I have always thought the shape of Date Palms was just beautiful, beyond words....I actually love most Palms....And I have some other types of Palms in the garden...A King Palm, A Queen Palm, and some smaller 'Volunteer' Date Palms....But this one I am posting about today has these very beautiful seed pods happening right now.....
They are a bright bright orange and they are on this Palm in abundance, at the moment....! There is something about the graceful yet strong shape of the Fronds on this Palm, too....And the many kinds of shadows cast by these Fronds when it is windy and when the sun is hitting them in just the right way....
A closer look at a shadow design created by the sun hitting the leaves in a certain way......
Right there a little left of center...That design, created by the sun streaming through the leaves....! Gorgeous! All very sculptural to me.....The green of these fronds is so deep and rich......and the contrast, at the moment, of the orange of the seed pods and the green of the leaves on the fronds....well, it just takes your breath away, as you will see as we go along here.
As we get in closer and closer the contrast becomes clearer and clearer......
And in a bit closer, yet again......
And closer, yet again and again.....
And more of these amazing little orange pods.....
And because I think each of these pictures is unique...And I am an excessive person anyway.....Here are some more....!
Does anyone else find these as fascinating and beautiful as me? LOL...Well, I'm posting more anyway.....Cause I just think these look good enough to eat....!
And the birds think so too! These darling little orange seed pods seem to be quite yummy to the birds, making them a perfect food for the many dear species that visit my garden....
I just cannot get over how full and lush these hanging seed pods are this year....They have been on this Palm each year for the last five or so years....but this year, well.....this year is fuller than ever, and I just love it!
And yes....here a few more pictures of this wonderful Spring happening....
I love how the leaves are just there with these gorgeous pods behind them....the color contrasts here are just so very beautiful...!
See...I'd like to just take a handful of these and eat them like grapes! I have no idea what these actually might taste like---Hmmmm....maybe I need to try them out! Maybe they are as good as grapes, and I just don't know it, you know?
Well....I have got to get Joe over here so we can go down into the garden again, and I will pick off some of these seeds---if I can reach them----And just see what they actually taste like.....At this point I had a little short video to show you of this lovely Palm swaying in the breeze.....But blogger is kind of constipated today and would not let me upload it---And I tried, five times....Given bloggers problems today, I hope and pray this post will publish.....More To Come.......

Lovely pictures especially the way it zooms in towards the date seeds.
It reminds me of the deserts of the middle east actually. When I've worked there, the locals would find the loveliest dates which were quite different from the majority of the ones that made it back to the UK.
We'd sometimes sit in a meeting and eat a few, with some eggcup sized cups of arabic coffee.

I love the sussuration of the wind through the palms....we holidayed in Tunisia for many years and there was nothing so relaxing as the sound of the wind blowing through the the palms, making a whispering, rustling sound......
I was intrigued by the answer of your photo game - that was a fun thing to see. With your photographic skills, you should do that more often!

Years ago, when I was backpacking in the Middle East, I visited the Israeli town of En Gedi near the Dead Sea, and sat under date palms from which the Bible said the best dates come.

Post as many photos as you like Naomi as they are all wonderful! I love how Palms look too, exactly like a huge green firework and their fronds cascade like a leafy waterfall! Y'know i love the contratsing colours and shapes with those fronds and seedpods. Ther fronds are all straight and 'sharp' looking while the pods are rounded. I don't see how an artist could improve on it!

Oh, I'm so glad you posted those pictures. I love palms and love to see them in pictures. We have one planted right beside our house like the one you are showing. It must be 38 years old because I think it might have been planted when the house was built. The lady we bought our house from said she would not sell it to someone who said they were going to cut it down. And she did ask me if I thought we would ever cut it. I said no. My husband hates cleaning up after it, but it is so beautiful, I just keep telling him to get out there and sweep up that mess it makes!

Here in Tennessee (and Virginia, where Colleen lives), the redbud trees are blooming all over the place. I drove up through East Tennessee a couple of times last week...

so I saw hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of redbud trees blooming on the hillsides along the roads. They seem to be either more beautiful or in more abundance this year. They aren't always as full as the one in Deana's photo.

I enjoyed your photos of date palms and hawks and doves, but it was last week's post about signs on buildings that provided my answer ... you had written "here in Los Angeles." A few years ago, I visited my favorite nursery an my plant friend who worked there. As we walked around, he would always take the time to educate me on the various plants. We passed a palm tree and he grabbed some of the seeds from it and ate them. Just like that. I ended up buying a baby of that palm tree and can't wait to taste the dates when it matures.
