There are so very many birds around right now. They are everywhere. There are nests everywhere and all the birds are looking for food or scouting for good safe places to build their nests, or bringing food to their already hatched young.
This picture above is a 'close-up' of that first Dove at the top. The look on his face is so quizzical, isn't it? I have a couple of more pictures of him....Now, he was scouting for a safe place to build a nest.
Sitting on top of the Chimney of the house right next door. It is a popular place for many birds to come and sit and survey the land....
There is a spot that many Doves have built nests over the years that he seems to be eyeing....At least that is what I thought he was looking at....It is not as protected as it once was, because the big plant that was there had to be cut down.....
Here is a darling little bird carrying a bit of food to the baby's in a nest that is hidden in this hedge....It's my other neighbors hedge, that sits right at the entrance to her gate....in fact, that is the gate opener that this sweet little birdy has landed on.
A closer look at this dear bird. It was like she or he waited a moment or two before entering the little opening in the hedge before hopping in, making sure it is safe....I couldn't see the nest in there---it was so well hidden...But here below is this Mama just inside the hole in the hedge.
Then there are the Finches....I love Finches...The Beautiful color that shows up on the top of their heads and their necks and breast....Here is one that landed on one of the Red Trees that is just beginning to get it's leaves.....
In a month or so, I won't be able to see any birds landing here because the Beautiful Leaves will cover them and hide them really well....
The leaves are so lush and beautiful and of course cover any little bird who fly's in to rest for a moment....But, for now, I can see the birds really really well.....
I LOVE these little birds....I use to see more of the Finch nests around, but I don't see them very much any more....But I know they are around because there are lots and lots of Finches in the area....They have obviously found some great places to build their nests that are quite well hidden.
He is so very sweet! And of course there are lots and lots of Doves around, everywhere! I have so very many Dove pictures right now.....I love it!
I swear, sometimes I feel like these birds are looking right at me....! It's almost like we are having a silent conversation with our eyes and our inner beings.....It certainly feels like we are communicating.
And one more below.....This guy was just sitting and I believe guarding a nest that I couldn't see from my vantage point...but that is what they do all the time, when they are not looking for food, that is......
He sure is puffed up there, isn't he? Very sweet.
And another view above of that same Dove....Still pretty puffed up....lol...And last but not least...One more, below.
Such a pretty pretty Dove.....! Do be sure to click on all of these pictures so you can see them bigger. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. It is supposed to be 90 here on Saturday and Sunday....! Summer, already? Well.....that is Los Angeles for you....It could be back to the high 60's on Monday.....More To Come.......
beautiful, beautiful, beautiful !!! I absolutely love the birdie photo's!!!..
I believe that one with the food is a mockingbird ? is it not?
doves are so soothing to listen too aren't they?!
Nice, fuzzy head on that little bird. Clicking on the photos does make a difference. How fortunate to have these little guys fluttering around your yard, Naomi. This is what Spring's all about.
It's always a good sign when the birds come back (especially here in Ontario with our cold winters).
It is nice to have your antage point for viewing all the birds, Naomi. By the time I find my camera, our birds have skitttered off again.
Such lovely birds! They must feel at home in your garden, and have no idea you are spying on their day to day activities with your camera!
Thanks for the explanation of "MERDE".... I was foolishly thinking it was one of those annoying acronyms, you know... M E R D E ... for example Make Every Rehearsal Darn Excellent! or Many Early Risings Determine Exhaustion!
BTW a pair of lovely robins are building a nest in a flowerpot in my garden, one egg was laid yesterday! I will be posting pictures soon.
I agree with kenju, I can never photograph birds! your shots are wonderful as always.
It's nice that your garden is a sanctuary for them. Nothing like bird songs to soothe the mind.
Cheers.
Beautiful photos of the birds. I love the doves, the sounds they make. I lay out on deck (one of the few afternoons that it was nice enough) and tried to photograph a pair up in the oak tree. It's not that easy.
great post. They ARE looking at you lOL thanks for sharing..
Hi Naomi....these are fantastic pictures!
The first shot? That bird has an attitude.....a "Cagney" look on his face! He should be chomping on a cigar or something. :)
The birds are back in full force around here too......the robins are building nests under our deck which they do every year. The eggs havent been laid yet, but the Daddio robins are very busy getting it ready.
I will try to capture a few bird shots this weekend, but i'm not great at bird shots like you and Carmi.
what kind of camera do you have?
Love these pics Naomi. We have lotsa "dumb doves" too, altho I love them anyway. They try to build a nest on our windowsill, which slants. The sticks fall. They fly down and pick them up and start over. The sticks fall. They fly down and pick them up and start over. The stiks fall. They fly down.........get it? LOL Poor dumb doves. There are beautiful yellow headed night herons nesting here but I can't get a pic of the babies...too high up in the trees.
It certainly is a busy time of the year for the birds. In the UK, the same activity is going on and I believe I saw a bird fly in under one of guttering of my garage the other day. I waited ages to see if it left again but had to go to work so I'm not sure. I think there might be a nest there there I can't see anything.
Wonderful pictures as ever :) I especially like the one of the little finch clinging to the upright branch of that tree :)
I love the tiny birds! Big birds freak me out because they always look like they could peck your eyes out. Little birds are just cute.
Very nice pix, Old Lady. Thanks.
Your doves are gorgeous. I just love those. We have a slew of them here in our yard. The more I feed them, the more seem to come...lol I think they put the word out on the island to visit my yard.
Ooooh, it's going to be hot in your area. We're just 80 today with no humidity, so it's delightful. Hope you stay cool and enjoy your weekend.

Can't help it, but I'm thrilled
What great pics Naomi! Yea, birds is a great sign of spring!
They are coming back in Norway too and so is the sun as it rise around 5 in the morning. We always sleeps with the window open and often nowadays I wake up when they are singing. A great season!
Wishing you a great end to your week :-)
Hi Naomi! What great reminders of spring! Those birds...so carefree and lovely to look at.
Do have a wonderful week. LOL.
A wonderful collection of birds, Naomi. Beautufully taken.
Michele did NOT send me, but I came from her baseball question to keep the M&G spirit going.
Keep the pics coming; I love birds. I lie in n inner city treehouse(will find pic) and have birds galore.
So beautiful your birds, Naomi!
Those photos transmit to me a feeling of beauty and tranquility!
Thanks for sharing these pictures and brighten my Sunday!
Many hugs to you and to Sweetie too!
Naomi, I just love these photos. Bird watching is a side hobby of mine, wish I had more time for it. That dove is so pretty. Teriffic photos today, I really enjoyed them.
Lots of birds! Great photos! We've got a couple of doves that sit in the tree and occassionally come down to the bird table, along with a few others birds.
My parents just got back today (Sunday) from visiting my brother. They said it was hot weather down there, so I know you are probably inside with the air conditioner blasting.
Those birdies are so cute. The sweet doves and those perky, little finches. I really like the photos of the dove that's all puffed up. It's like he's trying to look a bit haughty. "Look at me!! I'm a big, bad, bird!"
I love all these birdies Noami :D
I love those - especially the finches. Naomi I can't help wondering what your pussy cat does when you are watching the birds?
I saw my first Indigo Bunting at the bird feeder. in that second photo Mr Mourning Dove looks like a Mac Daddy.
I just love all your sweet bird pictures Naomi!! They are all so adorable and so very busy at this time of the year!!
How is dear Sweetie??
The birds are a good sign of Spring...It is a sign of life...I have noticed a lot more birds around my house too and so has my cat!! We also have a lot of bees collecting the pollen from our lagustrums..the smell of those bushes is intoxicating.
Good Morn, Noami. These pictures are great. I am not much of a photo taker, so thankful that you are and so gracefully share.:)
Here in Central NY, we have had the greatest weather for over a week. And to my liking. about 72 to 80 and no humidity. YEA. But all the trees the dogwood, maples are in blossum early, and in all their glory. God really has a splended eye, Today we are being blessed with needed rain. But tonight snow showers. And he has a sence of humor. Have a great week. Pat
I like the finches too, they are such spunky, friendly little birds and ours turn a bright bright yellow so they are just a joy to have around.
It is so wonderful that you provide a sanctuary for these birds. So many people just want a fancy new home and could care less about the wildlife they destroy!
Hey! I'm baaaaack. Did you know I was gone? Just dropping by to tell you "HELLO"
Your finch seems to be a blood brother to our three finches -- orange cap and breast. I am used to seeing them colored red. Pretty, anyway.
Lovely photos of your doves and finches.
The fifth photo down, after the first pics of the doves -- is that lovely long tailed bird flashing white a mockingbird?
I do so like them. I used to have quite a few around here who staked out my area as their territory and were always singing about it to make certain others knew and respected the boundaries. Then, a few years ago, the West Nile Virus seemed to have diminished a number of various species of birds. The Mockingbirds were in that number.
Even now, your photo reminds me that I'm not hearing a mockingbird in my yard this Spring and they should be nesting as yours is. I wonder where they are?
oh, I love all these bird photos! I took this one the other day and thought of you:
