My heart hurts also Naomi. What a sickening tragedy.
Hopefully we will finally do something once more about assault weapon control. We had regulations on the books with Clinton but let them expire. These are not tools for hunting unless you are hunting man or little children.
I hope all of us wanting to do something contact out congressmen and women. We do have the power, we just have to use it.
My heart was truly saddened when I heard of those terrible events last Saturday morning (my time here in Australia)...
There has to be something done regarding gun laws and ownership in the USA, what? I do not know, but when innocence is lost, be it like children lost in Newtown or innocent victims otherwise, SOMETHING has to happen!
Back in 1997, in Hobart Tasmania, a lone gunman shot and killed 37 people in Port Arthur... Australia's Prime Minister at the time then moved laws to ban semi-automatic guns, and a stringent licensing regime, which is still in place today. We still have some idiots with guns doing drive-by shootings and so forth, but it was a start, and we needed to start somewhere...
God bless, and may all the victims RIP...
It's so sad, a terrible tragedy, I have no words... From twitter I am quoting Michael Moore: @MMFlint
"The way to honor these dead children is to demand strict gun control, free mental health care, and an end to violence as public policy."
The tragedy is still unfathomable. I cannot stop thinking of all the families who have lost innocent loved ones. While the nation addresses gun laws, at the same time I hope we also do something to address mental illness.
How I wish this sad, awful thing had never happened. I ache so for the families of these children who will not be able to truly celebrate the holidays because of the deep holes in their souls. Yes, mental illness must be better addressed, and gun control and all things that could help prevent such a tragedy.
My deepest sympathy to you, all my American friends and all the people of Connecticut. You are all in my prayers.
I am afraid I am going to have to turn off anonymous comments also! I get more then a dozen a day..everyday! and all spam!
We have made a culture of violence. We will always have those who are mentally ill. We will always have guns. It seems to me the best we can do is love more. Maybe that sounds simplistic, but the most complicated laws and weapons will not end such acts of inhumanity. At some point the killers hated themselves. Only love will ever conquer hate. If you can't love--seek help. If your child can't love or be loved, then seek help. If you can't find love--seek help. Life is short. OH, and I too am having for the first time after years of blogging--spam galore! I don't like making it hard for my readers to comment, but I may have to. 100 on 2 posts in 1 day last week. Peace to all who have been victims of GUN violence. Peace to all those who must war.
It's beyond sad - I want to hug every child I see.
In agreement with everything you wrote. We cannot just get used to this. My 16-year-old brother just asked, "But why didn't they do anything after Columbine? That was kids killing kids."
I agree Naomi, it is only when you see their sweet little faces and you realise that these were little babies. Away from their parents and it must have been incredibly traumatic. I cannot imagine. So very sad.
However, having posted about gun control and having had threats by email I can now see what a polarising issue this is in your country.
I hope and pray that leaders will see that something needs to be done. A small step is better than none. My sisters, who are both teachers, say that they have been practising drills in their schools in case this happens for some years now. It is something that schools all over the world have now to think about. X
It feels me with utter saddness and my heart goes to all the parents out there. I sincerely hope President Obama will put to a stop to ownership of weapons in their house.
My deepest condolence, please.
I'm not a big crier but this has got me going. I can't watch tv right now but am keeping updated online. I see some good signs that gun control action may be taken. I hope we don't let this moment pass without doing that. Making military style automatic weapons harder to get is the least we can do for our kids. It's like, let's stop the bleeding first and then look at all the other problems underneath these horrific events.
Maybe I'm being naive but I really thing this time it's going to be different. I think that some changes are in the wind. That would be the only positive thing to come out of this. If nothing is done, then what kind of place am I raiding my kids in?
It's hard to think about, isn't it? As a culture, I think we believe that violence solves things, that the reaction to pain, indignation, humiliation, is to answer with violence. How to go about changing that? Maybe we stop glorifying the "rebels" and the "rogues" out there and start bringing in the people who do good, who understand the meaning of civilized behavior.

Dear Naomi,
I feel that many things in society are filled with violence...some movies now are unbelivable...the video games, music videos, the behaviour of so called celebrities that do not show young people how to behave as decent human beings...and parents for being way to liberal and even fearful of their kids and let them do as they please. Things will get worse if we as individuals do not do something and by that I mean do not put up with the crap on tv, in movies. stop everything that doesn’t promote a healthy wholesome and happy world...and pass it on...I am speechless beyong measure of what went on in that school and the motive of this young man...i just see him emulating all he sees in the media...combat gear, bullet proof vest, and weapons used for killing people...period.
Naomi, I could write on forever about how angry I am ...I will continue to love, hope, dream, do yoga and make music and try on a daily basis to be a good person...
thanks for entering the Novica Boxing Day giveaway...if you need pressies for someone special you are putting your money in a good place...I welcome all your fine readers to enter the contest too.

A child dying is unnatural.
From unfathomable grief perhaps we can find meaningful solutions that reach beyond the obvious suspect or we won't be better off. We should not forget the lesson taught when we had a major building brought down by fertilizer. The murderers did not care that there were children in the building.
All laws, including gun laws, should be reviewed periodically for efficacy, efficiency, and safety. However, if we limit our search for solutions only to guns, why should we expect better results than those jurisdictions with the most stringent gun laws on the books? I don't know the total statistical profile- but those I am aware of do not indicate the laws have made their citizens safer.
Naomi, thanks for the visit today. I left this comment after yours:
"I have met people who are not particularly good looking, but they have charisma born of confidence. It makes them irresistible! And you should know that I am a woman who has always been a sucker for a pretty face (male or female!)"
Merry Christmas, and I hope your happy and healthy which is the best life can give..

I couldn't keep hearing about the tragedy; it just made me sick to my stomach...and seeing the pictures of all those beautiful smiling faces and imagining what fear and confusion and pain they must've felt in the hands of a lunatic...I just can't think about it. We are living in a crazy world, my friend, and this kind of insanity (having guns at anyone's disposal) is senseless.
I wish you peace and lots of warm and happy thoughts this holiday season, my friend. I am thinking of you and will call you soon.

What a horrible, awful tragedy, Naomi! I had tears on my face when I saw on tv... my heart hurts also Naomi!
My profound condolences to all the families of the victims, the community and the country too.
I think the gun lobby is too strong for anything to shake them.
