cleaning

I haven't been around very much because I am doing some heavy duty cleaning....Papers, and more papers, and old documents that need to be shredded...OY Y OY! (No, I don't have any sweet Raccoons like this in my dumpster.....lol...., just loads of trash....) But, it is a good thing I am doing, though incredibly time consuming....but, it must be done....And I am feeling that need, more and more as I am uncovering more and more "stuff".... So I filled one of these already and have filled almost half of another one....AND, I am shredding a huge amount of stuff....So much stuff that I am having a "professional" shredding company come and shred a humongous amount of old papers....like maybe 12 file boxes full....And it will be fabulous! They have their shredding truck and they do it right out in front of your house..... This is not the company that is going to come to my house, but the one I have contracted has similar trucks to this.....What I like about it is, you can see them shredding everything right there before your eyes! There is so much stuff about identity theft these days, one cannot be too careful! So, as I get ready to contribute more "stuff" to the city dump, I leave you as I wade through the endless paper trail of my life....both interesting and depressing....And as George Carlin has been saying for at least 30 years or more....."You need a place for your stuff!" Here is a link to a few minutes of Carlin talking all about 'your stuff'.....ENJOY!

More To Come......

AS I have to move house, my papers needs sorting too. Loking at the massive pile, I have half a mind not to move!

Got here from Michele! Have a great weekend!

isn't it sad that we have to shred papers? If those people who steal identities worked as had on something legal, they'd be rich people!

lol I've seen that Carlin routine before..so true, so true lol

It's amazing how much "stuff" we accumulate and then all of sudden realize "it's time to go."
Maybe it's just that time of year. Cutting back.

Good Thursday morning to you, Naoimi.
It feels wonderful though when it is all done. The energy in your house becomes transformed, open, fresh, new... It flows where once it was stuck, and there is a happiness in the tidy space.

Amazing... You can even make throwing out the trash sound interesting.... [grin].

I really need to do something similar here.... I *am* giving quite a few old books to Oxfam. I guess it's a start!

I'm in the process of decluttering myself and making the house feel more home-y.

By the way, those raccoons are adorable. I wouldn't mind seeing them in my dumpster (rather than on my back porch, which is where I find them these days!).

Oh purging is soooo wonderful isn't it??. It's like freeing yourself from years of being bogged down by clutter:-). I try once a year to do big purges. It helps the spirit too it seems.
Have a wonderful evening!!

I cleaned out a big pile of clothes and coats and shoes to take to the Clothes Closet yesterday...it is a nice feeling to get things out of the house but it is awfully tiring....I hate trying to sort documents and paperwork so I feel for you there.

I was excited when I open the site. I thought you had racoons!

I hate this new nickname crap...

The old Hippy Dippy Weather man! Yes, I enjoy watching George Carlin. I cleaned out and threw away a bunch of my old stuff about six months ago and I still have a bunch of stuff I need to get rid of. I finally threw away the papers from our first car that we bought 36 years ago. I don't know why I thought it was still important. Well, that "stuff" is all gone now.

I cannot bear the thought of sorting my mountainous papers. I gathered one box of it 3 mos. ago and it still sits by the shredder, ready to be disposed of. Maybe I need a commercial shredder too...LOL

I remember the first time we saw this! We walked around talking about "stuff," for days.

Good luck with the cleaning. Doesn't purging feel good? One of my little tricks to get rid of stuff is to say yes to those charities that come around to get stuff even though I have nothing boxed. Once I've committed to having some "stuff" for them, then I have to go through my "stuff" and get it boxed to go.

Hi Naomi. Hoho...spring cleaning in winter? Thanks for reminding me though. Things have a way of accumulating unnecessarily. I need to do mine before Christmas and the new year 2008. Fancy, 2007 has just a few more days left! Cheerio!

I read your comments at blogger draft. You did well. Good, that comment notification is back.

Somehow, it gets so difficult to go to another platform. One builds up a whole community of blogging friends. Moving this is not so easy. However, I am considering WordPress. They have a import option too. That way my blogger post and comments can get transferred to WordPress. I will do it as a last resort if this persist for long.

Hope they set it right soon.

Imagine all the folks you have inspired to get started on cleaning and getting rid of all the old STUFF to make room for new STUFF. Some STUFF is hard to dispose of until new STUFF makes it necessary...so here's to cleaning up and starting over!
We all need a little jump start, so thanks Naomi!

My husband and I are such frequent cullers of our "stuff" that it is a miracle we have anything left in the house, so I applaud you, Naomi, for simplifying and organizing.

I just watched a Carlin comedy special over Thanksgiving with my husband and parents after the S.P. when to bed, of course. THAT was a mistake. How embarassing to sit in the same room with your spouse and parents while a comedian talks about lewd sex acts! It was hilarious, though. Love him, just not with my family.

I have a long closet where there are a lot of boxes that are mainly paperwork and books. We have decided this is the best home for an extra mattress and frame that have for a houseguest. Now I must unpack, sort, find a new home and/throw out a good majority of the things in that closet. There is another closet that will be easier for taking out this mattress though....I just don't like having to lessen my moving space where I use the closet more frequently. Oh the decision we must make when it comes to house stuff.

How neat to have a company just come and shred papers for you!! We don't have such a thing here that I'm aware of. But who knows!! It is a pain to have to shred so many papers at once. I have a shredder and with a big pile of papers it takes a long time to get them all done, so the company doing it makes lots of sense. I'm sure they have some spectacular shredders!

I have way too much "stuff" myself! I need to declutter my house. Seems I'm always bringing in and never taking out! That's the problem right there!! LOL

Hi Naomi. How did you know that George Carlin's "stuff" monolog is one of my all-time favorite routines. In one fell swoop, he managed to transcend comedy and create a message that resonated with me from a very early age.

Funny how it took a comedia to validate my nascent feelings about rampant consumerism. In many ways, he helped me shape some of the perspectives that form the backbone of my writing career. I owe that man an afternoon tea!

Michele sent me tonight, but I was overdue for a visit - life's been nuts!

I absolutely LOVE Carlin..thanks so much for that clip...got some good laughs...as Carlin always does.

we have rented the big size dumpster twice for the farm and still have more that I'd like to get rid of and might do it again. When you live anywhere for 30 years, it's easy to over-accumulate but with a farm, it's even worse. We have cleared a few areas from outside but still have the attic to sort through... ack!

I don't know about you but I crave space in my home and need it for peace of mind. The longer I stay here, the more things, mail, unneeded files and mounds of paper reproduce themselves quicker than any rabbits!
You're going to feel so free. What a terrific idea, Naomi, for the shredding truck to come!

I recall seeing your library (I think that was the room) where you wanted more space so things wouldn't topple over, etc, and you will be able to see those momentos that bring you happiness, whether that be book titles, photographs, or whatnot.

(Carlin is a genius. He's long been a favorite of Gem's and mine.)Oh, I took your advice (about something else not shredding paper), but it was very hard for me. It's taking all my willpower not to erase it, but I think it was the right step. Thank you very much for your encouragement in this new direction. (I'm still taking deep breaths.)

Naomi, I hope that you carefully consider what you shred and put in the dumpster. Many documents and other items which are no longer of interest or use to you, may be valuable to archivists and persons interested in art and the theatre. An old playbill which mentions someone's long-gone Grandmother, or a catalog of a gallery show a half century ago may be priceless to someone else.

Everybody's artifacts are valuable clues to a world that no longer exists. You were and are part of a very important American art movement--in theatre, in music, in visual arts and photography. You may not be as well known as Liz Taylor, but what you and your contemporaries were doing is essential to understanding the development of our most important forms of cultural expression. I hope that you will donate your papers to organizations that will preserve and make them available to scholars (lol) in 2107!.

Of course, you have the right to "86" anything that is too personal.
