more spring things!

You know it is spring when you see lots of Morning Dove couples...here above, these two are having a little bath on the top of the waterfall down below in my garden. Do you think the puffed up one is the male or the female....?

And then we have this lovely one, sitting on eggs I believe, and here it is only May 3rd.... This is a pretty safe place...a window ledge that is pretty protected...It is right under the roof of the house, near my garage....It used to be more protected when that big Ingens was there...You remember that huge beautiful green Euphorbia that got a bad disease and was dying, and so we had to cut it down?

Then we have this ancient looking fellow...taking the sun as is his way....I love that he is kind of looking right at me...
But in reality....he is talking to this little buddy of his....I think they are discussing the weather, as all Lizards do when the winter is over and Spring is upon us.... Isn't that rock he is on just beautiful? These rocks are called Rainbow Rocks and I have them all over my garden....Upstairs and downstairs....And the Lizards love them, too...He sure looks pretty on there, doesn't he?

And this dear little person below...Well, isn't he just in Hoggity Heaven drinking in the beautiful sweet necter of these small dense delicious flowers....This was taken just at the foot of the first landing in my garden down below, where a beautiful Euphorbia was just lush with yummy flowers.... And speaking of delicious flowers...here below is a beautiful close-up of some Euphorbia flowers, on a plant that I put just across the street, (upstairs, of course...) where it is just a hill....in fact all the plants of this nature that are over there...I put there. It makes it so much prettier and the property owner who's house is way above, doesn't mind at all....in fact I think he is happy that improved the look of his land....It's what I see when I come out of mt house and it sure pleases me.... Each individual flower here is not even quite a half an inch in diameter....If I could blow this up more without it getting totally out of whack, I would...but for now, this will have to do....I think these flowers are so amazing...But in truth, I think that all the flowers on Cactus and Cactus related plants are quite extrordinary....

And last, but not least....here is a close up of some Lantana flowers, (also across the street...I call it my 'extended garden'....)...talk about delicate and beautiful...the colors alone just make me swoon.... Yes indeed...Spring is Springing like crazy, even here in Los Angeles....

More To Come....

Are those lizards found just outside? Not your pets? I kind of don't like the looks of them but maybe that's because we'd never gt them up in Canada!
We are slowly having spring unfold!
I like your idea of "extended garden"! I have one too!

Oh the beauty of Spring. One of my little mourning doves flew right into the window and broke its little neck yesterday. I hate it when that happens!

Loved your photos...they are cheery this morning. Yes I survived the night alone in the country!

Spring is beautiful, Naomi. I've been seeing a lot of morning doves here also but haven't gotten any pictures of them. Your ancient fellow isn't something I've ever seen around here and that's unfortunate--he's quite photogenic.

I *LOVE* the lizard pics, when I have the chance I watch them running around on our fence, bu its hard to get them to sit still for very long! I also love the lantana color, ours are finally in bloom, but no purple. Maybe I should put that color inthe back yard.

I love how you turn you photos into a children's book. I can feel the peace and joy of a simple spring day by reading this and looking at the pictures. Very well done. Well done indeed.

Naomi - your photography puts me to shame - as you will see!
I think it must be the male who is puffed up.
Your fauna pics are extraordinary - how do you get then to stay still?
It's a puzzle :)

I was just thinking about the abundance of wildlife in your garden. You have the birds, insects (including that little green chap), and of course the deer and that wonderful bobcat! Marvellous. I love to watch the bird visitors to my garden. I used to have a resident hedgehog but he got run over last year :(

Michele sent me to admire your pictures again.

Your Mourning Doves are SO pretty. I have some in my yard also and I enjoy watching them bathe in the fountain.
I'd love to say I think the puffed up one is a male...ie: ego. But I bet it's probably the female ie: indulging in too many calories..lol
Love your Lantana. I have some in my front garden and the scent and fragrance is SOOO nice! You can smell it from the driveway.
Happy weekend to you, Naomi.

The Lantana grow here too... they are just beautiful. I do believe the mourning dove with the puffed up chest is the male.... just like a man; see a pretty girl? Suck in the gut.

Hi Naomi, such great photo's thank you again for sharing. Things are just starting to blossom here two weeks ago, we received 18 inches of snow. They call that poor man's manure. And the grass is really growing, now because of all the water and now we have had sunshine, for several days in a row, most unusal for my neck of the woods. But we will take it. Need to get the lawn mower out this weekend for sure. Have a great weekend. pat

In a garden so lovely where a pair of mourning doves appear peaceful and content, surely they have found the perfect nesting place.

I can practically hear them cooing, and wish I could be outside right now to enjoy whatever show is happening in my neck of the woods.

You capture such beauty with your lens and your pen, Naomi. It's something that I'll keep with me - in mind and on the memory card that I'm dropping into my PalmPilot - as I take off for China. Gotta keep inspirational creations close by, after all.

The simplest things in life give me the greatest pleasure. And your "spring things" do too.
I love the haunting sound of mourning doves and am surrounded by them where I live; as well, a cardinal is nesting in the tree outside our kitchen. Every time I see him/her?, it makes me smile.
Today I had a beautiful encounter with a Canada goose and her family -- you can see my blog for that.
Thanks for the continal wondrous photos, Naomi...or should we call YOU "Mother Nature"?

Hi N! Haven't been by in a while... Michele sent me today! Awesome photos! Reminds me of my time in West Hollywood. I must get back down there to enjoy the beautiful, and different, spring-like things you are currently enjoying!

I'll actually be down in about a month to deal with some radio personalities and marketing... So, hope some of that is still around, then!
