I am just now getting around to our "Ladies Who Lunch" posts.....We were celebrating Seemah's Birthday and Kim's Birthday, though their Birthdays are quite far apart---I chose a date somewhere in the middle........
It had been a year since the last LWL Celebration, which was for Seemah & Kim's Birthday's in 2010......It seems impossible that it had been that long, but, indeed, it had. Below....there is darling Kim.....
Seemah had picked her up to bring her to the celebration.......And Seemah had also picked up Annie Guilbert.....A real treat, because Annie did not make it to my Birthday Celebration, back in June......
In this year....many things have changed....Annie uses a Wheel Walker, and, as you all have seen, so do I......The wonderful Bridget Hanley greeted Annie like her long lost sister....it was really sweet and funny too.....
And dear Lee Meriwether greeted Annie like her long lost sister, too.....I love these women...I truly do.
We all have so much fun together and we were all genuinely happy to be with one another......Lee was out of town for my Birthday Celebration, judging the Miss California Pageant under the auspices of The Miss America Organization.....
Even with our Wheel Walkers, we have fun....! So, there below is Bridget and Seemah and Lee....(And Annie and me and Kim---not in this picture......)....
And below, sweet Lisa Zarowen---Seemah's good friend---and our dear Dianne Travis.......
We had some lovely appetizers to start off our pre-lunch gathering.....There was of course, Crudites with a dip, and some Marinated Tofu that was deee-licious!
And this Fantastic Cheese, called Le Delice de Bourgogne, by Lintet.....Oh My, My, My.......
It is like a Brie, but---if you can believe it---Better! It actually says 'Triple Creme' on the box.....And it is the smoothest creamiest yummiest cheese, ever.....!
One of the great things about these Wheel Walkers, besides the fact that they take the pressure off of 'what ails you' when walking, is---you can sit on them, too....Above, Annie sitting on hers......! Then, it was time to go to the table........
I had had this idea about toasting our dear departed, and so very very missed friend, Betty---this being the first 'Ladies Who Lunch' since her death on February 12th, 2011....(I just didn't have the heart for it, till now......).......
So, I put out some special glasses---for Champagne and/or for Sparkling Apple Cider----Some of us drink, and some of us don't.....
I thought, this way, everyone can participate in this "toast" to our beloved friend, whether with an alcoholic beverage or non-alcoholic beverage........And, everyone warmed to the idea more than I can say.....
I don't remember what I said---but I know it was heart-felt and every one of us was feeling the same way......
We miss you Betty....and we know that wherever you are---up there in Heaven----you are brightening up everything around you with your loving presence, just as you always did when you were here with us, my dear sweet friend.......
Bon Voyage, my dear......We are thinking of you and we all miss you more than we can put into words. As Joyce Van Patten said, right after Betty died...'The World Will Never Be The Same'......So Very True.....But, we press on, and this lunch was a ''Celebration".....So.....here below, is a picture of our actual Lunch........
The 'Original' Cobb Salad---Just the way it was made at The Brown Derby for many many years---in fact, as it was made for many many decades....All the 'original' ingredients, finely finely chopped and as yummy as can be...! With, my favorite---Croissants and Butter.....lol....Yes, Butter.....!More To Come..........
You do have so much fun! I love the chocolates in the glass top hat! They look great!
How nice to toast Betty too. I would have gone for the Champagne because it's my favourite drink of all time! But I would pass on the cheese I'm afraid. The salad looks lovely and healthy too.
I love to see you Ladies Who lunch posts so much. :)
You always have the best luncheon menus.
BTW, I ran across an internet photo of Ms. Meriweather as "Catwoman" in the Adam West "Batman" TV series. Very cool.
Cheers.
What a yummy menu and having that special toast was a sweet idea. Another good thing about those walkers (well, the one a friend of mine has, anyway) is that you can stash things under the seat compartment!
Doesn't seem possible that it has been a year. We have to slow this time thing down.
That cheese sounds like something I would love.
Perusual a lovely bunch of ladies. You all always look so put together.
Yes--"More to come"-- definitely is your three words. Looking forward to the next post.
what a fabulous bunch of ladies who lunch you all are - gorgeous!
and lee meriwether! i have always followed her career - who could possibly forget her CATWOMAN - she IS catwoman - magnificent!!! as beautiful as always -
what a pretty table set for your lunch - now, i have to try that wonderful cheese you praise - better than brie? be still my heart - thanks so much for the intro to it - oh, and i confess - i also love butter on croissants! especially soft creamy real butter - yum -
thanks so much for sharing the lovely occasion - with thoughts of your dear betty!
have a great remainder of your hollywood day there, dear lady!
I always enjoy your posts, but especially the "ladies who lunch". Those precious moments with friends and you make it so festive. Chapeau, dear Naomi, chapeau.
Hiya NAOMI!!!!! I missed Seemah's Birthday??? So so so sorry...just logged in today and wow what a great surprise.
Please let her know that I am sending belated Birthday wishes to her.
How are you my dear friend, lots of catching up to do and sending cheers from Singapore you...MUACK & BIG BIG HUGS!!!!
Good evening Naomi!
The summer heat is finally abating in Phoenix and the evenings and especially the mornings are delightful again. I am taking a break from watching "Sullivan's Travels". I have never seen a Veronica Lake film. LOVE that hair of hers!
I also love these pics of your LWL. I get a real good look at my adolescent crush, Bridget, who again looks awesome and the gorgeous Lee. I checked out, "The Courtship of Eddies's Father", from the library and I watched it 4 times. It must have been one of Lee's first roles. She's Glenn Ford's secretary and has maybe 3 or 4 lines. All of us remarked how skinny Lee is in the movie. Seriously, she is like a size zero in this film! What a beauty she is. I always liked her looks. Very beautiful, but her beauty is intelligent and warm.
This is so cool that you ladies stay so close. You, my dear, look fantastic.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
I hope that this finds you well. Sending you love and light,
Stan
hooray, and happy birthday to Seemah and Kim!!
it really has been a long time for the ladies that lunch..but then again maybe that's what everyone needed so you could miss Betty without it being the whole soul of the get together.
As before, everyone looks so well, even if walkers have been added! I even see behind you with your toast glass, a "sweetie tree" :o) that added sweetie to the party for me! lol
thank you as always for sharing your good times with the ladies..after so long I feel I know them all...but you most of all.
I will look forward to more photos!
Dear Naomi,
I love seeing your Ladies Who Lunch post so much!
How lovely to toast to dear Betty! I know how you and your friends miss so much Betty...
The menu looks delicious and the atmosphere of the Lunch sounds very nice and agreeable too.
Thanks for sharing this precious moment of your life.
I wish my friends lived close enough so we could do this. How nice.
Everyone is so beautiful and the smiles are high wattage -- a testament to the wonderful time everyone is having! Plus, the food! Oh my. :)
As usual, Naomi, all I can think of is how much I would like to be there with you and your friends!
I raise my glass to your dear friends who are still with you and to those who have passed. I've always loved the beauty of your LWL gatherings. Long Live The Lunch!
An excellent idea to make it a celebration of Betty. She wouldn't want long faces and the toast is the cherry on top - TT or no.
You all look well and happy and who wouldn't with that beautiful flower decked room and as for the food - I'm salivating and the best is yet to come I've no doubt:) Love the look of those goodie bags.
You are all looking good. I bet it was nice getting together again in the afternoon.
Your ladies who lunch posts always make me smile. It's wonderful to have those beautiful, long lasting relationships and to celebrate them. Beautiful.
Looks like a wonderful celebration! And the ladies see gracious and elegant. Good food, good company, good times--a winning combination.
Cheers!
You remind us how important and wonderful it is to stay in touch - and do it well.
I read your beautiful post on Marlene Dietrich and loved it. I also admired your beautiful bouquet of flowers for Ladies who Lunch with the unusual white flower.
Your post on remembering Bill Hunt was very touching. I also tried to find out about someone who passed at that time. One person in our corporation was on Flight 77 which crashed into the Pentagon. He had re-married in May but because of work they could not go on their honeymoon then and had waited to leave until Sept. 11. They were flying to Los Angeles then connecting to a flight to Hawaii for their honeymoon. So very sad.
At the Lady who Lunch that Cobb salad with croissant and butter…. looks delicious! I am pleased that you had this great lunch with your friend.
Good morning, Naomi
Another comment from me just to tell you that I really like you in red. It's a good color on you. That was it :)
Much love,
Stan
What fun gathering, happy faces and delicious menu!! Cheers!
Lady of the Hills
You have the coolest life...you know Lee Meriwhether..i remember her as catwoman and she was on Barnaby Jones....I hope when I get a pinch older I am as youthful and spry as you are..zman sends
I love your "Ladies Who Lunch". You titillate us with your beautiful photos of beautiful people, situation and food!
What a lovely celebration Naomi, and when I first started reading I thought of dear Betty not being there and how you would miss her so. So lovely that you had a toast to her! I would love to try that marinated tofu, as I've never had tofu that tasted good! That Cobb salad looks so good!! I'm off to read the second part now. I'm behind as usual!! :)
Oh gosh I love your 'ladies who Lunch' series - I really do. I *love* how you made a toast to your very dear and much missed friend Betty - I am sure she was with you. I shed a tear when I read this post - I know how much you loved her and Betty was always such a hoot during your lunches.
It looks as if you've been having a glorious time with this lunch! I've been studying the makeup of the Cobb salad too. The 'fine chopping' seems like a key part of it. Like 'every part of a Caesar salad should fit on a fork' - only smaller!
I know this is very late but I had to comment as the Ladies who lunch series is always one of my favourite blogs from you, having been lucky enough to have eaten that Cobb Salad I know how delicious it is. So lovely to see you all toasting dear Betty, bittersweet but lovely
