veterans day

Today is Veterans Day. Hundreds of Thousands of Men and Women have fought for this country and that means they fought for us, you and me. They fought for us and they died for us and they were wounded and maimed for us, sometimes in ways we can never really understand or in ways one cannot see, even with the naked eye....I for one am deeply deeply grateful to each and everyone of them and I say, "Thank You From The Bottom Of My Heart"!

We honor each and everyone of them today and every day that we all of us can breath "free" in this country....

Here below is a stunning image, my dear dears. Our President, known now as "The War President".....Every little image that has been included in this 'whole', are pictures of the men and women who fought and died in the current Iraq War. The end result of the artistry of putting these pictures together in this precise way is incredibly powerful.... And we owe a great great thanks to the creator of this 'hits-you-in-the-solar-plexis' piece of Art, Mike Steinbaugh, and even though I do not know him personally, I thank him for creating this incredibly powerful statement on this Veterans Day, 2006.

Remember all our Veterans today from ALL the Wars that this country has fought so that we may continue to have the freedoms that we hold so dear, not the least of which we just excercised a few days ago....our right to vote.....

Bless All The Veterans And Bless All Those That Are Still Fighting Each And Every Day.....

That is a very powerful image indeed. An artist (might be the same one?) did something similar here with an image of Myra Hindley (Moors murderess in the 1960's).

I agree with your post wholeheartedly. It is Armistice Day over here:

A two minute silence is observed at 11am on 11th day of the 11th month because this is when the Great War, or World War 1, came to end in 1918.
But now, this anniversary is used to remember all the people who've died in wars since World War 1. Collections are made and people wear a poppy in rememberance (as the fields in France were littered with Poppies after the war and they represent the red of blood).

We will remember them.

I think this day concerns all involved countries of the first and second world war ! So many lives lost. Bush's mosaic face is really a masterpiece ! I really admire its creator. I have sent it to several of my friends.

Thank you so much for your comments on my paintings. I am really happy when I hear that people like them ! That gives me a "pop" to start another one ! (lol)

My husband, young as he is, is a veteran as well, courtesy of the War on Terror. I will always honor this holiday, knowing that his picture could have been one of those making up Bush's face. Luckily, his is not.

Hopefully, no one will ever forget....

But I think some people need to be reminded of who is making the ultimate sacrifice for power ..... particularly certain nation leaders.

Thank you to all who have made and kept our country free. Thank you for those who have given us the PRIVILEGE to have Freedom, for it is a privilege, not a "RIGHT". Many of our citizens today feel "entitled"... not a good mindset. Thank you to those who enlist in the military, who still feel the call of duty, who still believe in the ideals of freedom.

Remembrance Day here in Canada as well.

We paused for 2 minutes in prayer on the 11th hour as we remmeber them on this 11th day of the 11th month.

"The meaning of their sacrifice rests with our collective national consciousness; our future is their monument."

Hello from Michele.

So glad someone wrote a great post about Veterans' Day! Amen to what you said, and thank goodness we've at least learned from history in that our country is not taking out frustrations on our soldiers when they return from war. My Aunt is in Iraq right now and I worry about her, but I know she's blessed to be in a much safer place then most of our troops. I loved the picture you posted!

Nice to see you again Lady. Michele sent me today.

my grandad was a world war II veteran, so we were always taught to honor and respect veterans. unfortunately, it doesn't seem the norm- they tend to get lost in the fray. great post to honor them!

Not enough is made of Veterans Day. There will sure be a lot more to honor in the years ahead.

I'm not sure what to say, not being American. I do honour my grandfather's contribution in World War 1, and I also honour my father who refused to fight in World War 2, and his friends who also refused to fight, helping to create an environment in which many New Zealanders now think peacemaking is more honourable than fighting.
The art is stunning.

Michele sent me over, Naomi.

This all reminds me of theories of justice from ancients like Plato to Kant to Rawls. Are our actions judged by our intentions or by the results of our actions? It's a tough question and I doubt anyone will ever be able to come up with a global answer. It needs to be viewed case by case.

WW2, Vietnam, Iraq. The conflicts themselves and individual activities within the conflicts. It's all a lot to consider as the holiday of Veteran's Day is upon us.
