Birds just really have SO much personality -- and you capture it all so well! I always thought a bird was just a bird until I owned our little cockatiel -- boy did I learn! If I had had the digital camera back then, my blog would be FULL of that precious baby!
seeing doves just reminds me of the lack of them around here. Oh they are here, just not like in San Fernando Valley, where you could find nests of them just about anywhere...
you are "one with nature" Naomi!
I think there is nothing softer-looking in the world that the color of those doves (assuming a color can look soft...LOL)
I enjoy seeing the world through your eyes!
Doves are so beautiful...you are right, watching them preen is wonderful.

stunning photos, I love these.
Good Wednesday morning Naomi,
The energy in your garden clearly nurtures many beautiful living things - plants and animals alike !
*smiles*
Like an old married couple. Still love doves.
Hello Naomi!!! Been away for almost two months and I can see I have missed a lot of your beautiful posts. I will go over each one in the next few days so I can catch up with what's happening.
As always, you again have posted beautiful photos. What a collection you have. Good day!
I love the ruffly feathers. They look so soft and fluffy. :)

Oh dear you N, how I would love to sit in your garden and watch and observe what you here share with the whole planet. I'm lack of english words.. and besides, you have all those wondeful (cactus) flowers, which we do not have.
Sitting out in the sunrise - only to the sounds of the birds - heavenly...
And the sunset from your home --
btw. Yes, I have seen that Bergman movie with - Smultron stedet

I'm still amazed how he was able to direct all those "natural" scenes... we such a great result.
I really like that one pic where the dove looks puffed out.
With your camera on hand, all their preening doesn't go unnoticed. You saw it, and now so do WE!
They are such sweet birds.
Aren't they fun to watch??!! You had quite a show. Lucky you!
It was like sitting in your garden with you watching the doves and mother nature's breathless loveliness all around you.
Oh I love the doves Naomi!! We have them here and they look just like yours!! Maybe they're kin!!! Haha!!
I'm so glad you have that waterfall feature for them. I know they so enjoy it!
Thanks for asking about me on my blog! It's nice to be missed!!! :)
Hugs,
Rachel
How sweet! Your delight in the company of these birds is palpable from your post. Just sitting there in the garden with them as you all survey things around you, low lovely!!!
It really is the little things in life that are so wonderful isn't it/ Thanks for sharing it, I love how you take so much joy from nature.
Thanks for your lovely and thoughtful comments on my blog. It really heartens me when I see you have dropped by to see how I am so to speak. I have put an update about my mother on my blog and some sweet little pics of some furry critters I saw at the zoo too.
I found bird superstitions on the internet and top of the list were doves:
Doves
The dove is the only bird that is immune from any curse of the devil.
It has long been associated with peace and love as a pair of doves will often mate for life and both will care for the upbringing of their young. As such, doves are often used to bring good fortune to marriage.
If you dream of a dove then your future will bring great happiness.
If you wish on the first dove that you see at the beginning of the year, your wish will come true.
Miners would not enter a mine if a dove sat at the entrance until it had flown away.
And I love your doves - so beautiful and velvety grey......

Do they know it's you and stay still for you to take these wonderful pics??
Who needs tranquilisers when you can watch such an engrossing sight. And you capture those moments so perfectly Naomi.
I'm sure they enjoy sitting there with the water running gently under them. They are beautiful and would be a pleasure to watch...

Hi I'm always fascinated to see birds and animals from different parts of the world... they're more exotic than our doves that's for sure! We used to have white doves in our garden. Pure white. And our black cat caught and ate one, growling demoniacally at anyone or anything that came close. Wow, the symbolism of THAT!! Your doves look more like British woodpigeons. They're really feathery - I mean their feathers are all ruffled. Lovely birds.
I Love your portrait shot of you playing pool with a fag hanging out of your mouth.
Darling I am in London and a fag is merely a cigarette. By the way.
OK I came here via comments on comments ... all the best
do come by mine if you like:

Love the doves, Naomi! They looks adorable and transmit such a peace! Love principally the preening picture! Great photos!
I took a dozen or so pictures of one dove on my deck railing the other day, Naomi. Doves look so nice from the back and side--but they look almost comical when seen directly from the front. It's weird how much of difference that makes.
I love that fountain you have. I remember when you posted about it last year-it's really nice. The doves were fortunate to have such a pretty place to perch!
How are you? Long time no speak!
FYI: You are on my blogroll (at: www.hollywoodthoughts.com). Any chance of getting on yours?
Best,
Jon

We have mourning doves here, but not very many. I thought when I retired 5 years ago, that I would be a bird-watcher. But I'm more of a husband-watcher. (As in take care of.)
Mourning doves have the softest "coo" and that is the word that fits... not a chirp or caw or squawk... but a low and lovely "coo". A robin built a nest in our fig tree this year and there was one egg but I never saw her on the nest and now the egg is gone, so I think another predator bird stole it or she really didn't know what to do. The nest was made quite well though.
By the way, I loved the gorgeous flowers too. Dried flowers shouldn't make us sad.... like we become as we age.... they are "well preserved"!
I enjoy having birds in our backyard, too. One of my favorite things to watch is to see them preening. I love those fluffed up feathers! :)
That waterfall is very special...just like your pics! Michele sent me this time :)
That was just a delightful little post! I have often thought of putting a little waterfall in back for my feathered friends. I think they would enjoy it, as you have proved!
I always come away from reading your words with a happy feeling in my heart. You inspire me to look at the world just that much more closely.
I'm going to spend a little time looking out our windows. I hope I have even a fraction of your vision.
I love doves, so I especially enjoyed this post.
Thanks for sharing what you see with us.
