birthday

Happy Birthday, Dr. King! What a day this is, my dear Reverend....because you devoted your entire life to the almost impossible task of seeing to it that everyone is truly equal in our beloved country, and you actually sacrificed your life in this impossibly difficult but just cause, tomorrow, we will all witness and rejoice in and be deeply moved by the Inauguration of the First African American President of these United States. And you, dear Dr. King---you played such a huge part, along with many others, in planting the seeds so that we would see this glorious day come....I wish you the happiest of Birthdays, dear Dr. King, hoping that you are resting well in the certain knowledge that so much of your 'Dream' ---the dream you spoke of back in August 1963, has come true.....I thank you with all my heart for being the inspiring visionary that you were, and for never giving up.....ever, ever. Bless You and Keep You, dear dear Martin Luther King, and a Very Very VERY Happy Birthday to you......This was another "B" word and because of the specialness and enormity of this day....it stands alone!

More To Come.......

That was a great post, you said exactly what so many million Americans are thinking. And what a great day it will be tomorrow. I have great hopes for America, I fervently hope that Mr Obama will be able to effect the changes that America dreams of and he will get the support of both the people and the government.
Meanwhile, I shall be watching the inauguration and parades on TV here in Canada with my Red Hat ladies.... a soup and sandwich party to celebrate the occasion!

Naomi, indeed a great man and to celebrate his Birthday. And Tuesday Obama, our country is making history, in a very spectular, and special way. Gives me faith in humanity, wish that I could be there, and there are not many things that would even consider standing in a crowd, like there is going to be in Washington. Am so excited that he will be bringing new hope for our country as a whole. Exciting Exciting time. Has the plumbing fixes been completed?

I am so thrilled to witness this day! I can't imagine what Dr. King would think.
Over the last couple months every time Obama has come on the news, (you know how you sort of forget day to day?) I am flooded with relief, I think, oh yeah! Obama is going to be President! I've never been so excited about a President. I really hope he does a good job

p.s. Naomi,
In response to your comment on my blog this morning - I've reviewed the Hotel-Bel Air twice now in 2008 :)

It is in my 'Los Angeles restaurant reviews' section.
If you click on the drop down list on the right side of my sidebar under 'Reviews', they will show you the link to go to each one.

The environment is as lovely as it ever was with the beautiful gardens, and softly tinkling fountains and gently lit pathways in the evening.

The dining room is so welcoming with its fireplace, nicely spaced apart tables and exquisite flower arrangements.

Service was SLOW however, and very unfortunately, last time the quality of the food had declined somewhat, even though the presentation was lovely with how everything looked.

(and the bedrooms in the hotel are VERY badly in need of a complete renovation and updating, as are the bathrooms !)

I agree that the Chef's descriptions of the menu items sound a bit vague.
It would be nice if they would give you recipes for some of the things, but I think it is a closely guarded secret in most cases, so that other restauarants cannot copy their special dishes !

I'd be much more informal about things, (i.e. calling dessert dessert instead of pineapple upside down gateau with caramel drizzle and home-churned ice cream) but I feel the Chefs would take offense at me simplifying thing too much...

They really try so hard at making things fancy and nice, and I want to give them the credit for it by describing how it is on their menus...

If I was to mainly focus on comfort food, it'd be more like One Pico at Shutters on The Beach in Santa Monica recently, where tomato soup with grilled cheese is tomato soup with grilled cheese !

So... I hope you still enjoy coming to read and visit and drool over what is yummy, even if the decriptions are 'haute cuisine' over-the-top :)

*HUGS*

I share your sentiments completely. You're the third blogger so far that I've seen remember MLK. I did too. I listened to his "I have a dream" speech at least 4 times today. It still resonates.
