More To Come.......
Lovely pictures especially the way it zooms in towards the date seeds.
It reminds me of the deserts of the middle east actually. When I've worked there, the locals would find the loveliest dates which were quite different from the majority of the ones that made it back to the UK.
We'd sometimes sit in a meeting and eat a few, with some eggcup sized cups of arabic coffee.
Here today on my magic carpet from Michele's- Marhaba!

I love the way that palm fronds look, Naomi. I don't recall seeing any pictures of your palm trees before. I really like these pictures you have here. I'm so glad you have a digital camera! :-)
Michele sent me over to admire your seed pods. Mmmmm. Nice.
I always find my strolls through your garden both fun and educational. Thanks for the beautiful tours of your garden;)
I love the sussuration of the wind through the palms....we holidayed in Tunisia for many years and there was nothing so relaxing as the sound of the wind blowing through the the palms, making a whispering, rustling sound......
I was intrigued by the answer of your photo game - that was a fun thing to see. With your photographic skills, you should do that more often!

You make our Florida palms look like weeds. You took some beautiful close ups of the seed pods. I'm beginning to wonder just how big your yard is. Seriously. It's a wonderland.
I love date palms too, Naomi, but I have never seen the seed pods. I love the orange against the various greens. Exquisite!
I don't think we have begun to see even a corner of your vast garden! What a beautiful closeup look at the fronds.
As usual, your pictures do not disappoint. Very lovely.

Very interesting pictures Naomi! I love the shadows that they make! They sure do have an abundance of those seeds!! Wow!
I had to laugh when you said blogger was constipated!!!
most certainly you are allowed to be extravagant in your posting of pictures and the joyful words that make us love you and your blog all the more.
Now I just want some dates, but not til they are ripe.
Years ago, when I was backpacking in the Middle East, I visited the Israeli town of En Gedi near the Dead Sea, and sat under date palms from which the Bible said the best dates come.
Thanks for bringing back that memory.
Cheers.
Post as many photos as you like Naomi as they are all wonderful! I love how Palms look too, exactly like a huge green firework and their fronds cascade like a leafy waterfall! Y'know i love the contratsing colours and shapes with those fronds and seedpods. Ther fronds are all straight and 'sharp' looking while the pods are rounded. I don't see how an artist could improve on it!
Hey, Naomi! Your post made me curious, so I did some google searching. If you go about halfway down this page, you'll find some seed pods that look like yours -- and info on their edibility. (If that's a word!)

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've been reading, even though I haven't been posting.
Go on post them - you know I love to see them too - wonder how the fruits taste like though.
Thanks for sharing Naomi - you know for a Norwegian, this is so exotic and it more than 10 years ago (when I was in Malaysia and Australia) since I saw palm trees!
Wishing you a great end to your week dear :-)
Yes, and pretty please let us know how they taste. They look scrumptious!
What fascinating pictures of your date palms, I haven't seen palms of any kind in many years, since I last went to Myrtle Beach SC would be the last time.
Michele sent me to consider whether those seeds are edible or not.
Amazing pictures. I love palm trees so much......these are gorgeous.
Palm trees - how pretty...
They do remind me of the trees in Florida...I grew up seeing so many palm trees...
you are doubly blessed.
to have such a place
and to love it so
here from michele's merry go round
I must admit that I despise palm trees. They symbolize Florida to me and I'm not too fond of the place. But your pictures are very nice!
Our climate is too cold for such plants.
Oh, I'm so glad you posted those pictures. I love palms and love to see them in pictures. We have one planted right beside our house like the one you are showing. It must be 38 years old because I think it might have been planted when the house was built. The lady we bought our house from said she would not sell it to someone who said they were going to cut it down. And she did ask me if I thought we would ever cut it. I said no. My husband hates cleaning up after it, but it is so beautiful, I just keep telling him to get out there and sweep up that mess it makes!
Naomi, LOVE palm tree! They are so beautiful and remember me a tropical country. I have one palm tree in my garden and many toucans loves to eat its seeds. Your photos are gorgeous, too!
I hope you have a nice Sunday!
A big hug to you and to Sweetie, too!
I always feel happy after viewing your photos, and yes, looks good enough to eat!
There is nothing like palms blowing in the warm air to make you feel at ease. You're lucky to be able to LIVE with those nice palms. The contrasting colors were stunning...do the date palms ever produce any fruit (dates) that you actually eat?
Naomi, those Palm trees are so beautiful. I love most, although Queen Palms always look a bit scruffy to me.
I love dates btw...we grow tons of them here in the Coachella valley!
I regularly see your comments on Colleen's Loose Leaf Notes blog, but what brought me here to find out where you live was your comment on Deana's blog:
"That red bud tree is absolutely gorgeous...I am unfamiliar with that tree---I must Google it!"
Here in Tennessee (and Virginia, where Colleen lives), the redbud trees are blooming all over the place. I drove up through East Tennessee a couple of times last week...
(1) to meet novelist Masha Hamilton
http://bonniesbooks.blogspot.com/2008/04/wednesday-i-met-author.html
(2) and to hear theologian John Dominic Crossan
http://bonniesbooks.blogspot.com/2008/04/saturday-i-met-another-author.html
so I saw hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of redbud trees blooming on the hillsides along the roads. They seem to be either more beautiful or in more abundance this year. They aren't always as full as the one in Deana's photo.
Anyway, just had to come see ... and seeing photos of palm trees I figured you must be in Florida or California. I enjoyed your photos of date palms and hawks and doves, but it was last week's post about signs on buildings that provided my answer ... you had written "here in Los Angeles." Yup, you're a long way from Chattanooga.
Before you try eating those orange pods, go online and make sure they are not poisonous!!
They sure are pretty, especially in contrast with the green.
You saying that Blogger is "constipated" made me really chuckle. What a great way to put it.
Blogger needs some Exlax sometimes.
:-)
A few years ago, I visited my favorite nursery an my plant friend who worked there. As we walked around, he would always take the time to educate me on the various plants. We passed a palm tree and he grabbed some of the seeds from it and ate them. Just like that. I ended up buying a baby of that palm tree and can't wait to taste the dates when it matures.
Seems to me that you could feed blogger some of those dates. I hear dates help with constipation. Hehe
They look soooo good... they must be really, really sweet! I just love coming over to look at all your plants!
I love all the vibrant colors in your garden, Naomi ! Happy Sunday to you :)
Yes blogger is bogged up alright, driving me crazy.
I am not a date eater blech but the palm trees are pretty :D
Lovely shots as always! We have a date palm in our garden which keeps spreading the seeds! we cannot let them all grow, there is no room for them... Palm trees are beautiful. And so are your shots!
I had some of these in florida.. they really are pretty.. though a touch messy lol...thank goodness for the birds!
That is one thing I like about Florida... tons of Palm Trees... take care
Stunning Naomi. What I find interesting is that from where i sit and view, your palms are so exotic (they remind me of a dancing Hawaiian woman sashaying) and yet, they are probably not to you. I wonder what you would find in my garden that is exotic? Perhaps exotic only applies to southern climes? I don't know.
Are date palms ripe when they are yellow? Your yard never cesses to amaze me.
The title is perfect.
I love the orange fruit/seeds. They're so bright and cheery. :)
