heat, heat, and more heat!

It is frighteningly hot and they say tomorrow...well, today, will be worse....It is 1 am in the morning and still over 80 degrees....plus humidity that is appalling. Bad air. Difficulty breathing. Warnings about Old People and the Infirm, exeriting themselves....OY! And it is even beastly hot in my house with my two little air conditioners, which usually keep everything quite bearable.....but, not after days and days of this.....I am even using my electric fans and my little battery operated personal fans, too.... This heat is not fit for man nor beast....
Trying to keep it all in perspective, but.....
Going back to lying down and doing nothing....Have a Lovely Labor Day, all.....Hope it isn't as hot where you are....

More To Come......I hope......

This heat is just unbelievable. I do hope you're able to continue to stay as cool as possible and breathing easily. I just hope the power stays on, the a/c equipment doesn't break down with such a hard round the clock workout. This aft. at 2 p.m. in the shade, I couldn't believe the thermometer -- 110 degrees in the shade. Remember the days when we didn't have air conditioning? But then, I don't think the temps and humidity were as oppressive for so long either.

I hope it cools down for your soon and I'm glad you are taking it easy. Don't forget to keep your fluid levels up also.
It isn't very warm here and quite a breeze but at least there is some sunshine. We really are at the far ends of the spectrum:) I'll try to will a breeze your way.:)

I'm sorry to hear it's THAT hot, and the humidity is the worse part of it. I live in Miami, so I know what it's like, but we are spoiled with A/C. It's always freezing indoors and steamy outdoors.

The best thing to do is keep yourself hydrated and surrounded by your adoring "fans." : )

I do hope you are able to stay out of this heat. I know it can't be good for your lungs. I was happy to have it back down to 80 this weekend. We've been in the upper 90s so long it has been literally breath taking. I was happy to be able to work in my flowers and not melt during our yard sale.

I love that last cartoon! Doesn't that say it all?

I have passed on one of my 3 Nice Matters Award to you and I hope you will accept! I finally made my decisions and posted in today's post. You will be able to copy the icon and pass it to 3 others when you have the time.

Oh, how horrible, I didn't realise it was THAT hot in LA! 80F at 1am, that's unbearable. It's 28C (82C) here this morning, sunny with a nice breeze, and the occasional fluffy white cloud coasting by, and cooler at night, down to about 14C (57F). I have a spare bedroom if you want to come and stay for a few days!

It has ben a long, hot summer here!
I'm ready for some cooler days and nights!

Oh! I stay cool enough with the AC...but I look out the window and see the weeds taking over my gardens...Not good- but I don't have the energy and will to do much about it!

Glad you're managing to keep cool!

It's lovely in Ohio although that it's a bit cooler than usual makes me nervous that it might get cold and snowy early, too.

Your bromeliad looks beautiful! Hope you stay cool in the heat - you can always send some to the UK. We'vew had nothing but rain since Wimbledon! Came to visit and say thanks for popping in after you visted via Michele's!

I am keeping you in my thoughts...the heat has slacked off a bit here and it is actually comfortable (hope I just didn't hex myself!) Take care...

had this to say:

This is why we stayed in San Diego one more day. We were supposed to go home yesterday but I couldn't face going home to that heat. Not that it's been cool in SD at 95 degrees but that's better than 107 degrees! I sent my brother-in-law to go turn on my AC so it will be cool when we get home. I wasn't about to let that run for 7 days while we were on Vacation. Stay cool Naomi!

Monday, September 3, 2007 at 11:25:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Oh, Naomi, I hate the heat also and I can really sympathize with you! Our a/c went kafooey on Friday and it took till Sat. night to get the tech out here! HOT HOT HOT!
Please stay cool and I sure hope your heat wave breaks very soon for you!

Monday, September 3, 2007 at 11:27:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Stay hydrated ! I hope things cool down for you soon, still chilly enough here that we are having fires in the evenings.
The first spring flowers are out though, I have a big bunch of freesias on my table.

Hi, I really hope you get comfortable and stay well. It's 97 degrees here and the humidity is 49%.

Keep cool Naomi - and drink LOTS.

Monday, September 3, 2007 at 2:34:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

That sounds so uncomfortable. Be sure to try and stay as cool as possible and look after yourself!

I can only wonder how poor Sweetie is coping in his silky fur coat, poor dear!

I hope it becomes much more pleasant soon. Take it easy and do very little.

Some days are unbearable aren't they? I like heat if I can cool down. Thank goodness for our swimming pool and airconditioners (we have 4 in our small apartment!)...but I live in the tropics and I'm (slowly) still getting used to it. But I do love it. Just remember to keep your fluids up!

Monday, September 3, 2007 at 2:58:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

Try to stay cool Naomi. That heat is terrible. I know it's hot here too, temp not as high but humidity makes it so. I am staying inside! Maybe you need to have a swamp cooler instead of a/c's. Just stay in and I'll be thinking about you.

Monday, September 3, 2007 at 3:30:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

I remember how bad the heat can get there! You take care of yourself, drink lots of water and rest!

I'm sending you cool thoughts, Naomi.

Calling you is still the #1 item on my To Do list in my BlackBerry (yes, I worship at the idol of this tiny piece of technology, and it has never failed to guide me right.) I've been so swamped with life and work that I haven't had time for any fun stuff.

This week should be better. I worked part of the weekend to get ahead.

Folks! Never forget L.A. was a desert, and despite all the wasted water and dangerous chemicals we pour on trying to make it something "it ain't", it still IS a desert! Every so often, Mother nature reminds us of that.

Your cactus and succulent garden must please her greatly--perhaps she will figure out a way to keep your place ten degrees cooler (lol).

In the meantime, keep your cool, enjoy an icy drink, and give Sweetie a rubdown with an ice cube.

I just heard it yesterday speaking of our drought and heat.

This is what hell will be like for George W. Bush. Hotter and dryer than the weather in Brookville, Ohio.

had this to say:

We're having heat and drought out here, as well~ take care of yourself!
By the way, I love the photos of the Bromeliad! It hardly looks real! Like it was made of spun sugar or something sweetly edible!

had this to say:

Naomi I had to tell you I LOVED your comment about my raucous, spoiled rotten but much loved pet bird! You are a trip, dear lady! I am still chuckling at your words.

And I am still in awe of that Bromiliad you posted. It looks like a watercolor painting.

Stay cool. xoxoxo

had this to say:

Hi naomi! Sorry. I'm not good with heat and hate it! I'd rather have the cold as I could put on more, but heat...just impossible! Retreat to the Arctic?!

If your bromeliads look so beautiful, surely humans can too.

Wishing you cooler days ahead. Take care Naomi.

had this to say:

My mom has been in southern CA for the last week, and she said it was the most horrid, horrid heat she's ever felt in her life....so, I believe you! It's so miserable to be that hot, and feel trapped like the air is so heavy you can't even get a good breath. That's how Louisiana was for me....so humid, I felt every breath I took, and it felt like it was a total workout just to breath! Sit a rocking chair by the a/c and drink some tea....ICED, that is. I have a water bottle with a mini fan on it, and I use that alot to "mist" myself...it seems to help. Hang in there, I'm sending cool Montana vibes your way!!!!!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 8:24:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Hope you're staying not-too-hot! It's incredibly hot here too and I am soooo thankful for the a/c!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 8:44:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Dear Naomi, I am wishing you nice and cooler days ahead.

You did a very creative post to show to us that great heat!

Many hugs!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 9:25:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Your bromeliad photos were gorgeous. I had never seen one bloom before.

On the heat, I have another friend who lives in LA and he is also in misery. When Southern Californians say it's hot, it is really hot. Arizona is the same way this year-- hotter than it's been. When you add humidity, that really makes for misery. Take care of yourself and when I have been in those situations without a/c, I take lots of cool showers or baths.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 9:40:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Thanks my dear Naomi for your kind and nice greetings and words to Sofia's Birthday!

Many hugs to you and to Sweetie, too!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 10:35:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Come on over to Norway and cool down Naomi: today it was 65!

Btw: thanks for tagging me the other day. I didn't replay directly to your invitation, but I returned your favor:-)

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 11:44:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Yes, my dear friend, the CA temps have been ghastly!!
You are doing the wise thing by resting and not allowing the heat to overtake you. My heart goes out to those who do not have air conditioning.
We are finally getting some much needed rain. It has cooled down for us at last. We had nearly three weeks solid of very high temps, 100 & over. It's nice to have some relief.
I heard that your temps will cool down on Wed.
I surely hope so!!
Until then, curl up with Sweetie and RELAX.

Ohhhhhhhh NAOMI! Come BEAT the HEAT at my Birthday EXTRAVAGANZA!!! You just can NOT believe what my friends have DONE! Come see! Come see! Whooo! Excuse me... didn't mean to bump into ya! I'm just a weeeeee bit tipsy!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 2:55:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

Naomi,
please mail us tons of heat over here. Then we will be glad to return some cold air.
It's near freezing point at nights. Flowers are collapsing. Veggies die of the cold. I'm affraid our Tomatoes, Pepper and Grapes would not make it. We lit up in the fireplace every evening and the radiators are in use - to survive. This early - first week of September. This summer has shown no signs of global warming in this part of the world.

Relaxe and have lot's of ice-water

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 3:06:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

I visted San Diego 2 years ago and fell in love with the mild temps and low humidity...sounds like there's a change in the air right now! I loathe extreme heat and sympathize completely. Hope this week brings you (and your flowers) sweet breezes.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 4:15:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

It's been hot up here but not like you're getting south. Please, please don't over do it. Stay by the AC, drink lots of water. I hate to think of you feeling so miserable - I know how I get in the heat and it's not good.
Don't you wonder what they did in the days of heavy dresses with petticoats and layers...no electricity therefore no fans....and ice not readily available. I would never have made it.
Stay cool dear Naomi!
XOXO

It is unpleasantly hot and humid over here. And has been for the last month or so. Without air conditioning I'd be a mess.
My empathy Naoimi.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 6:48:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

Take care, Naomi. Don't go out in the garden in this heat, no matter how appealing it is. We have settled down a bit; it is in the low 90's now, except the high 90's and 100's. Isn't it too bad when you think low 90's is cool?!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 7:50:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

I truly thought of you when I heard what the temps were like in the Hollywood Hills.
Make sure you just keep drinking fluids, take lots of cool showers and lay low for a few days...

We had some incredibly humid days this summer. It's nice today ... 20C (so 70Fish), sunny and breezy. I'm ready for weather like this.

So sorry you have been dealing with the torrid temperatures there. I watched almost no TV while on vacation except for 2 enjoyable DVD films so I was unaware until I got home. I do hope real genuine relief is in store as I know it must be terribly hard on you.

Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 3:47:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

My condolences on the heat. I personally wilt whenever the temps rise above 75. My Scandinavian heritage imbued me with cold weather genes I'm afraid. I suffered horribly the 15 years I was economically imprisoned in the deep South. Keep your chin up, the good thing about weather is that eventually it changes!

Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 6:10:00 AM PDT

had this to say:

Oh you poor dear!! I hope it's better now. It's the same way here, hot and dry. We still have no rain!!!

It's even been too hot to be on here much. This weather just makes me more lethargic than usual!! :)

Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 6:56:00 PM PDT

had this to say:

This heat should make any excess weight melt away, shouldn't it? LOL
My poor kids, they live in Riverside & it was like 110 there AND their a/c was broken. My daughter called me up Monday crying.
Suddenly, 90 doesn't feel so bad!
You stay cool k?
