bees

This is one of the many many bees that were having a lovely snack on this Euphorbia the other day....The plant was overloaded with beautiful little yellow flowers which were wide open at that particular moment in time.... These flowers are very very small....each flower is no bigger than a large pinhead....So, when the bees come, they are all over these very beautiful yellow necter filled cups..... And then below, you can see three of these buzzers just supping away all at the same time.... I guess you might say these flowers attracted a mini swarm...lol.....here below is one as he was buried in the necter...... I kept snapping away, taking picture after picture, and hoping to catch as many of these bees having their afternoon snack as possible.... I think I did pretty well...but the bees made it really really easy...there were so very many of them..... And though one might say it was a feast for them...it was, to my way of thinking, a true feast for me, too..... And there were more..... And more..... And then two more bees, having their fill, so to speak..... And then a few days later...the flowers are almost closed up and the bees are not swarming anymore..... Nothing like being in the right place at the right time.....

More To Come......

What wonderful photos Naomi... You're close ups are amazing. And you're right, nothing like being in the right place at the right time. Don't you love it when that happens?

Here from Michele's today :).

What a great series of pictures; I especially loved how you ended with the pic without the bees.

You were pretty brave to get close to all those bees. I guess they were busy, but still . . .I especially love the photo where you've actually caught the bee in the air and the wings of the bee in motion.

Hi. I love bees. Nice shots. Very nice. My dad was a beekeeper for many, many years.

Re: Jerry Falwell. No offense taken. I'm pretty sure that few, if any, people agreed with me. That's ok. I was NOT a fan of his myself. So, again, no offense taken. Thanks for stopping by, and please stop in again.

What wonderful photos of your hard working friends! Bees play a vital role in keeping our plants genetically healthy. "I think that I shall never see, a q-tip (used to artificially pollinate) as lovely as a bee." (lol).

when I was little I would pick some clover flowers and put them in a jar.. then I would catch honeybees with a jar and put them in there. There were holes in the metal top so they wouldn't suffocate... I'd watch them for a while and then set them free...
I thought all of this just from seeing your honey bee photo's! Fantastic as always !!

You are lucky to have so many bees. We had some kind of virus that killed a lot of our bees here and surrounding states. The local papers have had to run articles begging people not to kill any honey bees, etc. in their yards- not to confuse them with wasps and hornets. We have to have bees and many of our local honey producers have no bounty this year. It is sad.

I love your pictures!

Good Morn, OL, thanks for sharing the bee's It is a little scarry, around here as a lot of the local bee's are missing althgether from their hives, and it is at this point unclear as to why. For us its very important that they are here my husband is a vegtable grower, and with out bee's he would not have a very good year, as well as the delightful, honey, they produce, and its a commodity, that sells very well in our parts of this country. YOu know the life cycle. AS well as my husband feeds, deer, rabbits, woodchucks, racoons, rodents, and various birds, with what he plants as well, we have now fenced in about and acre and 1/2 to keep some of our dinner guests out until invited:)NYS.

Wonderful photos :) I had taken a couple of bee photos myself, but I'm always afraid of being stung (having been stung by a wasp many years ago).

I like to jump at the chance for a good feast myself.
You captured some good shots of those busy bees.

I like bees.... Bumble bees are my favourites though... Do you get the big fat guys over there?

I've never been afraid of them - nor wasps. They usually leve you alone if you leave them alone... Though wasps do seem always to be in a bad temper...! [grin]. Best to give them room and respect!

Bees are fascinating little buggers aren't they? :-). I really get a kick out of watching the big ole bumble bees we have around here. They follow me around buzzing in my face watching everything I do. They remind me of a dog or cat....
Well except the bees fly of course *giggles*.
Lovely photos:-).
Have a great evening!

They love the lantanas and the daisies.

I'm getting pollinated myself over at my place.

I've been very concerned about the reports that the bees are disappearing and dying in large numbers.

I love all the yellow color here, like rich honey!

Good Tuesday morning Lady !
How are you feeling today ?
Beautfiul capturing of the bees feeding and he flowers blooming ! You were brave to get so close to the bees ! I have been reading something about the bee population being coniderably less this year tan last, and it causing concern to the farmers, who need them for pollination.
Clearly, that isn't an issue in your garden !
Blessings to you --
