more bees

This Bee...I swear he has been here before, like for the last two years...And this would be his third year.....How can I tell? The little bit of Orange on each of his legs....! I used to think that was the stuff from the flowers...but, there isn't any orange stuff inside these flowers....! And it kind of looks crusted.... See? Here he is a year ago...Or, maybe it's one of his brothers....I wonder if there are tribes of Bees that all have 'the orange leg' syndrome....? And here another one from a year ago.....It is rather curious, I must say....I will have to do 'The Google'.....(Don't you love when people call it...'The Google'...lol?).....And below, another from 2007..... And then....here is another one from just a few days ago.......He is with another Bee that is not part of 'the orange leg' tribe...... And another angle below....same two Bees...... Hard to know what this is all about...... But I sure do love my Bees.....I think of them as mine because they like all the flowers that grow right here......And I feel like they are visiting me, too, because of that.....Whatever. I'm just so happy that they are still around here on the hill....! Bravo, Bees.....!

More To Come.......

Note: The Planet Mercury is now Retrograde....which means that communication is really really REALLY bad now.
NO IMPORTANT DECISIONS SHOULD BE MADE DURING A MERCURY RETROGRADE....Are you listening Washington??
So...the bottom line is if anything can go wonky, it will! Fair-Warned is Fair-Armed....So, just go to bed and stay there till October 16th.....(Mercury goes Forward once again, sometime on October 15th.....). And the good news? As far as I can tell, there are no more Mercury Retrogrades in 2008!

Nature's most perfect food is honey. It's hard to imagine those little beasties making such good stuff.

Cheers.

I knew about Mercury going retrograde, Naomi.

LOL - maybe that's why McCain wants to postpone the debate??!!

Naomi, that's the pollen from ALL the flowers they've visited! A bit like mixing paint!

Washington never listens, sigh. This proposed bailout plan is a disaster.

Your bee pictures are stunning in their detail, Naomi. The fertility they bring with them is so vital to growing things. I appreciate the job they do even if I'm afraid of their stingers.

You have such busy bees in you yard. Do you have any bee hives in your garden?

Your bee photos are bee-autiful! *lol* The orange legs on the bees is the collected pollen isn't it? It is good that you still have those bees buzzing around the place, doing their thing.

Different shades of yellow is most captivating and yes, I believe the bees family do 'visit' you every now and then :D

Happy weekend Naomi :D

Lovely bees.

And how we dread Mercury retrograde....always happens at a time when we must make decisions, sign papers, or buy stuff (that is almost always defective or doesn't last for some reason)

It's amazing how you capture so much of nature up in those hills. I don't ever get that close to bees, so these close ups are a treat. They are much more beautiful up close and less threatening in photos. I love these shots!

How long do bees live, I wonder? I've never seen one like that.

Washington keeps getting sicker and sicker under Bush. Is this what smaller government gets us? A free for all. Remember McCain consistently votes against regulations like most Republicans and now that's all he can say.

If that orange legged bee is coming back year after year, I'm surprised you haven't given him a name yet!
The bees have been very busy in my garden recently. I suppose they are making the best of the last warm sunny days before the fall rain and wind arrives.
And I don't think Washington was listening when you told them that Mercury is in retrograde.

That was interesting on the orange on the legs. I read your commenters and don't know what it is and whether it's really pollen from a certain type of flower but I have never seen a bee with that on its legs up here. I wonder how long the worker bees live.

Those little orange legs are cute, I hope it doesn't make him hurt.

Love those bees Naomi! It's funny how some have the orange legs and other's done. Interesting!

Go to bed until Oct. 16th? Sorry, I just can't do it, but this morning when my husband was calling for me at 3 a.m. it seemed like a good idea! Sometimes I feel like I could go to bed and stay that long and I'd get a good rest!

Of course they are visiting you, it IS your garden! :) I bet they are sure grateful for all that lovely nectar your garden provides anyway and in return you get the pleasure of their company for awhile and we get to share your wonderful photos :)

The orange legs are pollen sacs which conatain pollen from everywhere they have been that day!

Holy bee sting! Mercury is one of my rising, or setting, or something with Mars, planets, as an Aries born at midnight...but darned if I remember what it all means; I'm steering clear of bees, I'll tell ya what!
