So....here below is a close up of the Chicken Pen or Turkey Pen or whatever you want to call it....I know the Chickens or Turkeys are there because I saw them moving around last Wednesday.....
In the video you just saw, the camera went past a bin of food of some sort...(I must try to get a close-up of that...it looks like Grapefruits or melons or something....) And late today I saw the lady of the house, after she had fed these little Chicken guys, putting the pail she used back in it's non-place on the ground near the food bin....
The picture above was 'the lady of the house' on Sunday....feeding her family. Okay, so now the stage is set: There are Chickens or Turkeys living in the Pen, just below the end of my garden. (I love the irony of Hollywood Blvd. being 2 minutes away, don't you? People getting their "stars" on Hollywood Blvd., and there are Chickens a thousand or so yards away....Only in Hollywood?) So around 2pm today my maid Lucy, who was here today for the once a week cleaning of my house, was working in the Guest Bathroom---the window in there looks down on the neighbors upper yard...and she hurries in to me, to tell me she sees two coyote's down there....
I hurriedly grabbed my trusty camera, and rushed out on the deck....by this time the Coyote's are scurrying through my yard and going on to Marilu Henner's property which is next door, to the right of my property----which, by the way, is all scrub land below her home....So, as you can see in the picture above of my Cactus Garden underneath my house, I was too late; they had moved too fast for me....I quickly went over to the right side of the deck hoping to get a picture or two of these guys over on the scrub....And....I lucked out! Here below, you can see
Coyote #1. kind of turned around waiting for his buddy, his son, his daughter, his wife---whomever----waiting for the other coyote.....
Let's get in a bit closer on this picture so you can really see him....
And then he kind of looked around quickly....still waiting for his Buddy, I think.....
But he didn't dawdle to long....very quickly he turned away, hurrying towards the safety of the brush, where he could hide......
out of sight, I'm afraid......
Almost immediately his buddy followed and I got one or two good shots of him/her....
Oh, let's get closer to this baby, too.....
He too, moved pretty fast.....
But I kept clicking away....
and then, he/she was gone, too......One of the things they were doing while in my garden, was eyeing those two Chickens, and I know exactly what they were thinking...."Here is our next meal!"

oh my.. pen or not chickens/ turkey's will surley bring out the coyotes! I think you will be getting more chances to take pictures of them!!! (they might get prickly noses if they come in your garden! heh)

You're right - only in Hollywood could you have Hollywood Blvd. and coyotes within such a close range!
My sister lives in Chattanooga and they had coyotes in the woods behind their house this summer. They sound so eerie when they howl.

Isn't nature just wonderful? I love all the excitement it brings to us. Sometimes I think nature is more entertaining than T.V. these days :-). So did the neighbors enjoy there picture being taken? :-). I didn't know you could have farm animals in that area? I thought there was certain ordinances that prohibited such thing? Geez, that's a terrible sight!
Don't they have a zoning ordinance or building codes there?
If that was next door to me or close enough to my house that I could hear the chickens/turkeys, the door to the coop would mysteriously be left open.
I hope you get something pretty to look at sometime soon. What a mess!

I think you should ask your new neighbours if they can 'camouflage' the chicken coop some?
What fantastic pictures of coyotes, my dear! I have even told MB to visit next time he's cruising mah blog.
I guess in California there are predators we can only read about, although I did read somewhere that they are finally debating re-introducing wolves to Scotland.
And if you have coyotes, then perhaps having chickens is a little foolhardy - wondering when you'll post a photo of a coyote cutting through your yard, dripping chicken in his jaws :-)

the first time I visited California, I was AMAZED at all the wildlife right in the middle of everything. I remember stopping for a red light next to a huge apartment complex and seeing CHICKENS pecking in the dirt under the hedge. What a wonderful place, and what wonderful photos. The coyotes are definitely recoonoitering (sp ?) for regular evening snacks.
Don't let Mr. Sweetie out even in the daytime... They are quick, and it'd break your heart to lose your beloved friend that way, even if it is nature...
Chickens are dirty and they smell. It can carry for up to a half-mile, easily... YUCK.

Oh, I love it!
I live on a little farm, and one reason I don't have chickens is because I don't want to attract coyotes. We have plenty of them around, but they tend to leave my place alone.
Had an interesting experience with another bit of wildlife though. When my youngest dog was a very small pup, I had to go out and protect him from a bald eagle that was circling him just about thirty feet off the ground! He retreated to a tree to watch, and shortly thereafter was joined by his mate. I see eagles fairly often, but that was the only time one of my pets has been targeted. Fortunately, my dogs are quite large, and that puppy grew quickly.
The only animals I really worry about here are the occasional bear or cougar. The former is more likely than the latter, but since the farms around us have much easier pickings, I don't really expect trouble from either!- Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 6:42:00 PM PST

These are great shots of the wild coyotes, I don't think I have ever seen a live one except in a zoo. Those chickens or turkeys or whatever they are don't stand a chance if the coyotes get to them. MMMMM chicken dinner! I wonder if the neighbours know there are coyotes "in them thar hills"!

I have them at the Tucson house too and see them frequently in the neighborhood hoping for a small pet that they can grab as well as the quail and bunnies.
