Oh, my LORD! You saw Vegas in the 50's?! What a lucky girl. My head is spinning. I'm jealous. Can you do a post about it? Do you take requests?
Don't really remember Edye Gorme but do remember the name. Maybe because we didn't have a tv til I was half grown. But my grandmother had one and maybe I saw the Steve Allen show there. I sort of remember the dark rimmed glasses. :) Very nice tribute, Naomi.
What sad news to wake up to. Steve and Edyie have always been amazing performers and wow - partners for life. Such a beautiful post and I loved seeing the clip from the Steve Allen Show.
I always thought they were such a romantic couple and were great singers. Amazing that they were still married after all these years.
A great loss.
The video was a real memory trip. Quite a cast.
I don't think I ever heard of her, but I played the clip, she has such a smooth voice and so much of the period.....and charisma.
I remember Edye and Steve on the Tonight Show when I used to stay up late as a teenager. She was just lovely. I was so touched by his comment he released that he loved her the moment he saw her.
You've said good bye to so many people these past few years, Naomi. Much love to you.
I remember the two of them together always..one of those few "forever" marriages both for life and for careers... I can't remember when I heard of either of them last..wow. my heart goes out to Steve being alone after all those years.
Dear Naomi, I am sorry to hear that Eydie Gormé had died... I did not hear about Eydie for a long time...
I will see these videos, thanks for sharing!
Many hugs!
I remember seeing and hearing her on Johnny Carson. I always enjoyed watching good singers even though I'd rather be listening to rock and roll back then. When I saw that she had died I wondered what she had been doing in the last few decades.
I was very sad when I heard this -- seemed like she was on all the variety shows I watched and we had some of her records, back in the day of records. Indeed, she and Steve were a great pair!
I've only heard of her and I'm sorry to hear she passed away recently. She did have a beautiful voice (love the first video) and the second video is so fun and full of incredible talent. It's wonderful to be able to search the internet for all the greats and hear their voices with a few clicks of the keyboard. Thanks for sharing, my friend, and happy Wednesday!
PS - I haven't forgotten about my offering to photograph your backyard...if I can locate it next time I sketch on a Wed night again.
I remember how truly HAPPY they always seemed together, a rare pair. That tribute, wow, I had forgotten what a great singer Dinah Shore was! R I P Another classic.
A very nice tribute!
What a great voice. Another sad loss.
I remember her with fondness also from another era. So much is passing
What a great voice - so clear and true -no frills and furbelows and weren't the dresses great?
I'm speechless with admiration at the group's co-ordination. Singing and walking backwards? Amazing!
I'm old enough to remember her, and to have watched many of those shows. We laugh at the "old days" sometimes, but there was marvelous entertainment then. I still remember so many of the songs, and the thrill of getting our first "stereo" and beginning to collect LPs of our favorites. Such a wonderful post!
My mother liked to play a record where Ms Gormet sang in Spanish on. She told us- listen- when you sing- no accent.
