wardrobe!

I am about 6 1/2 years old here.....And in looking through my pictures for my Birthday post, I was struck by the consistancy of 'dress' that I saw...Here I am in pants with suspenders....And later....much much later....like, maybe 43 or so years later....here I am again.... Looking somewhat different.....lol....But, suspenders, none-the-less.

I think this was around 1981 or so....I am sitting on the deck of my house in a chair that is long long gone....into a huge dumpster about three years later, but rescued by someone along with the three other matching chairs....my own way of re-cycling before we were formely asked to do so.....This picture was taken by my dear dear voice teacher's (Richard Camillucci) widow, when she was here in Los Angeles on business...Then....there is this next picture taken in 1996 I believe....at Betty's house, my 65th Birthday Party.... Well, not exactly suspenders but, these were lovely black linen dress-up overalls....anything for comfort, please....and I loved them and the way they felt....One of the things I noticed looking over all these pictures is that some of my clothes were truly peculiar and I think downright ugly! Not sure I thought that at the time, though....Personally, I love the pictures where I am in really comfy tops...colorful, but comfy....like this picture below.... This looks so comfortable to me....! And it is "me"....this was some Christmas at Betty's, maybe 1990 something....back in the day, I always cooked the stuffing, and for a number of years I would cook it at Betty's house...later I found it easier to cook it at my house and then get it over to her house so she could stuff the turkey very very early on Christmas mornng...but in this next picture I was cooking it her house....comfy clothes and all.... Swetshirts....that's my style! Over and over the pictures that I see of me that I like, I am wearing a swetshirt or something soft and comfortable...."Soft", another major requirement.... I can still remember the feel of this blouse/shirt, like it was yesterday...it was a lovely dark brown velour----when velour was kind of new and "in"....but that wasn't why I liked it. It was because it was soft and it felt delicous next to my skin, and the truth is...I didn't know it was in or out or whatever...I just loved the way it felt on my body. Soft. Soft. Soft....! Ahhhh yes, those were the days.....You can see how long ago this was----I was still smoking then, as you can see...(Oh my God, how crazy was it that I ever ever smoked....??) But not for too much longer. I quit for good, about a year or so after this picture was taken and this picture was taken sometime in 1969 I think....Lord, the memories....

On an entirely different subject: I will be tied up...(no, not literally) for the next few days, watching DVD'S from the Television Academy...and voting on some "special" things and I am not allowed to say what they are, (help!)....So, if I do not get over to visit you, PLEASE forgive me.....

FURTHER UPDATE: George W. did WHAT?

Another nail in the coffin of Demoracy.

He gave Scooter Libby a "get out of jail free card"...?

Excuse me..Are THESE PEOPLE SOOO F**KING ABOVE THE LAW that they can do whatever they want????

I guess so. This trial, that cost the American people millions...and Mr. Bush, can just give this criminal a "pass"???

Never. Never in my lifetime did I think I would EVER see these kinds of abuses of power in our government, and the lack of "CHECKS AND BALANCES. Never!

And, it is ALWAYS the Republicans.

ALWAYS.

Nixon.

A Crook.

Pardoned by his former Vice President, who in death, FINALLY spoke out about this current horrendously corrupt administration. (We can thank Mr. Ford for the likes of Dick Cheney.)

Where are our other elected officials in all this?

Where is the congress in this?

WHERE?

I tell you, I'm done here.

I Am Totally And Completely Done.

There May Or May Not Be Anymore To Come.....

Update: Tonight, Tuesday...Keith Olbermann is going to have a "special comment" on this President and the Vice President...I believe the topic is "impeachment". MSNBC 5:pm & 9"pm Pacific, and I'm not sure of the time back East....check it out. He is the voice of sanity!

I love these photos of you and especially the black and white one in the velour shirt. You look incredible! Comfy clothes are so important and I must admit I have never been a slave to fashion, though I do like to look nice as well.

On the matter of Scooter Libby I am apalled also. Words fail me about the abuse of powert that your Presisdent has displayed. It's just plain wrong. But Naomi, please don't let this stop you blogging or 'going on'. The world needs more voices like yours to speak out and the blog world would certainly be a poorer place without you.

I like that soft feel against my skin too......Have fun watching the DVD's and making your vote.....Right now I am disappointed in both parties. The immigration bill was a farce. I think the American people just don't trust congress anymore.

Ohhhh how I love big, comfy clothes! lol.. the bigger and baggier the better! Ahhhh, the freedom of it all! hahahaha..

I know I can look at least presentable if I dress "correctly".. but at my age, it's all about comfort!

cigarette or not I love that b&w photo of you Naomi.. and the one in the red top with the great smile!.. oh heck, I like them all! lol

Without screaming: Bush has got to be the worst President we've had in some time. Some others haven't been the greatest either.. but this one is the PITTS! I can't wait for his reign of dictatorship is over!

You must have been surprised to see a mention of my dad's suspenders in my last post.

You look like Elizabeth Taylor in the last shot, but that cigarette!

I love looking at the styles of clothes and how they change and eventually come back in style.

I wanted to find a number of old pictures of myself for my birthday post, but couldn't find enough time in the day to do it. *sigh* I really enjoy your photos. As for politics, are decency, honesty, integrity, and character so rare these days that we can't find a few good people to serve in Congress who will protect our rights and enforce our laws?

AMEN,AMEN,AMEN! to the 2nd half of the post.

Like you, I am all for comfort in clothing and always have been. I love the feel of soft silks and linens, velour is heavenly and cashmere (when I can afford it)too. Love the pics, Naomi.

Enjoy your DVD's.

Enjoyed the wardrobes....ironic that you always gravitated toward the same style.
On Bush...Your sentiments mirror mine exactly! I just did a short blog entry for tomorrow....the birthday of our country and I've NEVER been SO disillusioned, sad, disgusted and betrayed by our government. This has been a nightmare 8 years and it's not over yet, I guess.

I love seeing your pictures, I specially enjoy it because all my pics of my childhood are at my parents', many thousand miles away! Love your pic wearing your velour shirt, you look elegant! I have quite a few pics with a cigarette in my hand...at least the current pictures don't show any cigarettes, lol!
Oh, and politicians are the same all over the world...It doesn't help us any, I know...
Happy 4th of July a bit early!

I just love seeing these photos..sort of like "Naomi, This is Your Life". lol! The amazing thing is that you haven't changed or aged...how is that possible!!?
I agree about comfort clothing...the key to dressing is feeling good in whatever you're wearing(within reason of course, some things are just simply a fashion DON'T). And color, definitely color!!
As for the state of our government...you said it all - I truly have nothing to add that you didn't already say. It's an abomination that this man was EVER allowed to run this country.
Happy 4th and have fun watching those DVD's!!

Love this post, Naomi. The idea of this post is great! Very, very creative and witty! Your wardrobe shows that you have a special style. Me too, I like comfortable clothes and shoes. I love wear tennis (principally Reebok). Since I was a kid I love comfy clothes and I remember I hate organdy's dress, did you remember those fabric?

Love all photos! Really, I enjoyed so much this post!

You radiate a joy and an enjoyment of life when you are with your friends !

As far corrupt government, it is a shame to tarnish what could have been so inherently good.

Naomi,

Love your clothes - I, too, am in favor of comfort and "softness" - love sweats and live in them in the winter.

On "the idiot in the WH" - he has abused his power more than anyone I've ever seen someone who thinks he is above the law!

Me again - yes, the author of the book is Paul Reiser, the actor. I think he's written two books that I know of...

Question - in the picture of your 65th birthday - is that Jane Powell on the right??? Just curious.

You in suspenders - great and comfy, like the velours skirt. Me to remember how pleasant and soft they were.

And these guys above the law - they lack something - contact with the real world and other peoples feelings.. at least.

You are of course excused - do you duty.

Naomi--are you sure there isn't a Wilde "Picture of Dorian Caryl" stashed in Sweetie's favorite closet?? You look "20-something" to this day! Your clothes are great, too. Nothing makes a woman look old like dull, drab "wannabe tasteful" outfits which advertise she has no taste of her own. You, on the other hand, are a bonafide artist---and it shows.

Now, about the politics--my dad was a traveling salesman, and at an early age, I was taught to say, "my friends of the republican party: the democrats have been robbing the country for years. I say, give us a chance!"

Truth is, we have let both parties become corrupted by the greedy, the agenda-pushers, the spoiled rich kids and worse. I am a strong believer in "turn the rascals out"--2 terms and they should be outta there. I pray the democrats field a candidate who isn't bringing more old baggage than a La Scala diva!

In the meantime, it would do little good to impeach Bush. It would focus public attention away from what is REALLY going on.

So in the meantime, remain vigilant, articulate, and remember, "illegitimum no carborundum".

Hmmmm--Bushes require constant pruning---Maybe we need a master gardner to take the chainsaw and snips to the "#1 fan of wwII movies" entourage of cronies, con artists and jerks.

There is nothing like comfortable clothes Naomi!! I loved seeing all these photos. I think that when we find things that are comfy that we tend to buy other things like that.

As for Scooter Libby I had never heard of him until now. I do not watch the news and I guess I keep my head in the sand, so to speak. When I watch it, it just breaks my heart, so it isn't worth it to me. It's a shame that we don't have good decent leaders of our country. Seems both parties are no good. I think we need just a plain old regular person in there but they can not get in. Only a person with big bucks can make it anywhere. Just a shame all the way around.

I didn't even know about the attacks in England until yesterday when my neighbor told me. Sad shape our world is in, sad, sad, sad.

That soft, velour shirt sounds like something I would really like to wear.
Being comfy is VERY important. Who wants to go around in stiff, tight clothing?
Not me, and apparantly, not you either. :-)

You and I disagree on the Bush thing. I remember Clinton doling out pardons at the end of his term.
All presidents have the power to commute or pardon, not just Republicans, and all of them can use these powers. I remember Clinton pardoned Marc Rich and set off a storm of controversy. It was within his rights and powers as the president. These powers are extended to ALL presidents, regardless of party. People make a big deal over these things, and they usually keep quiet when a president from their party does them.
I'm okay with both Dem presidents and Repub presidents using their powers of commuting and pardoning.

(I'm also a huge fan of suspenders...maybe it's an artistic/journalist thing!)
