I'm having a very hard time understanding how we could have advanced so much as a people so that we actually Elected a person of color as The President of these United States, (Praise God....) but in three states of our beloved country, we have taken away rights and/or denied some people their unalienable rights at the very same time.
Are we really about hatred?
Gee, I thought we were actually about love. Love is what truly matters and love is what can change the world. We proved that on November 4th, and yet......And yet.....these Propositions of Non-inclusiveness and hatred, passed, in three states...These propositions that said...'You are less then, and you don't deserve to have the same rights as the rest of us'....passed, in three states!!!
I find this so very sad and so reprehensible, too.
Keith Olbermann said it all for me. Please watch this video above. It is, in my view, incredibly profound.

He said it ALL and as always, so honestly and so well. I also was astounded that didn't pass in Calif. And I'm ashamed of Florida, but not surprised, due to the mind-set in many areas.
Just shaking my head at the ignorance that still pervades our country, but I will NEVER understand WHY people canNOT just live and let live. Like Keith said, "what's it to YOU?" He was spot-on.

Hi Naomi, I did not watch this video, but guess I do understand, how people are thinking, and will not argue, what the bible says with any one everything is open to interpation. My take on same sex unions is it should be allowed, for convience, there are many same sex families, that have formed a union, for compainion ship, or to help one another, be it children or our indivdual personal needs. But the Bible does say it is a sin. But it is not a greater sin than another say example murder. Its all sin. This is a most diffucult subject for me because, people that I love very much are dealing with this issue daily. Think that civil unions should be allowed regardless if sex is involved or not, that is not anyone's business. But a Marriage is between a man and a woman. For me the key word is Marriage. What am taught, is a sin is a sin, one does not hate the sinner only the sin. And do not forget we all sin,every day and we are also not to judge. Now watch the hate mail. p

P....I must say something to you. The Bilble says lots of things that some people have chosen to NOT believe. There is a laundry list of "sins" that the Bible said was okay....but the majority of people choose to disregard these things because they are against the law. Secondly, The Bible was written by men. Human Beings whi have judgements and beliefs that were NOT in keeping with Jesus, as I understand him. Personally I have never understood how anyone can put such faith in a book, written by MEN that has many many archaic ideas in it. But that's just me.
All one has to do is put themselves in this equation to see how truly prejudiced it is.
I do not see how anyone marrying effects other people's marriage, or the so called "sanctity" of marriage. I just do not understand what the terrible threat is here that The Bible is called in as Witness to this....And as to sins, well....that is a whole subject that could take reams of paper. But let me just say that Killing is a sin, yet we are in an illegal WAR where thousands have been killed.
Where is The Love in this??

Naomi, I certainly agree, with most of what you are saying regarding, the book that was written by men. But what has been explained to me is that faith, in the fact that these men, were directed by god, and more than any thing, I have to beleive that there is a god and he is in control. Aside from, that there are lots of things I also do not understand, like why does God let things happen to children, why would god, let them, get sick and die. Why are so many starving to death. But also many of the things that are wrong with this world that we now live in, is because we as people across the globe, are doing lots of things that are again Gods teachings. And that does include myself. And for whatever reasons we all come with different set of prejudces, tell me why do I find male homosexuals more unacceptable than females, am I trying to reason in my head, whats ok to me, most likely, because I want it to be ok, even if my core belief system knows different. Why are Jewish people god's chosen ones, I was married to one, the man was a liar a cheat and a thief, why would he have been a chosen one. I did not want to enrage you, only to say, that I can understand, what those people are trying to say. p

I totally agree with all you said here and thank you for having the courage to say it. I saw Olbermann the night he delivered his words. I think he was close to tears. It is very upsetting to me also.
It is beyond my understanding why letting gays be married hurts anybody else. It isn't like encouraging them to live a wild and promiscuous life. It's letting them live like anybody else. It is not a choice to be gay. It is also not a sin. The bible is talking about promiscuity in say Romans 1, the fundamentalist Paul's book where he comes down on them but it's not homosexuality but those who are into sex that is almost bestial.
Loving one person and living with them, raising children together, mowing the lawn, having the respect of the community, that is not a sin. The sin has been that it has been stopped in the name of fear. Cruelty has been allowed too long by those who fear for their own lives by their idea of a vengeful god.
It is natural for some animals to be born homosexual and we are in the end bodily animals. My hope is this will change and someday it'll seem as crazy to Christians that they ever bought this line as it was that at one time they saw the Bible forbidding inner racial marriage! I don't think we should be patient about this change either. It's never time to be prejudiced against someone else for their own nature and love is hard enough to find let along to deny it to some because of antiquated religious ideas that aren't understood by most who worry about it anyway.- Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 7:28:00 AM PST

Gay marriage is not the real target of prop. 8.
Fundamentalists of all kinds--christian, catholic, muslim, mormon,jewish (yes, jews too!), gays, and especially humanist and athiest "true" believers want to teach their credo as the only truth not only to their flock, but in our schools to those who are not members.
Fundamentalists are big on "prevent theft--lock your mind" They see nothing wrong with intolerance because they know they're "right". Throughout history these attitudes have been responsible for unbelievable uncivilized behavior.
This prop. should have prohibited favoring one religion or philosophy over another. Instead, they meddled in what is essentially a religious ritual, the qualifications for which are the business of the organization to which the couple belongs.
Technically, under church law, there are no gay catholics or mormons, let alone those who want to marry!
There is actually nothing in the constitution about separation of church and state. That is in a 20th century supreme court decision.
BUT the constitution clearly says that congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of religion, nor that restricts the free practice thereof. Prop.8 is clearly in violation, and will be declared unconstitutional. (fed trumps state)
In the meantime, these fuzzy thinkers wasted millions, stirred up ill will, and did nothing to address the real problem which concerns them.
