green in winter

Here is a lot of lushness as we pass into the second third of December, if that makes any sense...All this is by way of saying, here is some full bloom greenery for all of you now fighting the snow and the cold.....And as always, I love to show more than one view of the same plants....So, below, another slightly different angle of pretty much the same group of plants...... We are getting in closer on these tiny fruits...those little red things atop that Euphorbia.....And that Kalenchoe in the foreground...those beautiful curved leaves....once again, living sculpture! And bam! A little bit closer....those fruits are edible, though I personally don't find them very appetizing...Not like some of the Cereus Fruits! But they sure are pretty to look at! And they have lots of teeny tiny seeds inside..... Bam, Bam Bam! There they are in close-up! So very very pretty....as is the plant they come from....And these were yellow flowers, before they became red fruit....Fantastic 'Nature', once again! Here below, a different Euphorbia...a very very different Euphorbia.... I think it is quite fabulous looking with it's long rather lethal looking stickers....And below is another view of the same plant.... A slightly different angle of the same rather delicate plant. Yes, it is quite delicate....I have it sitting in a pot because it would not survive in the ground..... And this one just a slightly different view.....And then just so you can see the whole plant in it's home, here below is this last picture of this fantastic Euphorbia..... It sits on a stone step which is on the side of my house, an the way down to the garden below....It is not a very big plant, as you can see from this picture above.... This lovely Cycad above is just so incredibly lush...! And as you can see, there is all this new growth going on right in the middle....These are the new leaves which come every year....This is a spectacular plant! Here above, another Euphorbia...this one with it's little yellow flowers...I love this photograph because you can see that there are all those other fabulous plants of different shapes and with different sculptural looks.....And below...one more view of this very beautiful Euphorbia......I love this shot!Oh yes, there will be.......

More To Come.......

I love these cacti! They're gorgeous!

Good that the cold weather does not affect them.

Just when I think I've seen it all in your garden, you post more exotics. I guess because they are always changing.

What fragile beauty are those prickly thorns protecting?

Good Monday morning Naomi ! How did you sleep ?

Hope that you have a really good day today - it is so sunny (even though it is s cold this morning !) and clear, the view must be excellent !

There is such amazing variety in your garden. Obviously you love your succulentls, and they bloom profusely for you, basking in the attention you give them :)

Do you do it yourself, and/or do you have an excellent gardener you have had for years to help you with all this ?

Either way, clearly all the plants are beautifully taken care of - and it shows !

I'm always getting scarred by rose thorns etc in the garden and wonder if you manage to avoid those spikes?
I hope so:)

So green, and tropical... I can feel the sunshine! But rather spiky, I wouldn't want to fall into a garden full of those beautiful plants!

One wonders if anyone looks as closely at the sculpture of nature's array of plant-life the way the lens of your camera sees them. Rhank you for showing us what we probably might never have seen through the same eyes.

Your photograps are beautiful, much more impressive than what I saw at the art show over the weekend.

Thanks for sharing more of your view from the hills, Naomi.

It's still hard for me to equate winter with green, being a Canadian lol...One yr I was in AZ and Mexico during the xmas season...I remember being in awe of the weather, oranges on the trees, walking around in shorts...I just posted a pic in blog today of the snow we got this week, in one day ..LOL What a contrast to your pics !!!

Naomi, I love your gardening posts. For one thing you have fabulous gardens with really interesting plants, but more than that I think it's the passion and evident joy that it brings you that you transmit when you write your comments and show your plants from all their best angles. Thank you for sharing that.

Always attractive photos and intriguing plants. The needles or stickers are really vicious looking up close. Sounds like you've tried most, if not all, the cacti fruit in your garden. You must have really studied all these plants. Don't know how you can keep track of them all.

With all the Bam Bam Bams going on in this post, I thought I'd accidentally gone on to Emeril's blog.
:-)

Luckily, we are not having any of those awful ice storms like they are having in MO and other states.
My hubby's family are all in the St. Louis area.
They are dealing with the ice.
It's pretty, but it's very dangerous.

Your cacti really are natural sculptures.
It would be hard for an artist to top the beauty that's in your garden!!

What an amazing plant, that Euphorbia! I've never seen one in real life. I particularly like your gorgeous closeup shot of it, 2nd one in the series of green, but it's hard to choose a favorite. Your photos are a treat.

(Sigh, I agree about your observations regarding the mansion being built near you. Those animals and nature being displaced is so sad.)

Hope the shredding goes smoothly and leaves you feeling much lighter very soon.
