And Then.....there is this clip below....also from her one woman show....two songs, "Stormy Weather", a signature song of hers, and "I Believe", from 'THE WIZ'....Ms. Horne was 64 years old and never sounded better. I saw this show three times, and would go again, if I had the opportunity....
This last clip is from 1994, another "live" performance when she was 77 years old...Seventy-Seven, people! Still sexy, still singing great, still with that sly sense of humor...This is a true treat.....! And this performance along with 18 other songs is available on DVD...."An Evening With Lena Horne"....you will not be sorry to own this.....I personally find it most inspiring in every way, and a joy to watch....The man that they cut to sitting at a table in the club is the unforgettable Bobby Short, who held forth at the Carlyle Hotel for almost 40 years, until he died....One artist appreciating another artist! I love that!
It makes me feel wonderful to once again see this truly great "Artist". Bless her heart, Lena Horne is 90 years old! Talk about a true treasure.I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.....
More To Come.....
I just love listening to Lena sing. Before my father passed away, he gave me his record collection, and one of my favorites is of Lena. Just never thought of her as being 90 years old. WOW...and she looks fantastic too!!

Hey, I keep checking to see if you're posting anything about the fires. I was worried that you might be close to them, but with no mention of them, I'll assume you're a safe distance away. As for Miss Lena -- FANTASTIC!! I've always loved her voice and the way she wrapped herself around the songs and delivered the words with her own style. She's also aged phenomenally well. I'm so jealous! ;-)
Wow!
I just finshed watching the first clip. What an amazing performance! Do you think Janis Joplin was inspired by her? I don't have any Lena Horne on my playlist yet but I'll be getting some as of today for sure. I'm so glad you figured out how to include videos here (pretty easy finally eh?). I'll be back a little bit later to watch the other two. Thanks so much for sharing this.
You Rock Naomi! :-)
Stormy Weather is one of my favorite songs - and NOBODY has ever sung it better than Lena (or looked better doing it!!)
Naomi, Never thought about how old she might be did not realize that she is 90. Am unable to see photo
s today or video. But do not know much about how cyber world works, coming to read you thru VV's Blog. But was also thinking about where you are in relation to the fires. We must all pray for those families. And am assuming that you are not affected directly, so am very greatful for that.
I always loved Lena Horn. Her voice was like velvet. And 77! Whew! Just proves age is merely a number and to think she's now 90! Bravo to a great lady!
Naomi: we're watching the news about the fire over here and it's really scary. So many people out of homes... it's so sad... Can you please just let me know that you're okay? May he protect you and put you under his wing...
I'm glad you figured out how to get these up! Lena Horne has a great voice. Hard to believe she is 90!!! Wow!!
Oh I have not listened to her music before but I can't see the video clips, I'll try again.
By the way, how far away are you from LAX Naomi?
Hi,
I wake up again. Concerned about what happens around you.The smoke and fog and fire---scary
Now I'm listening to Lena Horn. Brilliant
How can I ever go to sleep this night.
On top of that: Having talked to you on the phone. For the 2nd time.
Priceless - it is.
First call: ---- then:
-- and your singing voice at your answering machine
I'll call you when in Miami.
OMG - how on earth could I forget to comment this post?
*cause I wake up more concerned about what going on around you
hugs
Firstly, I hope friends of yours are safe out there in CA.
Oh, what a marvelous post about the glorious and gorgeous Lena Horne and her talented voice. What an unforgettable voice that I, too, love! When I was a child, her music was often played and our family would seek out her appearances on TV. (Am I remembering correctly that she appeared on TV?) I recall learning so much about her life through that regular exposure.
I think my mom is a big fan of hers. I cannot believe she's 90!
One of my very favorite female vocalists. Great post!
Ooh, I love Lena Horne. I'm reading this at work, so the videos are blocked. I'll come back again tonight to listen and watch!
I hear the winds are dying down now, so hopefully the worst is over with the fires. You'll soon be able to open your windows again!
[hugs

I saw Lena Horne in her Broadway show "The Lady and Her Music" and loved every second of it. Who is a better performer? Class, class, class! So glad you got the videos to work--I hope there are more to come including some private treasures of your own!
i have been watching those fires in so cal and worrying over you so i am glad to see a comment on indy's blog! it means you must be safe for now!
reading through other comments it appears thati am not the only one who worried about you!
for Lena Horne, she is a fantastic artist.
Oh, Naomi. She was something, wasn't she. I listened to "Believe in Yourself" twice. It's one of my favorite songs from The Wiz.
Great post. And oh boy, you're going to have fun with putting videos in your post now!
~S :)
Lena is very cool! Hard to believe she is 90!!
Congrats on getting YouTubes on your blog :)
Nice job with the videos.
Yes, Lena is a national treasure.
I tried several times and don't know why but am unable to view or hear the Lena Horne videos. I have long been a fan of hers so it was a real disappointment.
Naomi - I had to open this post again - due to you and the collection of songs you presented.
Hahaha - here it's 1 am and you are 4 pm.
see my last about Ingelin. Happy and modern horror combined
Naomi, I wanted to thank you for your reassuring words yesterday. I responded to you on my blog, but it occured to me today that maybe you didn't have a chance to see that. Be well.
Yeah! for getting the videos on. I still have to click to them. I don't think my set up allows it. Next you can learn how to link to you back posts when you mention them. That is really easy.
Thanks for this show. I couldn't appreciate her much when I was young but I see her amazing talent now. Her voice and plus the fact that she is gorgeous. Makes me wonder if she still sings. If she's happy.
She is fantastic! I hadn't listened to her music before.
Naomi,,,I just love Stormy Weather...My dad had a fabulous voice and I can remember him singing that song when I was a little girl....Lena knew how to put the emotion with the song and there is no wonder that no one can sing it better than her......I was watching an old rerun of the Cosby show on Monday and Lena was the guest on the show that day...What a lady and I can't believe she is still singing at 90. WOW!
What a Diva! She's amazing. Just finished watching the second clip. Michele sent me this time -sorry it took me so long to come by... I was trying to sort out some technical stuff with my computer - I'm worried it will conk out on me. But that's boring to talk AND read about. Just have to say that I'm so pleased we've met each other Naomi, albeit in cyberspace but it's a true joy and a pleasure to exchange with you and I always relish your comments on my blog. You're a very interesting lady indeed.
Lena, Lena, Lena!!
What a powerhouse and beauty too.
I LOVED her in The Wiz.
I used to listen to those songs years ago, and I had them all memorized.
Now that you've starting posting You Tube videos, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of them here.
Great post, Naomi! Congratulations for the video! Love Lena Horne!
