This is one I'm definitely planning to see. I have admired Bradley Cooper since he was on Inside the Actors Studio and it was clear what a good guy he is. He shed tears on stage about being back at The New School, where he learned his craft. He's a smart guy.
Jennifer Lawrence was so good in Winter's Bone. You are right - all the actors are good. I have to see this.
It is on my saved list at Netflix. So glad to hear it has a happy ending. The trailer made it look very dark and I was doubtful. Thanks Naomi for the great review.
I didn't think it was possible for me to adore Bobby D more than I did but I do
He gets better, and different, and more everything as he gets older
and thank goodness Bradley Cooper is more than pretty and more than good for Hangover movies because I like him
LOVED your comments below about Le Mis
what a shame they had to use "names" for it and missed the chance to be artful
hugs from me and Hope
I definitely want to see that one, but I'll either have to go by myself or wait until it is out on DVD.
Great review and now you have me curious about this film. I hadn't even heard of it but that's not uncommon. I'm always catching old films many months or years later. For goodness' sake, I haven't even seen "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" or "Mommy Dearest!" I've got a lot of films to rent!
anything you say is right on with me. I love your reviews...I probaby said it before but I think you could go pro with these reviews...so spot on...
Thank you for your visit and comment...I hope you are enjoying this trippy weather we are having today....whoo hoo! did you get thunder and lightning up in your hills we did down here in the LB..wonderous.. just got a twenty buck rush seat for Backbeat...can’t wait...love the Beatles in any form...
This is yet another film I haven't heard about, but maybe I'll check it out. I don't tend to be drawn to films about conventional, straight relationships to be honest, but I'll reserve judgment for now until I see it!
I don't think I've heard of this one before. I'll have to check if it's been released here yet.
I LOVED this movie! It made me feel so good when it was over. It gave me a sense of hope. I'm not sure why, but it did. I can't remember the last time I left a movie theatre feeling so good. I hope they all win!
How good is Jennifer Lawrence? Seriously. I'd love to see her on stage. Her and Bradley Cooper should be forced to make movie after movie. What fantastic chemistry.
Top of my TO SEE list!!
I haven't got around to seeing this movie as I wanted to. Jackie Weaver is awesome - a fantastic actress, who at 65 has 'finally' broken it into America. She's been on Aussie telly since I have been a little girl so it was great to see her nominated (again).
ohhh boy ! it sounds like the Oscars have their work cut out for them this year..many exceptional movies to vote for!! I love your reviews of the movies, they need to hire you :o)
I saw this film advertised yesterday, and thought it might be a good one to see. Yesterday I finally got around to watching The King's Speech. Yes, I know it's a couple of years ago but somehow I missed it then. Very good film, i really enjoyed it.
It sounds like an interesting film. I saw Bradley Cooper in Limitless a while ago, which I thought was a very entertaining and quick-fire film about a wonder-drug. Interestingly, de Niro was in that too, as a kind of wheeler dealer.
I'm not sure that we have SLP here yet, but I'll look out for it.
I'm kind of reassured that there's so many good movies in the list you have been reviewing!
My favorite of ALL of them! I hope it sweeps the Oscars. It's an unpretentious film --just good storytelling with a lot of heart, and embraced by the actors who told the story.
I really want to see this now! And I love how Bradley Cooper is working for mental health advocacy now. Sadly, there is real power in celebrity.
This is the most brilliant year for film in a very long time.
It's on the top of my list! Weren't the Grammys fun Sunday night?!
I think you have to redo my blog on your google reader (or whatever it is you use). After it got highjacked my server had to move it so the old link doesn't work but it is still looseleafnotes.com. xo
I have not heard about this movie but it sounds like a winner and I am going to make a note of it. De Niro is one of my favorite actors – he is so versatile. Thanks for the review.
Well, I havent seen it but if you recommend it I know it's wonderful
I am looking forward to see this film very soon, Naomi! After your review, it will be on top of my "must to see list".
Too bad that there is not any movie near my house...
Many hugs.
If I could pick one Oscar film to go see tomorrow, I think this would be it. I've heard lots of good things about it, but most of all a really well written script/story. I hope it fares well.
I just logged on TCM to see that "On the Town" is playing. When Betty came on the screen I was reminded of you and had to stop over to say hi.
Happy day.
I love, love, love the book. I have yet to watch the movie but it is on my must see list. Everytime I was headed out to the theater to see it something happened. I love all the actors involved.
I saw this Naomi and loved it too. My sister has bipolar and so much of it hit home to me. Jackie Weaver is an Australian actress. She is 65 and just making it in Hollywood after a lifetime of treading the boards. I thought her performance was just right too. A great film that had me interested from start to finish and I love happy endings....
I will definetely see this movie, I love both de Niro and Bradley :)
