views-night & day

"Night And Day.....You Are The One....."

That's what Cole Porter said, in his beautiful song of the very same name....and he was talking about a person....I, on the other hand, am talking about a view......Yes, a view---The View, from my home, looking at Downtown Los Angeles.....Here below, is 'day' of the same view..... Well yes, it's a little bit of a wider shot....But the point is...It's what I can look out at and see, during the day, from my deck. It's what keeps me "alive".....The particular day that this picture was taken was quite clear, and though the rain clouds were looming, the rain that had come and gone and cleared out all the crap that usually just sits their in 'the basin', was gone. Here below, another picture showing the crap that is too often in 'the basin'...Oy! Good Lord! This doesn't really help my aleady compromised lungs. But in all truth, I cannot imagine living anywhere else on this earth at this point in my life....So, I work around it. Being able to look out and see the world around me no matter how bad the air looks, is more important to me than I can express.....Being able to photograph the world that I see, and share it with all of you---well, this keeps me alive, too..... Well, this actually looks like somebody painted it, doesn't it? It looks unreal! But, it isn't. This is the beauty that I see a lot of the time when I look out at the city that surrounds me here in my sanctuary on the hill. Just look at those gorgeous beautiful clouds....there really is a higher power my friends. Call it whatever you will...it is so much bigger than us. Bigger than anything we can describe with words. If there is a God.....this is it, right there in the middle of the sky....the light that comes through the darkness...this has got to be God...It certainly represents hope to me....I love this picture....Dusk here in Los Angeles, looking south towards Playa Del Rey. That street in the middle is of course La Brea Avenue....

Here below is another view of this main street on a day that was strangely overcast and rather earily so.... And of course it is a closer look at the traffic that is a constant on that well traveled street. And here below is one more 'night' shot of La Brea, with that constant traffic no matter the time of 'day' or 'night'..... And then, as you can see in the picture below, here is a wonderful 'night' shot of that newly finished renovated house down below me....It is lit up like this every night and I must say, it looks most inviting and festive..... And staying with Mr. Porter's song....Here below is the 'day' shot of this same lovely house.... Yes, this shot is slightly further away than the 'night' shot. That house way over to the left of the picture by the way was owned by Jack LaLaine for years and years and years....in fact when I first moved to my house back in 1964, he and his family were living there....

Oh, there will be...

More To Come......

Note: I have been having a blogger problem. On some blogs where I comment, when a person clicks on my name it doesn't take them to my profile, and it says that my profile is not available. I've been into my settings three times and that particular setting is checked so that my profile should show....Anyone have a clue as to why that might be happening and what I can do about it? Also, I have to fill in all my information each time I comment on certain blogger blogs...I believe both these 'problems' are somehow related to the"new" blogger which I still have not switched to....I welcome your ideas about all this, and thank you in advance......

Amazing how the same scene caught at different times of the day or night can change so much. Beautiful photos and you certainly do have a masterpiece there, right before your eyes to constantly enjoy. It's so nice to know you truly "see" all of it and then share it with us.
Those clouds did resemble a painting.

Tinsel town! The photos look a bit like science fiction to me and it is compared to my reality here! I love to look at pools down below when I'm up in an airplane.

Thank you.

Very nice photos and I like the fact that you can see that wonderful view everyday. Lucky you!

I also noticed your blogger problem since I tried to click on your link. Probably it is just a problem with Blogger and things will just come back to normal.

I don't know about your commenting problem. Hope someone helps you with that one Naomi!

I believe as Kendra does about God. Look around at this world and the intricate details put into humans, animals, and everything...well, it's amazing to me that people don't believe.

Your pictures are wonderful as usual and it's really true that LA never sleeps does it?? When I see those pictures I think of all the people down there and how many there are in that one city and how many washers/dryers/fridges, heating/air conditioning units, water heaters, and all the other things that people are using are all busy working for so many, and all the activities going on! Quite amazing to think about it really and that's just one big city! Kind of boggles my mind but that's not hard to do though!! :)

Thanks for the great photos! I was better able to make out the house with the pool this time. That's a neat house! It does look cheerful and inviting and the pool looks nice and cool and inviting as well!

I don't know why all that stuff is happening with your blog/blogging -- but I do know that I can't add you to my reader feed -- and yours does something "different" than the OTHER ones that I can't add. Yours wants me to choose between several blogs that have your SAME url -- but none of them are yours! Don't ask -- it baffles me!

As for your post -- I LOVE those night shots! That city is just sO alive! And of course, the pictures of the traffic are certainly prettier at night! LOL! The skyline is beautiful ANY time ... day or night! And if that pool lived just down the hill from ME, I'd have to find a way to get myself invited INTO it! ;)

I have some HOPE on my blog today too!!!

Michele sent me over Naomi. I've been showing your pictures to my girlfriend for the past 20 minutes. They're so impressive.

I love that picture of the house below you. It just amazes me the terracing of the properties above and below you--and of course your level also. I remember pictures you've shown of the supports under the front of your house. Wow.

I find it amusing to hear you talk about the traffic on LA streets, Naomi, because I know it can't be that busy. You see, on that show 24, the streets of LA are practically empty anytime it's dark. LOL

I live in SW Virginia & have beautiful mountain views to look at every day, I'm not from here so I still see them anew every day I get up.

You're one of the few people I know who can capture the magic of a distant landscape shot and make me feel chills down the base of my spine.

There definitely was some kind of supernatural involvement in those clouds. I often flippantly refer to it as God piercing the sky.

Wow only begins to express how I feel after seeing these, Naomi.

BTW, I'm getting closer: I'm San Francisco-bound at the end of the month.

Naomi, I love all your pics, but the nighttime shots are outstanding!

I am having some of the same problems you mentioned - and I HAVE changed to the new blogger. I still have to sign-in on my old blog before I can moderate comments or post on the new one. I have to fill in all info on some blogs, like you. I don't know what the answer is, and I am increasingly frustrated by it.

Naomi, sometimes when that happens, it is something with the address. Maybe an extra character stuck in or someone doesn't have the little "." before the word blogspot in the address.

Fabulous!
I enjoyed your pictures!
I also enjoy the way your view from the hill impacts your life. Your pictures make me feel like you are the eagle up in the nest looking over in awe at the valley below. You have a wonderful view. Thank you again for sharing your world with us. The city is so alive! My surroundings are very different from yours and the contrast makes viewing your pictures all the more wonderful.
I don't know how you have held out on the old blogger for so long! I thought I was the last one to switch over.. There were so many bloggers who were not able to comment on my blog. When I switched to the new blogger my commentors came back. I had all the same problems that you described until I made the switch. The new blogger is the same as the old blogger. I didn't have any issues with it at all but that may be because I waited so long to switch that they had the system de bugged by then. The biggest bonus is that when I download pictures they are lightning fast. I love that new feature. The only downside that I have with the new blogger is when I initially log on the "remember me box that you check" does not remember so I have to type my username and password. Once I am in I don't have to do it again. I hope that there is a commetner out there that is more computer savvy than me to help. I can only explain what I did.
Have a wonderful day!

I have no idea how to resolve your current blogger troubles. I hope someone with some knowledge in this area has been able to help you out.
I would most certainly get an F in overall computer knowledge if I were graded on the subject. :)

I enjoyed the various views, Day & Night.

The renovated home below you looks so nice, especially at night. The lighted pool is beckoning me to jump in for a quick dip.
I wonder if they'd mind it if I jumped the fence and went for a swim?
They'd have me arrested and handcuffed for sure!!

I'm glad that your wonderful view infuses you with life and joy. Keep sharing it with us!!

Today, I was hurt badly. Not physically but emotionally. Really really hurt. Thought of visiting some sites that I usually do to appease my feelings and your photos did some good to me. There is nothing better than a 'view' to brighten your day - that I certainly agree with. It lifts your soul and puts you in good spirits...well, that's what it does to me! I don't have much of a view at the moment from my balcony but we are moving next weekend and I will have a lovely view...of course, nothing like yours but a lovely view all the same. When we lived in Melbourne a year ago, we had a wonderful view of Melbourne city but it still doesn't compare to yours! how lucky you are.

Lovely pictures and interesting to compare the different lights. I know one of the reasons Hollywood became a big film place was becuase of the wonderful light, so it is quite interesting now that there can be so much variation.

I did notice that blogger hiccup on your blog about a week ago, but like most of your regular readrs, my computer has remembered your address anyway,

I converted to new blogger a few months ago and it all went without any problems, just a wait for about five minutes whilst it did its clever things. My blog has a few twiddles too and evertything has worked without any problems.

And I notice for the next few weeks we are only seven hours apart instead of eight, with your new daylight saving, Our British Summer Time is still weeks away!

Best.

I've been having problems when I try to leave comments on Blogger blogs; it's awful! I think since Google bought it, they really screwed it up good.

The pictures, gosh, they seem to bring back a ton of memories. That top picture is so beautiful. I always look @ pics like that & wonder about all the lives in it.
My favorites are the pictures with the clouds & the sky so black at the top. I like it when I see that here, but you have a wonderful view to add to it.
The pic of the smog, in the 70s it was much worse, wasn't it? Gradually our air out here is getting bad again, we're getting more & more "smog days".
These are among some of my favorite pics. I wish we'd get those dark clouds today, this 90 degree stuff sucks!

Your view of L.A. is just spectacular! Thanks for sharing those photos.

FYI, I, too, have had problems getting the correct blogger name to automatically appear on just some blogs when I want to make a comment, though previously I never had that problem on those blogs. In fact, on one I commented on one post and the info came up appropriately, then without leaving the blog, I went to another post, and the problem was present. Another blog, in France, suddenly requires I type in all my info all the time. She has checked and all is well on her end.

This all started AFTER Blogger forced me into the New Blogger by not giving me access to my old blogger suddenly one night when I went to make a new post. Other than this frustration described above, everything else seems to be working just fine. Don't know if anyone experiences the input problem when they come to my blog, or not. Whatever the problem, I'm convinced it has to be Blogger/Google as I had not changed my input and carefully checked I was providing the necessary exact data.
