More To Come......
Lovely! :) I haven't seen hummers for a couple of years, since I lived a bit more west of you. Weird how a few miles can make a difference. Hope you and your friends have a fun b-day celebration for Betty! I haven't been around much in a while. Oh, also remembered you mentioned the DeLuises a while back. My good friend did some pics of Dom - www.fewsmith.com
Great guy.
Have a wonderful week, Naomi!
boy do i miss the california "hummers'! they are so plentiful there!
Great pictures Naomi!! I keep telling you to make a table book of your pictures!
Happy Birthday to Betty!! It's my grandson's b'day too! (and my mother's if she were still with me)
Wow! Nice folks born on May 23rd!!
Gee you do take some incredible photos OOLOTH!! You must have a steady hand to take wonderful photos, like the ones you have posted today... I do love hummingbirds, as I have told you once before. So tiny and so lovely...
Good Morn, are not Gods creatures GREAT. It is still a little cool here but I have a humming bird feeder, that needs to come out and get cleaned up. My humming birds that come around, really like purple, have a small flower bed outside, of my kitchen window, on ledge of window sill, had a medicine box (purple) and that little bird, comes up to my window, and stairs at the box. The first time i noticed him, he surprised me, but any way can not wait for him to come back. Thank you again for sharing. pat
First off....Please wish Betty a very Happy Birthday from me. And all of you enjoy your lunch. Looking forward to the photos and details.
You certainly are quite proficient with that camera! I know how difficult it is to capture hummingbirds, because of their constant movement. But you did a spectacular job!
(Where on earth did you get that amazing water fall? I'd love to get one for my outside patio! The island birds would love it.)
So close! I never get to look at one for long in real life because they are always on the go! I have been trying to photograph the indigo buntings, yellow finch, and red cardinals in my yard with not much luck. I spend too much time on it for the results I get, but I do understand how exciting it can be when you get one! I love the background swirl behind the humming bird. It looks like it's coming out of a vortex. I guess birds are natually high...up in the sky like that.
I'm fascinated as are you with these hummingbirds -- great pictures! Happy Birthday wishes to your friend, Betty Garrett.
I love seeing hummingbirds, and thanks to you, I am seeing them mnore closely and clearly than ever before.
Please tell Betty I said Happy Birthday - and wish her many more! I look forward to the photos!
Hummingbirds are my most favorite birds. They just amaze me. At my uncles Lake house, he had this wrap around porch and he had 3 hummingbird feeders right next to eachother. We would sit outside on the porch, literally directly under or next to those feeders and 5-10 hummingbirds would come and eat and not be scared by us at all. You could hear their wings buzz! Those are great pictures. I love them!
Wow! Just gorgeous Naomi! You are a great photographer, because is so difficult to picture hummingbird, they did not still!
Really I think those birds LOVES you!
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your dear friend Betty Garrett! I hope all of you have a lovely and joyful celebration! I am looking forward to see the pictures!
Those are awesome shots! Hummingbirds are so hard to capture! Beautiful!
Amazing - you must either have the patience of a Saint or take LOTS of pictures. [grin].
Seeing your garden and the visitors it attracts always make me want to move to warmer climes - though I guess with Global Warming those climes are coming to me.... [chuckle].
Oh! What fun! Those are some absolutely spectacular pictures you got. And like you said, that drop of water on his beak was a huge bonus!
Of course, I was kidding about not taking but one picture in Italy. And they're up now if you wanna come visit. :)
YAY for Ladies Who Lunch!!! I wanna come to that!!! I LUNCH! Indeed I do!
Great hummin'bird pics to Naomi! I do love those little critters -- but mine isn't visiting too often anymore! It's sort of hit and miss.
When my daughter was a little girl, (now 52) I recall an amazing drawing of a hummingbird she did with artists chalk. Your photos brought back the memory.
I hope that you and Betty and all the ladies who lunch have a day made of happy shared memories.
Wow! I can't believe you actually captured all of this with your camera!!! I don't think I have ever seen a hummingbird 'in person' - they are so delightful!!
I hope Betty Garrett has a WONDERFUL birthday!! As you know, I adore her!! She has such spirit and is such a wondeful actress!! I hope her day is full of joy, wonderful surprises and magnificent treats!!
Very cool pix of the hummingbirds! Gord's parents get a lot of them at their place (they live in the country). They are fun to watch.
Happy birthday to Betty! I hope you guys had a fun party :)
I loved getting to see a hummingbird other that the ones we have here! They were wonderful pictures.....
and happy birthday to Betty!
That hummingbird is amazing ! How amazing those pictures are !!!
We had humming birds by the score down in Mississippi. From late April to the end of October. Most were a green color with a red stripe around the neck... one or two had completely red heads. They love the red nectar we put out. Great pictures!
"Ladies Who Lunch. . . ."
How I wish I were one of them! I can't think of anything that could possibly be more fun.
Happy Birthday to Betty, and please give her a big hug from me. I've loved her for many years.
I'm here this time from Michele's but as you know, I come here all the time anyway.
The little hummingbirds are wonderful. I love how they defy all science and fly anyway.
Great photos Naomi! And congrats on being Michele's site of the day. Tell your friend happy birthday from me!
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! I love the picture with the drop of water on the tip of his beak. Hummingbirds are beautiful. We don't have them here or maybe we do but are called differently. I don't know. Well captured.
Thanks for the great pictures! I hope you have a perfectly wonderful lunch.
Incredible photos, Naomi! Such pretty little creatures they are... So glad Michele sent me to see them and to say Hello to you today!!!
Naomi, thanks for the visit and comments about the poison ivy. In the last 2 pics, that IS poison ivy vine climbing up the trees, and all the green leaves you see in the pics are poison ivy leaves. One of the trees is an oak and the other is either a maple or a poplar.
CONGRATULATIONS on being Michele's site of the day! I didn't know that when I was here earlier.
How lucky you are, we don't see hummingbirds down under. I now have my husband looking at your site and he is most impressed with your photographic brilliance. He wants to know what kind of camera & lens you use.
Thank you for such beatiful photos as well, as my five year old is so fascintated with your site as well.
Hi Naomi, Michele sent me. Beautiful blog and pictures! I enjoyed wandering through.
Those are truly amazing pictures *wink*
Congrats on being Michele's SOTD!!!happy birthday to your dear friend and happy lunch with the "Ladies who Lunch", what a fun day!
If there is amf right above me, it's me! I like to confuse myself with multiple personalities, lol!
Oh, what absolutely gorgeous photos!!! I can understand you being thrilled at capturing that beautiful hummingbird so well :-)
Happy Birthday to Betty!
Michele sent me today!
My grandfather is an avid bird lover and when he used to live in a house with a lot of property, he had hummingbird feeders throughout his garden. After dinner, my grandparents, my parents and the kids would sit on the porch and watch and listen to the birds fly around.
Lovely pictures! Too bad there was no time to set up a tripod and get some wing flapping action. That would have been a coup, no?
Michele sent me today; thanks for the pics.
Awesome, Awesome,Awesome,
I am green with envy!!!
Michele sent me
Amazing photos! I am very envious . . .

Those are remarkable pictures, Naomi. How fortunate you were that the little guy cooperated enough to get those shots.
And... Congratulations on being chosen the Site of the Day!
Michele sent me,
Mike
I love hummingbird pictures, we don't have them here so I have never seen one in real life. Much like Mark and the squirrels HAHAHA, that still cracks me up when I think about how excited he was. I know it amused you too.
Happy birthday ( albeit belated) to dear dear Betty.
I am not sure if this was a coincidence or not but on the 23rd HERE they played Out on the Town on TCM here that day and I happened to have seen part of it. Quite spooky really lol.
I love them too. :) Every time I see one, it's like I've caught something special and fleeting. So I totally understand what you're saying.
I hope you're having a marvelous birthday lunch with Betty and co.
Does anyone still wear a hat?
~S
More pictures please!! Even though I'm here regularly...
Michele sent me! Congrats on being site of the day! :)
Michele sent me too. Fabulous photos. And my best to Betty. She was one of the best second bananas in the business.
A belated happy birthday to Betty, Naomi. I hope the lunch you're having today is quite enjoyable. BTW, were you aware that they're broadcasting those last episodes of Studio 60 on Sunset, starting tonight? I know you liked that show as did I.
I love the pictures of the hummingbird, Naomi. They're so difficult to take pictures of--and to get pictures of the grooming ritual! Wow.
Hello, Michelle sent me.
Those are some really great photos. I'm impressed the little fella stayed put long enough for so many shots.
Hi there!
Michele sent me today :).
Amazing shots!! I don't think I've ever seen a hummingbird without the wings going a zillion miles per minute, so these stills are a real treat.
What a beautiful bird, we have them occasionally in VA but I've never seen one at rest like that, what great pictures!
Here from Micheles.
those pictures rocked! Supposedly we have hummingbirds out here in Vegas, but I've never seen one.
here via michele
Michele sent me back, Naomi. I hope to see some hummingbirds this summer, but since I don't have any hibiscus on the deck this year, they may not come around.
Hi Naomi! I just found a blog I think you would like to see. It is LOS ANGELES DAILY PHOTO
I am looking forward to see Betty celebrations's pictures!
What absolutely wonderful pictures! You are very clever and Nature is a wonder!
Wonderful shots Naomi! I am actually fascinated with Hummingbirds since they are like helicopters. They can hover back and forth.
Just got back to the blogging world. Hope you have a nice weekend!
Ooh! How gorgeous! Thanks for posting these pics, they are wonderful. Hummingbirds are such amazing little birds. I can only imagine what a thrill it was to be able to photograph this little fellow!
I'm amazed at how many great shots you got of this little bird. I've been planting bushes and flowers for two years that are supposed to attract Hummingbirds, but I haven't seen one yet. *sigh*
Oh I so look forward to your little birdie moments. Lovely. And Miss Betty's Birthday Party was lovely. Send her well wishes from us in Northern California.
