emmy viewing

I am still viewing DVD's, but I am gaining on the four category's that I signed up for. It is very interesting and also a big time commitment...but it is something I truly enjoy doing....

The first Category that I voted on was:

Outstanding Special Class Program...This is a new category this year and I think it certainly helps to have put these particular shows in one category....And in this particular case, there could be more than one winner---that is new, too. The shows are, in alphabetical order:

1) The 79th Annual Academy Awards
2) The 64th Golden Globe Awards
3) Prince-The Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show
4) Jerry Seinfeld: The Comedian Award
5) The 60th Annual Tony Awards (2006)
You are asked to say which of these shows deserves an Emmy...and you check 'yes' or 'no', and as I said, you could say YES to any or all of them, depending on how you felt after watching them. It doesn't matter if you watched them at the time they were broadcast, you must look at them again, or for the first time, as the case may be, and then vote. I found it really helpful to watch the ones I had seen before...And I had already seen four of the five shows nominated.....(After the Emmy's are over, I will share my vote(s) with you all.) You then sign an affidavit stating that you have watched ALL of the DVD's in that category and then mail in your voting sheet along with your signed affidavit. This category was am extremely time consuming one to watch...The Academy Awards alone, was a little over three hours of viewing....without commercials...(Thank God)...lol). I am finished with this one and I already mailed in my voting sheet and signed thingy, too....Your vote had to be in at the Accounting Offices by August 24th...not postmarked the 24th....but there, at their offices by that date....I have a bit more time with the three other categories, I'm happy to say.So, which of these above shows, (if you saw them), do you think deserves an Emmy? Do leave your answer in a comment......

More To Come.....

It must be very time consuming but how satisfying. I would love to have that privilege. I can't say anything about the shows as I don't know enough about them but I think Prince is phenomenal and he has had rave crits over here. Wish I'd seen him. Good luck with it Naomi, I hope you have time to rest.

Naomi, the only one of those I saw in full was the Oscars, and I really enjoyed it - but I have no idea what the criterion is for determining an Emmy winner.

You do all of that? It sounds like fun but also a lot of time committed.

I came to thank you for your visits to my blogs. I think you have been to them all now. Thanks.

I think Prince put on a good show. I liked the Academy Awards but I never look at it as a show that could get an award. I guess that means it should since they make it look like it look sort of high class and effortless.

I have to admit that I am not a fan of award shows, and very rarely watch them, and so the only show on your list that I have seen is the Prince Super Bowl half time show. But in my opinion it should not be in the same category as The Golden Globes or the Academy Awards. Quite a different type of entertainment.

I think it's funny how much you loathe 'awards', and yet here you are voting!! =) I haven't seen any of them except the Prince halftime show, and so I can't vote because i'm not educated enough. Ha, imagine that. I would love to be able to vote for something and have my vote actually matter....

I think I watched all but the Seinfeld one. The one that is most memorable to me, though was Prince's halftime show. I don't remember much about the others, but then again, as you say, they are verrrrry long, so it's hard to remember all the details! I don't know how I'd vote on it to be honest.

First things first:
I just received some delicious chocolate truffles from The Chocolate Garden. My hubby and I each ate one.
I relished each and every morsel!!!!!
THANKS SO MUCH for sending such a fine and tasty gift!!!!!!!!
The truffles arrived in person condition with the ice packs they used still cool. No melting of any kind.

You have so much viewing to do! Those awards shows alone are hours and hours. How fun it must be to watch them and know you get to vote on their merit. You get to help decide if they deserve an Emmy nod or not. I remember watching the Oscars and I thought Ellen DeGeneres did a really great job at hosting. The rest of the show didn't make a lasting impression, but she did.

Happy Viewing and Voting!

Well thanks for stopping at my bird blog. I am glad you got to see the grackle. I was adding some ten pictures when you were there. There is a beautiful picture of a young grackle in the pouring rain.

Thanks again.

well, we did always wonder who voted for some of the award winners... now we can blame you :) haha.

actually, the only one of these i saw was the prince halftime bit, and i am no prince fan. now Paul McCartney... he should have won the emmy for his halftime show. but thats just me.

got a neat picture up today of a hummingbird from my moms back yard, thought you might like it.

I've seen several of the shows you are voting on, so my pick would be between the Tony Awards which I thought was wonderful and the Oscars. Wasn't a fan of Princes Halftime show, thought it isn't award worthy to be honest. Didn't see Sienfeld show so I can't say on his.

Good luck with all your viewing my friend!!

Heck, I watch all the awards shows - a) to see all the cool dresses; b) to see actors that I like win, and c) just because they always run re-runs on all the other channels.

Have no idea what the criteria is - but I would have to go with the Tony Awards. I guess I forget how many "hollywood" people actually appear on Broadway...so, it is really a fun show to watch - plus the music and dancing...yea - it would have my vote...

I only saw the Oscars and the GG's out of the shows so I can't really give a fair answer but of the two I would go with the Oscars because I thought Ellen did a stand up job.

Good Thursday evening to you, Naomi.
That is a lot of viewing and voting work that you have to do, putting all that together !
I always love the Oscars, and it is the only one I ever watch. Tradition maybe. I feel like Hollywood takes it more seriously.

Hi there...what fun!!....I LOVED Prince's halftime show. The Golden Globes are my fav. because they seem to be much more spontaneous and laid back, and I thought the Academy Awards this year were a bit boring....I was disappointed in them, though I love Ellen.

So.....my vote?? Prince.

As we only got to see the Oscars over here, I would vote for that. I did enjoy the Oscars this year upon saying that. It's funny that award shows are being nominated for an award. *heehee*

Prince always sings his little heart out and makes it a point to make a show memorable with his own unique performances. I don't particulary like his music, but I find him to be an entertaining performer.

Oh My! That sounds like marathon length viewing to me! Phew, my eyes feel tired just thinking about it!

I'm afraid I couldn't comment on which of these deserve an award as I have not watched the shows (not completely). It does make sense to have an award for these ceremony type shows though as I know how much effort goe into putting these together. So it is right that this is recognised.

OMG... having to watch the award shows again would be torture! It's fun the first time, to see the fashions and wait for someone to say something rude, but I think that would be it for me. (I guess you don't have to watch again if you already saw it)

I loved Prince's halftime show and even blogged about it. ;)

Sorry I've been MIA this week... work gets in the way of real life sometimes.

Hi Naomi -- I too missed all of these this year -- with being out of the country for the superbowl I missed the halftime show, and for some reason I missed the oscars (actually, I think that I may have tuned in at the end for a couple of winners, but that was it).
But then again, none of these awards shows have held my attention over the past few years: I had great hopes for Jon Stewart a couple of years ago, and he disappointed. I think that we really need someone like Robin Williams to do it without a script: quick enough to be hilarious, and spontaneous enough to thrill!

This is SO exciting that you get to do this! I know you'll do a good job.
But I just have to say - an award for an "Awards show"? isn't that redundant?
They must be good though, because they are in good company. I loved Prince's performance at Superbowl, he is a class act and very professional and very entertaining.
And I also adore Jerry Seinfeld.

Hi Naomi,
This is such hard but fun work for you. I feel like I'm reading an inside scoop since you're in "the biz." I'm sorry I can't give you a show. I have rarely watched TV this past yr, and only sporadically, due to reasons I hope change.

I hope you read how much I enjoyed reading of yours and Jamie Dawn's visit. To hear you, brought tears to my green eyes, you compassionate and highly talented woman!
