This "Old man cactus" is new to me. Never seen one before but what a beautiful thing in bloom! So many times bees don't look like the famed "bumble bees" but these do and the thing that strikes me is the old saying that goes with them "busy as a bee"....hmmm maybe it's the honey that makes the difference:)
Good Monday morning to you, Naomi !
Your post desreved the perfect award from Mamacita - it was a very loving gesture on your part...
And the bees cannot help but be 'frequent fliers' in your garden !
They clearly love the plants you have - and you love watching them - seeing them do their joyful eating - it is a mutual appreciation society !
Loving Annie
Aww, Naomi, congrats on your award. you're very deserving, I'm sure it was tough to pick one post to nominate, since they're all perfect! :)
I love the bees and the penis flowers. Hehe. They're so beautiful.
Congrats on that well-deserved and meaningful award!!
Your pictures are - as always- magnificent!
Dear Naomi,CONGRATULATIONS on your Perfect Post Award! You deserved all awards of the World! It's great that the Award was for "Spoon River"!
The bees and the plants are wonderful, Naomi! All those photos are stunning!
And last but not least, thank you for your kind words on my post! Have a nice week ahead!
Congratulations on receiving your Award, you definitely deserve it! But I agree, sometimes these "Awards" are given out just for the sake of giving an award.... but not this one!
The bees are delightful, and I am fascinated with the Old Man Cactus and it's unusual flowers. Is this a rare plant or can they be seen in many gardens in your neighbourhood?
We have just returned from a month lounging on the beach in Florida, had a wonderful time, but now we are home in S Ontario Canada and it's snowy, windy, icy, and COLD! I should have stayed under that palm tree I think! I have blog-posted pictures of our time on the beach, and some of the wonderful wildlife that can be seen in the area.
Congratulations! You are very deserving..I went over and read her nice post about you. She seems very sweet herself.
Your bees are fascinating and the pictures are technically spot on! Well done!
It just amazes me how you capture them! And their busy little wings in motion! Beautiful work Naomi!
Congratulations, Naomi, that post was indeed deserving of an award, and coming from Mamacita makes it very special!
Love those bees!
Thanks for the visit, Naomi, and for your concern. Yes, I worked 42hours in 8 days, which is a lot when you consider that most of that 42 was on my feet! I stayed in bed most of Sunday and today I had to wear a heat pack on my back, but it is better. I don't work again doing Christmas decor until Wednesday and Thursday, and perhaps part of Fri. I might have some more work, but it won't be too stressful.
We will not do much decorating here this year, since mr. kenju is unable to help me get stuff down from the attic, we will probably just set the pre-lit tree up and I'll put some bows on it, but nothing else. We won't have company during the holidays (that we know of) so it will have to suffice.
A fabulous award to a wonderful person. Congrat, Naomi.
I keep exhausting my adjectives over your amazing photos. Breathtaking! Those cacti crack me up...they look a little, well, phallic somehow. Funny! Perhaps that is why the bees like them...
You deserved the award that was a fabulous post.
Todays one is another beeutiful effort as well, heh.
Congratulations on your award. I, too, especially liked that post as I had wanted to hear more about the show and your memories.
Fascinating pictures of the bees harvesting pollen. You do take such excellent photos.
Did you happen to see the article in the L.A. Times some weeks ago describing small yellow mustard-like spots some people were noticing on their cars? The article caught my eye because my car has had those little round yellow spots every day for the longest time and I couldn't figure out what they were. Seems they're "bee poop." Who knew! I did a Google Search and here's just one site with a picture:
http://starbulletin.com/96/07/29/features/stuffs.html
I then noticed lots of bees hovering around large plants close to my car. I now park my car elsewhere and no more "you know what!" This was all news to me.
I've never seen this kind of cactus. What a beauty! I don't know which is prettier, the flower or the bee. Before your photos, I didn't consider bees pretty at all. Thanks to opening us up to a whole new world, Naomi. You deserve many awards.
Hi Naomi! Wow! Congrats on award. Love...love...love the lovely 'old man cactus' flowers and the bees. I'm smiling from ear to ear! Thank you.
Coming here with a bag over my head....as I have no Google/Blogger acct. so have to be "anonymous" but you know who I am, Naomi.
Just wanted to say congrats on your award. How nice and I loved that post too.

congratulations Naomi!.. the award goes without saying.. you ALWAYS write posts that touch others!! (this one is no exception!)
I always love looking at photos of your garden creatures!
Congrats on the Award :)
Well let me say wholeheartedly that if anyone deserves such an award it is YOU!! Your posts are always wonderful, so informative, well written, and wonderful photos as well.
Just like this post with these lovely plants and the bees enjoying the feast that your garden gives to them!! They are so busy and they have the perfect garden to be busy in!!
Ain't life erotic! I mean I find the photos so passionately stimulating and exciting.
Congrats on the well deserved recognition for the Spoon River post, Naomi.
Wow, I have never seen such a cactus! How cool does that thing look!..The bees look awesome fluttering around that thing, and as u say, they seem to just love it! Your photos as usual are just amazing.
You are certainly deserving of such an award Naomi...Bravo to Mamacita for giving it to you...how touching and special. I am off to read her tribute to you on her blog also!
That old man sure has LOTS of penises!!
:-)
You captured some remarkable photos. I love the look of their wings stopped mid-flight.
Bees, like hummingbirds, NEVER stay still. Bees will land though and sit a moment sometimes, but hummingbirds... forget it!!
I saw one of the movies you recommended awhile back when you were viewing DVD's for the Emmys.
I can't remember the name of it, but it has a British male star, but I can't remember his name either. He was working on behalf of a woman convicted of murdering a child. He's a great actor, but his name escapes me. Oh well... I'm tired, and it's only 8 p.m. I enjoyed his performance a lot.
Congratulations for that wonderful award! You certainly deserve it! Those pictures are so wonderful and fully detailed. It reminds me of those picture on those encyclopedia books that I read when I was young. Fascinating indeed!
Hello...how are you doing, Naomi?
Sorry I haven't been a faithful reader/blogger this fall/winter.
It has been a crazy year for us....hope I can get back into the swing of things soon.
Hope you are well.
Kendra
Naomi, I have never seen a cactus like that before, it is very unusual. It must have some pretty strong nector for the bees to keep coming back to it.
Congratulations Naomi and I'm glad you accepted it. No-one deserves it more.
I can just imagine the bees in their hive saying,
'What say we go round to Naomi's? It's quiet and peaceful and there's loads to eat. We may even get out pictures taken.
Just don't mention penusses to me . Every day I get spam telling me how to enlarge it and I feel the need to disnfect my computer. Such a pain!
WOW... your photos always blow me away.
And of course I understand you voting for Sweetie... if I could vote twice I'd cast one for her too...
Naomi, tell me about your camera--you get incredible shots--long lens?? Bud
i love what bees do, almost enough to set up a hive... almost
Happy Wednesday to you, Naomi ! How are you doing on this glorious sunny afternoon ?
I'm cutting all of my roses back - it may be a bit early, but...
the bees will be buzzing around them come springtime !
Hope all is well with you,
Loving Annie
Hi Naomi-- I work at The French Manor, which was originally Huckleberry Hill Farm, constructed by your father. I'm not sure if you are aware of the fact that the building is still here, or that it is now an extremely successful bed and breakfast. A few employees and I were doing some research on the building, and we came across your blog. We are fascinated by your pictures and descriptions of your time here on the farm. I was wondering if there are any other pictures or information you would be willing to share with us. The email address here is info@thefrenchmanor.com, and we would be thrilled with anything you might be able to tell us. Thanks so much!
Congrats on an award truly earned. Honestly, i dont award folks, i probably dont have enough readers to award anyone anything so as anyone else would notice, but i have often been moved by things you wrote, so i totally understand and agree with you receiveing an award for the excellent things you share.
Thank you for your concern over our storm. The flooding in some places is down right awful. we were so fortunate, i think we live in the only town in the north western section of the state who didnt see severe effects from the wind rain and flooding. we got lucky!
and, we have been painting again! go see Indy's great paintings. i am almost envious of my toddlers artistic ways. it appears t ohave skipped a gereation... the talent going straight from my mother to my youger son.
Congrats!
The bees seem very happy about it :)
Oh, I love the pink dangly flowers and bees. What great photos, Naomi!
Congrats on the perfect post award. I thoroughly enjoyed that post. :)

Mamacita has excellent taste. Then again, I think all of your blog entries deserve to be recognized as perfect posts, Naomi.
These bees will inspire me the next time I pick my camera up and look for something unique to capture.
