In the video you just saw, the camera went past a bin of food of some sort...(I must try to get a close-up of that...it looks like Grapefruits or melons or something....) And late today I saw the lady of the house, after she had fed these little Chicken guys, putting the pail she used back in it's non-place on the ground near the food bin....The picture above was 'the lady of the house' on Sunday....feeding her family. Okay, so now the stage is set: There are Chickens or Turkeys living in the Pen, just below the end of my garden. (I love the irony of Hollywood Blvd. being 2 minutes away, don't you? People getting their "stars" on Hollywood Blvd., and there are Chickens a thousand or so yards away....Only in Hollywood?) So around 2pm today my maid Lucy, who was here today for the once a week cleaning of my house, was working in the Guest Bathroom---the window in there looks down on the neighbors upper yard...and she hurries in to me, to tell me she sees two coyote's down there....I hurriedly grabbed my trusty camera, and rushed out on the deck....by this time the Coyote's are scurrying through my yard and going on to Marilu Henner's property which is next door, to the right of my property----which, by the way, is all scrub land below her home....So, as you can see in the picture above of my Cactus Garden underneath my house, I was too late; they had moved too fast for me....I quickly went over to the right side of the deck hoping to get a picture or two of these guys over on the scrub....And....I lucked out! Here below, you can see
Coyote #1. kind of turned around waiting for his buddy, his son, his daughter, his wife---whomever----waiting for the other coyote..... Let's get in a bit closer on this picture so you can really see him.... And then he kind of looked around quickly....still waiting for his Buddy, I think.....But he didn't dawdle to long....very quickly he turned away, hurrying towards the safety of the brush, where he could hide......out of sight, I'm afraid......Almost immediately his buddy followed and I got one or two good shots of him/her.... Oh, let's get closer to this baby, too..... He too, moved pretty fast..... But I kept clicking away....and then, he/she was gone, too......One of the things they were doing while in my garden, was eyeing those two Chickens, and I know exactly what they were thinking...."Here is our next meal!"
Stay tuned.....
More To Come......
What handsome dudes they are! If only we could explain to them we'd be happy to provide them with unlimited Iam's or Purina if they would just let our little fellas alone!(lol)
oh my.. pen or not chickens/ turkey's will surley bring out the coyotes! I think you will be getting more chances to take pictures of them!!! (they might get prickly noses if they come in your garden! heh)
Wow! Great post, Naomi! I like the video and all photos! I am amazed, enchanted, to see Chicken, Turkey and Coyotes in Hollywood Hills! Oh My! That is fantastic! I am glad you took those photos!
Have a nice day!
You're right - only in Hollywood could you have Hollywood Blvd. and coyotes within such a close range!
My sister lives in Chattanooga and they had coyotes in the woods behind their house this summer. They sound so eerie when they howl.
{{{{{{shudder!!}}}}}}
LOVE LOVE LOVE your posts, Naomi!
Well, Naomi! I never had you figured for a flat-out peeping Tom :)
Heh, good pictures and I am now interested in seeing what your neighbors are up to!
I will use a Maritimer term....."good on ya! Thats the very best!" Wonderful photos Naomi, and your descriptions are terrific. I can picture you and Lucy racing from one window to the other to get the coyote pics.
You be careful of your kitty! The coyotes around here are known to go after domestic cats.
Isn't nature just wonderful? I love all the excitement it brings to us. Sometimes I think nature is more entertaining than T.V. these days :-). So did the neighbors enjoy there picture being taken? :-). I didn't know you could have farm animals in that area? I thought there was certain ordinances that prohibited such thing? Hum ya never know right?
Have a great day!!
What an interesting neighborhood you are living in, Naomi! Chickens, coyetes, Marilu Henner!
Geez, that's a terrible sight!
Don't they have a zoning ordinance or building codes there?
If that was next door to me or close enough to my house that I could hear the chickens/turkeys, the door to the coop would mysteriously be left open.
I hope you get something pretty to look at sometime soon. What a mess!
Take care,
Anne

SO cool seeing those guys......
I think you should ask your new neighbours if they can 'camouflage' the chicken coop some?
What fantastic pictures of coyotes, my dear! I have even told MB to visit next time he's cruising mah blog.
I guess in California there are predators we can only read about, although I did read somewhere that they are finally debating re-introducing wolves to Scotland.
And if you have coyotes, then perhaps having chickens is a little foolhardy - wondering when you'll post a photo of a coyote cutting through your yard, dripping chicken in his jaws :-)

the first time I visited California, I was AMAZED at all the wildlife right in the middle of everything. I remember stopping for a red light next to a huge apartment complex and seeing CHICKENS pecking in the dirt under the hedge. What a wonderful place, and what wonderful photos. So relaxing to see those beautiful coyotes right in L.A. Thanks!!!
Naomi:
I am honored you stopped by and commented. Don't be a stranger, come again.
If you find out what the treatment from Germany was, I'd be curious to know. Seems like Germany is the place to be for advanced medical treatment. Farrah Fawcett just came back after getting a cancer treatment.
So if you find out, let me know.
Thank you again,
Anne

Oh my goodness! What an adventure and all from your deck! I love that you put video on your blog and I'm so happy you got the pictures of the coyotes. Great job! I'm a little concerned with the chickens drawing coyotes to the property, but would be more concerned if they got a rooster.
I wish I had wildlife in my backyard. I did, however, run into 2 coyotes here in Boston while I was walking my dog one day!
Farm critters right next door! Gee, I never expected that in your neighborhood!! I'll be glad when you get a video of the turkeys or chickens or whatever they are!
How neat to see the wolves!! I'll bet they'll be back looking for a poultry dinner!
Just don't let Mr. Sweetie outside to view the wildlife no matter what he says. He can get a wonderful view just by looking outside the window.
Good Tuesday afternoon to you, Naomi.
The coyotes are definitely recoonoitering (sp ?) for regular evening snacks.
Don't let Mr. Sweetie out even in the daytime... They are quick, and it'd break your heart to lose your beloved friend that way, even if it is nature...
Chickens are dirty and they smell. It can carry for up to a half-mile, easily... YUCK.
Isn't there some sort of ordination that would prevent that if you talked to the City inspector or something ???
Wow, Naomi! What beautiful action shots of the coyote! Amazing and scary at the same time. I'm wondering how close they're able to get to your property.
It was interesting to see your neighbor's yard from that height; it makes you wonder what the coyotes will do when they discover farm animals in their yard.
Can't wait for more to come on this neighbors and visitors intrigue!
GREAT PICS!... and will certainly stay tuned for the Chicken/Turkey saga...To be Dinner or Not to Be Dinner!!! That is the question! lol
Oh, I love it!
I live on a little farm, and one reason I don't have chickens is because I don't want to attract coyotes. We have plenty of them around, but they tend to leave my place alone.
Had an interesting experience with another bit of wildlife though. When my youngest dog was a very small pup, I had to go out and protect him from a bald eagle that was circling him just about thirty feet off the ground! He retreated to a tree to watch, and shortly thereafter was joined by his mate. I see eagles fairly often, but that was the only time one of my pets has been targeted. Fortunately, my dogs are quite large, and that puppy grew quickly.
The only animals I really worry about here are the occasional bear or cougar. The former is more likely than the latter, but since the farms around us have much easier pickings, I don't really expect trouble from either!
Ironic to have turkeys just a few thousand feet from Hollywood Blvd.? You haven't seen some of the films that have played there lately! (lol) The chickens are appropriate too, as overhyped pix usually lay an egg.
Chickens? Roosters?
You sure do get a lot of wildlife around you.
We have lots of squirrels and skunks in our 'hood here in Toronto.
WOW!! The most exciting thing i've had in my yard was a few deer and a badger. Pretty cool for Hollywood! I've been watching your neighbor on the Celebrity Apprentice, I giggle when I see her and think she lives next door to you. =)
These are great shots of the wild coyotes, I don't think I have ever seen a live one except in a zoo. Those chickens or turkeys or whatever they are don't stand a chance if the coyotes get to them. MMMMM chicken dinner! I wonder if the neighbours know there are coyotes "in them thar hills"!
Also.... I almost forgot.... it was nice to hear your voice giving the running commentary on your excellent "peeping tom" video!! :-)
LOL all I could think of was how over exited Mark would have got if we had been there at the same time as the coyotes. So is that at the Stillers old place ?
Great pictures as usual! It almost seems redundant to say that. I have a feeling the coop-building neighbors are not from California and do not realize that their "fowl pets" will soon be coyote food.
I am so gald you grabbed the pics of the coyotes! How wonderful that you got to see them adn capture them on camera to share with us! I suspect you are right in having your neighbour to thank for that ib leaving a coyote version of a fast food place at the bottom of your garden!
That structure they are building looks awful. Such a shame they took those plants out that acted as a barrier. Perhaps they could cover up that awful structure?
Omg, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw these pictures!!! How amazing!! But as some of the others have said, I'd be keeping a really watchful eye on Sweetie with them around. Is he an indoor cat, or does he like to wander around outside?
I'm meant to be doing chores but this is so fascinating. The thought occurred to me - would coyotes be as dangerous as foxes are to chickens? I suspect yes. I can't decide whether your middle name should be Marple or Attenborough:)
I have them at the Tucson house too and see them frequently in the neighborhood hoping for a small pet that they can grab as well as the quail and bunnies.
I actually like chicken coops; so think that's cool. I have had chickens but right now am not regular enough where I am to keep them. They do take being regular in what you do for them or they eat their own eggs.
I cannot imagine anyone keeping chickens or turkeys in the Hollywood Hills! Certainly they don't need them for food....LOL.
Coyotes in the neighborhood? I'd be scared. We only have deer and racoons and possums.
Those coyotes are absolutely gorgeous! Their color reminds me of my shiba inu, Wolf! Great photos :-)
OMG -- my husband called me to the back door a few minutes ago, and what was standing on the other side of our fence? A coyote!
So much for them leaving our place alone. My dogs didn't even bark at him. I went out and chatted with him for a couple of minutes, but he didn't stick around too long.
Wish I'd had my camera!
Soon the only thing left of those chickens will be FEATHERS!!!
I sure hope that pen is secure, or those coyotes will surely enjoy a nice, chicken feast.
I shudder at the thought of coyotes in my garden. (Not that I have a garden *heehee*) Great piccies of them though - thanks for that.
As for chickens/turkeys being next door? Urgh. I hope they don't wake you.
Scruffy things aren't they? I wouldn't want to get close to them, but it is fascinating to watch them when they come around! Good for you for getting those pictures :)
Oh, I love this: "The latest and greatest from The Hill."
We have coyotes by us, but I don't like them. I wonder if there's ever been a fat coyote, or maybe they wouldn't over-eat, even if given the chance.
Hi Naomi! Coyotes in your neighborhood?! I like your pictures of the coyotes: these are better than watching a video! Good day.
We sometimes see Coyotes brazenly jogging down the streets in our foothills. Always amazes me.
Great photos!
~S
Yes, I think Deslily is right... you'll be seeing the coyotes again. I wonder if these neighbors are SoCal people and know that their chickens are tantalizing.
~S :)
I've always heard there was coyotes in those hills, you have to watch your dogs.
Oh, I've been watching Marilu Henner on The Apprentice! She's so smart.
Uh oh! All I could think of was "Green Acres" as I was reading this....lol
My goodness, sounds like you have Old McDonalds farm there in your hills!
Unreal....lol And I have a feeling those chickens won't be around too long.
