more birds

Sometimes one is just lucky to catch a moment like this, and have it be in focus....(That's the luck part.....lol....) Like this sweetie above....The light was perfect and so was he.....

Then, we have this next one.... Another lucky one, as far as I am concerned...Lucky that I was able to get so close without this sweet bird flying off the nest....I felt very humbled, too, by the trust this dear Dove gave to me.....

And the picture above, searching for seeds, and finding them.....There was a mate nearby, but I didn't get a picture of them together....I love this bit of green from some flowers that is right near him....

And here below, another Dove, on that wonderful waterfall sculpture down below.... I love that all the birds come and bath and drink here....On another day, I captured this pair sitting and bathing..... Being this close to this pair was wonderful....I find that if I just sit quietly, slightly hidden, if possible, they don't respond to the whirring and clicking of the camera....And that makes for some interesting pictures....

And here below are two finches....at least I think they are finches...they too enjoy the water in pairs and sometimes by themselves, as well....
Here below is one of my favorite photo's of a bird getting a really good bath....and a wonderful drink of water, too.... And....then we have a little Finch, captured by the lens, while sitting on some eggs in a nest made in the crook of an arm of a Euphorbia Amak Veriegated..... And just to show you that the Hummingbirds are everywhere in my garden...taking a rest as needed....here is another little darling.... And though it is not the sharpest picture around...one can see a bit of color on this dear litttle male...And I'm hoping that when it is not so hot and when the air is not so bad I can go on down into my garden and get a lot more pictures of all the birds, but especially some more pictures of the wonderful special Hummingbirds....And if I do, you can be sure, you will be the first to know....

More To Come......

Your bird photos are so wonderful! I know how hard it can be to capture a good shot because my first film job included work for Oliver Griswold, the Audobon Society's leading hummingbird expert. But......
(lecture to follow)
Naomi! Stay INDOORS! The fire has blanketed the whole basin with just the kind of ^$%##&** that are the hardest on dainty, nude lungs! I assume you have both a hepa-filter and charcoal on your a.c. If you have an electrostatic unit too, call your cleaning lady in to scrub-a-dub-dub the plates, since they will clog very quickly.
Your little friends outside would probably appreciate extra water, and if you have misting gear, it would help keep the air in little hollows clean. Get SOMEONE ELSE to go down in the back "40" to do this! Hopefully, the cute black cat is at home in her own a.c.
You are our treasure, our inspiration and all that jazz. We want you to last a long, long time---even if your lungs shamelessly cavort without their "cillia" clothes. So, stay off the deck!

This post is for the birds!

:) tee-hee!! I crack myself up!

I knew the answers to the movie quote you left.
I left another one that I'm certain you'll know. It's from a famous classic movie, and that is certainly YOUR forte.

I need to get a bird bath and some feeders. I want to draw some more cardinals my way.

I can't imagine you EVER taking a bad picture Naomi!! These are truly wonderful and I never get tired of your pictures. Never! I love the doves and you sure did get some great shots of them. I love that water feature. I wish I had something like that. I feed the birds but I don't have any water feature for them. Of course the lake is just over the hill, but still......it's so nice to watch them. The one you have is just perfect!! Love how the finch built his nest in the crook of that plant. It's amazing the places they find to put nests at!!

I love humming birds. They are dainty and gorgeous... We have a little bird in this corner of the world called a Sun Bird (I think) which is smaller than the hummingbird and soooo cute!! Your photos are wonderful and I love the bird bath. Nice. Hope you are okay...

I haven't seen any mourning dove nests here but there are baby Canadian geese aplenty and we have a robin sitting on three eggs. They have decided to make it more difficult for me to get pictures this year.

What awesome photos, Naomi! You have outstanding ability with a camera and nature.
I loved all of them, but I'm especially fond of the doves so I loved the one of the couple.
All of it brought a smile to my face. Well done.

I found your blog when I googled Katy Melody, an old friend from San Francisco State U. counseling department. I "lost" her in Southern Calif. some years ago & would love to find her again. Could she be your friend Betty Parks' daughter-in-law?
If so, would you kindly tell her that Marjorie says hello & please email MKEWBIRD@aol.com. In any event, I really enjoyed your blog with gorgeous photos & all.
