There is another video, as well....More circling of one of the Hawks....Both taken on the same day....I am so thrilled I was able to get these Hawks, in action......There is something of a 'dance' to their swooping and gliding about, and it is very relaxing to watch....I could set it to music!
This was almost the last time that I have seen the Mommy and/or Daddy Hawk.....It looks like the baby's are on their own now....The three do still spend time together....And watching them grow is really thrilling.....I am gathering quite a wonderful photographic history of their growing up.....And you will see some of this, very soon....! So here's a little bit of the baby's when they were very very young......And, here below, here are the same three, just a little bit older.......And jumping a bit in time....one more, so you can see how they have grown in a short few days.....I love that you can see their feathers are slowly changing, and I noticed that the parents were always pretty close by....watching over these three, bringing food, and cleaning them, too.....But mostly, the parents are watching over them, making sure that all is well...Their devotion is really amazing and very touching, too....Be sure to click on these pictures to see them bigger......
More To Come........
wow how great Naomi! I wonder if they know that "Auntie Naomi" is helping guard the young? hehehe
Great stuff. You've got the perfect observational perch!
Cheers.
I love watching them soar on the thermals aloft! We see them around here all the time, but not so close as you did. The one that used to live in our woods has moved on to greener pastures, I guess.
You have the perfect vantage point (up in the hills, from a deck, nice and high) to film things for your blog. Oh, how I envy that! LOL
If I had your deck, I'd be out on it all day and night. Lovely photos, as usual.
I think you're living in the tree with them! Great stuff!
I'm still riveted by the memory of the hawk relieving itself....!
Love the photos...and video!
We have Peregrine Falcons nesting nearby, but they are staying in a hotel (ledge). I have been watching the falconcam religiously to see the daily changes of the baby chicks and am excited about their upcoming first flights.
Not nearly as thrilling as being able to see them from my own deck in the trees!
Hi Naomi. Some interesting observations of hawks' behavior pictures and footages. Wishing you lofty, wonderful and happy days.
It's great when they are against the sky and you can see them so clearly. Amusing to hear the police siren as the bird swirled - as if he had his own siren. The chicks are looking very healthy and sturdy.
Naomi, I can't believe how much they have grown....I wonder what their parents bring them to eat. Is it just worms or do they eat grasshoppers, lizzards, and other creepy crawlers? Interesting.
Thank you for sharing the wonderful video clip with us Naomi and I can see the sky is rather gloomy as if it is going to rain ya.
I like to watch birds swoop around. Wouldn't it be nice to be one?
I love watching animals & learn so much from them, especially from the parents. If only we humans were as compassionate as they are.
I've never seen footage like this of a hawk circling over a busy city. It's beautiful, especially the last part of the first video when he gets some serious altitude. Nice job, Naomi!
so lovely. i forget how it was that you discovered that they were in that nest... isn't it a bit of a ways away?
How exciting: both the story, the pics and of course the vid.
I can't believe you have one so close and within your city. I mean, we have a lot of them in Norway, but they are fare out from cities.
Wishing you a great end to your week Naomi :-)
It is VERY exciting to watch the little ones grow up! Here at the botanical garden they have a mating pair of bald eagles that nest each year. Last year they had three eaglets. This year has been at best a "soap opera". Things were on course... three eggs laid and then a female interloper came in and drove the mom away and took up with the male. A cold spell hit and the eggs essentially died. The park service removed them from the nest.
Then the mom came back and drove the rogue female out. She forgave the cad..... (not something I would have done) and they managed to lay another egg.
The eaglet hatched and seemed to do well but they could see a growth on its beak so they removed him and have him undergoing treatment at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. He apparently has a virus called avian pox. His prognosis is still up in the air but he is getting interferon and supportive care right now.
Poor mama eagle... she hasn't had a good year.
Neat videos. I like it best when the background is just the sky and clouds. That way I can really see the hawk float and glide and soar on the wind.
It is wonderful that you've been able to capture those babies as they've grown.
I sure hope you are having a good weekend.
:-)
Awesome post Naomi! I am trying to catch up ..been away as know but also had probs with laptop, Back and full speed ahead!! Always great to read your blog!
Isn't it nice to see nature at work in the middle of the city? We have condors that circle around by my house and I told my son they might all be gone, by the time he has kids.
My, how they have grown! (I sound like someon'es aunt who hasn't seen them for awhile!LOl!) How wonderful to watch these little hawks actually growing up and to be able to capture it on film! As ever, this is a wonderful post and your love and thrill of nature always shines through in your writing.
It's nice watching them soar around. They are probably wondering where all the humans in cars below are going!!
Those babies have sure grown fast!
Wow! How they have grown, Naomi! Looks like a National Geographic Video! Great post!
Many hugs!
People often don't think about predators having mommies/daddies. Very sweet post.
