This is a beautiful film. A "Special" picture, in every way....It is about survival, and love and belief in a higher power, and, it's about struggle--against all odds, too....and, believe it or not, it is quite funny, as well.
I was not familiar with the book so this film is my only knowledge of this truly wonderful story.....
Ang Lee directed this lovely inspiring film, and it is a real gem!I would say....do not walk to your nearest theatre---Run, to your nearest theatre----this film is not to be missed.
There is a reason that this film received 11 nominations from the Academy. And it deserves every one of them. Each branch of the Academy votes on their peer group....Writers for writing; Directors for directing, Editors for editing, and so on and so forth...the largest number of members are the Actors group and they vote on all the acting categories....then, the entire Academy Membership votes on Best Picture.
Frankly, I don't understand the vote counting process at all---and though I have read the explanation a number of times over these last few years, is sounds like Higher Calculus in Chinese, to me.....I am not a film Academy member, so it doesn't effect me and my voting in SAG.
What I do know is---IF I were able to vote for BEST PICTURE, "Life Of Pi" would be my choice. Nothing against the other eight Best Picture nominees, All of them are worthy---some more than others. For me, this is The One!
I've never seen another film like it, ever, ever.
I watched it twice.
I could watch it again, right now!
More To Come
Note: All that I am writing about involving the films I've seen over these last weeks is just my personal subjective opinion---yes, some of my opinions are based in experience and knowledge from working in the Theatre and Television as a writer, composer and actress, etc., etc., for over 60 years, but still it is a subjective opinion. And so other people may feel otherwise andI respect that! So, there you have it, my dears! Other reviews will follow....
I will be writing about all the films I have been watching, after Sunday....I just didn't want you to think I disappeared......There have been some major problems accessing films through the Internet for the SAG Voting....(It just about drove us ALL nuts....) and only yesterday was I able to upload three films that I had not seen yet...It was a problem with iTunes.....
At this point, it is almost too late---the Votes for SAG have to be in by Noon, Friday, January 25th....
Still...there were three performance that I had not seen and felt I should try my best to see them.....
This is a very interesting year where the Oscars are concerned. Some very diversified films---(some with 'problems')....But, all very interesting.
The Oscars are voted on by 'Artists' working in The Film Industry....And there are somewhere around 6000 Academy voters.
As to The Golden Globes, only about 90 people vote on those films and they are ALL journalists. So, are the Golden Globes a good prediction for the Oscars? Not necessarily.....
And with SAG, it is mostly Actors voting for other Actors---a whole other ballgame, though now that we are SAG-AFTRA, there are many other industry people besides just Actors.
I'll be back with my opinions about all the films I have seen, (24-25) after Sunday...And there are some truly very special films.....
I thank all of you for your very helpful comments.
As you can see, I am able to upload images now.....
AND, I have a 'newish' computer. (Too long to explain here, but suffice it to say, it is exactly what I needed...)
The picture problem is in Blogger...and a number of you dear commenter's left me some VERY helpful hints....
And, incidentally, I absolutely needed a new computer, because of numerous other problems---Replacing my old computer is something I have known I needed to do, for a very long time....
So.....it is a Win/Win for me, at the moment......
Incidentally, these pictures are of the Island of Catalina.....The day I took these, it was breathtaking and astounding how very clear it was.....Plus, I loved that as I looked closer, it all looked like it had been painted--the Island, the clouds, the air, the ocean---all of it....
Painted.......!
Catalina is very very far away from me....but, as the saying goes in the Real Estate game....
"On A Clear Day, You Can See Catalina..."
Indeed, you can!!!
I will get around to catching up on all your blogs, as soon as I can---I'm watching as many films as I can with the SAG Awards coming up---we are on deadline to vote.....
My feelings about all of these films will appear here, soon......
And, again, I thank you all for the wonderful help! All of you out there in the World-Of-Blog----You are truly fabulous!
Something has changed with Blogger since last I posted...When I go to "Insert Image", the word BROWSE isn't there and there is no other option that is right for me....
So.....
No Pictures!!!!
Can anyone help me??
Lord, I am tired of problems....Truly!
I WAS going to write about the fact that my Computer is having major problems! I have had trouble with just about Everything. My computer is old and very tired, it seems. So...it is time for a NEW Computer......
I have no idea when I will be able to visit again, but will do the best I can, given the limitations......And if Blogger doesn't straighten up where posting photographs are concerned....this may be my Swan Song.....
Forgive me for not visiting....I just have been consumed with people being here to help with ALL the computer related problems and it has worn me out....!
2013 Is Here! This song is so Happy and full of Hope....Wishing everyone a year filled with both Great Happiness and Incredible amounts of Hope.
New Years Eve was special and I took lots of pictures....But, I cannot download them. My HOPE is that my new computer guy can figure out why---and correct this, very very soon! Till Then......
