a rose, some stones, a photo book

Here is a little video that has no real context, except.....except, it is about some of the beauty that I live with.....I share this with you all, hoping you too might see some of the beauty that I live with, in all these little seemingly unimportant things....And, on the surface, these are unimportant 'things'.....except.....except for the fact that they enrich my life by their very presence here in my home....they are 'the art' that trancends everything.....they are the 'art' that is needed as food for the soul....they are, each, in their own very special way, a little bit of the beauty that I live with and that feeds my soul just as fresh healthy food feeds my body......These things are sweet, like rich dark chocolate. These things are sweet, like a baby's breath or a baby's kiss, or a baby's soft soft lovely cheek.....These things are sweet, like honey. Like flowers. Like Cats. (Well one of these 'things' is a cat....) Like The Love Of Friends. Like Love, Itself, no matter where it comes from......I look at these things, and I feel surrounded by love!

Maybe you will too.......

video
I will, hopefully, try to do another little video so you can see how artfully put together this photo book is......Thank You Sooooo Very Much
Bob-Kat....
It really is one of the most original wonderful presents I have ever recieved......
More To Come.......

Lovely post. I like your cat on the cool hearth. Here in England the cats are looking for warm spots at the moment, with the frosty weather.

That book from Bob-kat is fabulous, too.

By the way, you were right to comment that I hadn't included any proper Bafta pictures for this Sunday. I did a few last weekend, but i've just added a small set here to give a flavour!

That was such a nice gift. Bobcat had to put a lot of time and effort into that if she took 60 pictures off your blog! What a sweet thing to do. Your home is so lovely and filled with so many pretty things.
And it is always fun to see Sweetie, you can tell he knows you are talking to him by that tail flipping!

That is a lovely video Naomi...those stones are so nice.

by the way, I had dinner with Dickie and his some Jimmy on Wednesday in San Diego. I told him about you and of course he knows you, and mentioned how friendly you are with Joyce. He had such nice things to say about you!

Indeed that is a truly lovely book of pictures from your garden, how thoughtful! I love the pebbles, and also the plate that holds them. How appropriate that the words are carved in stone, as they are principles that we should live by... kindness, love, wisdom, harmony. And that ball of white fluff... a true Sweetie!
Nice video and I'm looking forward to more!

I am so very happy that you like the little book so much and that it brings you ahppiness. As I said to you, I enjoyed making it so much as your garden is just such a delightful subject. It contains so much beauty adn you take so many great photo's that the difficult thing was choosing which ones to put into the book! LOL!

I am so very flattered for the special mention you have given me here. To be mentioned in a video that also conatins the beauftiful Sweetie! I wonder if he thinks he is camouflaged behind on that white hearth LOl!

I loved your little stones too. I would have them in a bowl in my table too and I just know I would be play with them so much. They look so smooth and tactile. i would choose the words that had most menaing to me at the time and place them in relationships to each other :)

I will email you soon. I just need to get the next week or two out of the way and then I can arrange the extra copies you requested :)

Sweetie's tail rose to the occasion as soon as you mentioned him! Funny how animals come to attention that way.

Love the stones - what a wonderful idea! Your home is beautiful (I esp love the paintings over the fireplace and beside it).

Thanks for sharing the beauty that surrounds you, Anne

Naomi's Garden is truly a unique and special gift. Bobcat sure did a GREAT thing for you!! How neat that a blog buddy of yours all the way over in England has seen your garden through the photos on your blog, then was inspired to create a book for you. That is just terrific!
Those stones are lovely. Each of those words has a powerful life message.
Sweetie looked mighty comfy all sprawled out on the hearth. I don't think he has many worries throughout his day. He's got a pretty good life there on the hill with you.

The stones are beautiful, relaxing and inspirational, too. I love the pretty rose on the side. It doesn't even look dry from this end! Maybe it's all the positive energy it's picking up from those rocks.

I'd like to see more of the book sometime. I look forward to it.

I enjoyed your video so much, Naomi. One can tell that you're a "theater person." The way you speak so naturally explaining things, it made me feel like I was standing right there behind you in your living room.
I loved the stones and the book is very unique. What a great gift! I had to chuckle at Sweetie Pie....he's being filmed and yet, he's SO unassuming. Typical cat...lol

How wonderful of B-K sending (& making!) that book for you. She's so lovely and thoughtful isn't she? I'm hoping to meet her when we go over to London in a couple of months time...

I love river rocks. I can almost feel the texture of them. A friend gave me a bigger one with the words rose garden on it when I was in the hospital once. It always feels good to touch or run my fingers in the creases of the letters.

Your home looks lovely and that book is a precious gift. It looks like a regular book. Some friends of mine went to Thailand this year and one of them made a book like that for a gift for the other. It even has a dust jacket. It makes a fantastic book. I could see yours, with some words added potentially as a published book. The photos you take are of that level

Oh that is such a well thought gift to have given you! How sweet she is, that bobkat!...As for the stones, I love those...I found a few of those a few yrs ago. Which in turn gave me an idea. I tryed to buy a bunch just like that in bulk for my idea but they were too expensive..so with the same idea in mind, I got some different coloured glass like stones..to put in a pretty little container, we used as our wedding favors less then 2 yrs ago...but with the container, we made a small booklet that detailed a message about each stone..both in french and english..As we wanted these wish stones to be a special gift of love from us on our special day , yada yada...We made the booklets with parchment type paper, and I ripped the edges to look rough, and even dipped them in tea to stain, and tied the pages together with a rope bow lol, to make them look old. The stones were put in a small varnished box, that was encased in a chinese silk drawsting bag, all of which can be reused for something else. My husband and I had so much fun putting it all together. All derived by those very wish/thought stones you have. In my flickr account ..I believe in the wedding folder, there are pics of our wedding favors....each step in opening them , if u ever want to take a look lol.

I just love those stones too. My kids got me one - "happiness." My son also gave me a "worry" stone that he found and polished in a tumble. I'll have to film it because I can't quite describe its shape, but it's thick on one side with a groove running in a curve to a thinner side. It is so relaxing to rub my thumb over this stone. It reminds me of those squeeze balls people have to de-stress themselves, only I have a worry stone instead. It's always, cool, smooth and graceful in its curves. It's also a pretty shade of cranberry and brown. When I get time I'll get a post up about it. I really love this post. There are lots of little things in my world that are so simple, yet bring me great joy. I need to re-focus on such things. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a fabulous present! And it saves you the trouble of making one on Shutterfly, lol.

I love those stones, Naomi. If you came to our home, you would see little signs and messages and things like that all over. I think they're great for anchoring the things we try to focus on.

I'm all veklempt after watching your video. I had visited earlier this morning and it wouldn't work for me......so I waited until this afternoon to see if it would again.

That IS the most fabulous and thoughtful gift ever.

When I read your words and saw the plate of stones this morning the one that jumped out at me was harmony.... I ended up using the word in the title of my latest post because it stayed with me all day!
Last summer, I ran a workshop/orientation day for a group of university students who were about to spend their summers with kids who lived in public housing. Most of them were absolutely GREEN, coming from other more enriched worlds. As an icebreaker, I had bought a bag of stones at the dollar store and wrote different words (like the ones on your stones) on them. I put them in a sand pail and asked them to take one out, read the word and talk about the first thing that came to mind.....linking the word to the kids they would be working with for the summer. It was one of those little brainstorm ideas that worked beyond my expectations. They shared deeply and learned from one another in a way that was absolutely beautiful. There were laughs and tears in that classroom.....even from a couple of guest speakers who had just joined us for a short presentation!! They all kept their stone.....I told them to keep it in their shorts pocket for the summer. :)
Since then, I have done it again, but this time at a family/friends potluck we had last fall. It was a huge hit!

Also, since then my 10 year old son asked me if he could have some of his own stones with words on them.....I found some like yours and gave them to him for Valentines Day. He has been carting them around in his school book bag ever since.

I noticed that "risk" and "dream" were on the stones too....I think we need to do a little of both to stay alive.....I like your stones too Naomi. Where did you get them?

Looks like Bob-kat did a good job putting that book together, I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for visiting Sacred Ordinary a few days ago via Kay Dennison. I couldn't get the video to play for some whacky reason, but I am on a Mac G5. Usually I have no problems. I'll try it on a PC.

So, you are an artist in L.A. I hail from Redondo Beach, by the way, and work in Palos Verdes at Chadwick School. Put me on a list if you have work up in a gallery locally.

Are you on the Art Gang L.A. listserv? It tells about all kinds of things arty going on around the city.

Nice visiting you.

BobCat was very thoughtful. What an awesome idea. I keep thinking that I will eventually do that with my two bums. I had so many pictures and such of Mr. Fennie, it's time to start doing that for the other two men in my life. Mr. Chatty can look at it too if he wishes!
