"ladies who lunch" - part 2

So there we were, sitting at the table with our lovely salads before us. Jacquie and Bridget.....next to me on my left was Lee, just out of sight....But more pictures coming of her..... And then, Bridget and Kim was next to her.....And Dianne was next to Kim, and Seemah was on my other side....And those GOREGEOUS Flowers from Terri were in the center of the table.... And there is Seemah, with her salad in front of her....So then, we ate our lunch and just had the best gab fest.....'talking shop', as they say....everyone there having worked in all areas of the biz....."show biz" that is....then, Will cleared the luncheon plates and brought in the Birthday Cake with the candles already lit..... And everyone sang Happy Birthday to me..... This adorable very very rich chocolate cake came from Sweet Lady Jane, here in West Hollywood.....A dense fabulous cake with a touch of coffee flavor.....And Dianne took a picture of me with the cake! And then....I blew those three sweet little candles out! Sweet Lady Jane put these candles on the cake at their darling little shop on Melrose Avenue..... With only three candles it certainly didn't wind me to blow them out! (lol). I have on my "Entourage" T-Shirt....I've Got Gold....named for the ubber agent, Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven....a fun show.....And then Will took a picture of the seven of us ladies....A wonderful keepsake, indeed! Bridget, Dianne, Me, Lee, Jacquie, Kim and Seemah....Dear Seemah has her hair in the style of the play they are doing at Theatre West...which takes place in the late 1930's....normally she looks more stylish....So we ate our cake, had our coffee and tea, and just sat around the table, continuing to laugh talk and laugh..... The Beautiful Lee.....no make-up.... Sweet Jacquie.... Adorable Bridget..... Stunning Kim...... The delightful and oh so pretty, Dianne, whose husband Mark, (Remember?) saved my 'tush' with the DMV.....and,The ever lovely and serene, Seemah....this was the group....Around 4:15pm three of the ladies had to get ready to go to Theatre West for rehearsal....luckily it is only about twelve minutes from me....but before they left, there was a lot of fun with shoes and feet.....! There was a lot of interest in Kim's "walking" shoes, which she had gotten in San Francisco....Bridget actually got down on the floor to look at them very closely...! Then Bridget took off one of her shoes, followed by Seemah and Lee, and then Jacquie and Dianne, too....They were comparing the length of their second toes....lol.
Kim and I were the only ones who kind of didn't get into it....Dianne really got a kick out of the whole thing....And here below, are their feet! Lined up, like "A Chorus Line".....Dianne, Bridget, Lee, and Jacquie....And then here they all are, still lined up, but now we see their faces....well, sort of.....! Then, it was time for the ladies to leave....So Lee, (who stayed a bit longer), and I, walked them out to their cars..... Lee was pointing up the street where Jacquie's car was parked....and we all waved bye bye to her..... And she waved back....As you can see, the late afternoon sun was beginning to go down in the west, (and it was Garbage Day on Friday Morning....thus the cans in the street....) as the last of the ladies waved bye bye to me, too..... Lee actually did come back in and we got to talk for a bit before she too left for Theatre West....It was a lovely sweet warm afternoon with dear old friends...As I said, we have all known each other for so long....I met Lee in 1962....at Theatre West, in it's very first year of existence, and it is still going strong....Amazing......And one more picture of that adorable Birthday Cake to close out this years lovely celebration.... Oh, and if you are wondering why I don't have any pictures of the opening of the presents...well, it's because there weren't any. Well, that's not precisely true....there were a few little things. But I had expressely requested no presents and that their presence was the only 'present' I wanted....And everyone complied, mostly....I'm happy to say.

More To Come......

I agree with the "no presents" rule. These days, the last thing I need is another bibelot to sit around and gather dust! Your party ws a success, the food good, the company scintillating and I wish I was there!

Dear Naomi, I have just read both posts about your wonderful birthday lunch!! The food looks wonderful and I'm sure that cake was quite delicious as well!! I loved all the pictures of your sweet and dear friends that came to visit. Too bad Betty or Annie couldn't be there. I'm glad Betty is doing better now. The flowers Terri sent are lovely!!

I noticed in one picture, is that an old antique cook stove you have there? It looks really pretty!

So glad you had a wonderful time with such lovely friends! Yes, their visit and friendship is the best gift of all. xxx

Who needs presents when you have such good friends?! That is what being rich really is adn you are so lucky to be blessed in that area. Actually, I don't really think it comes down to luck but your own lovely personality!

I love the look of the cake - kind of 'messy' looking but sumptious and decadent too.

I am so glad you had a lovely day. Thanks for sharing it with us :)

Naomi, we saw your crew in the final performance of "Morning's at Seven" yesterday at Theatre West. It was a magnificent production, as you know, in my opinion better than the two Broadway revivals I've seen in 1980 and 2002. How great to see Betty in the part of Cora. She was perfect but I was also blown away by Seemah Wilder and Diane Travis as Ida and Aaronetta. WOW, they were just fantastic. What a great show, and beautifully directed too. I am so glad that I was able to see this before it closed. And then to see folks like Kim and Ann Morgan Guilbert in the audience, I felt like I was spending the afternoon inside your blog! That is one performance I'll never forget, I only wish you could've been there with us.

That was a pretty cake, Naomi. The candle number was well chosen. 76 candles would have taken a long time to blow out.

It's not often one gets to see so many bare toes in one post. LOL Thanks, I think.

That cake was so cute! Very festive!!

Suddenly, I'm hungry for Cobb Salad and chocolate cake for dessert.

Your friends are lovely ladies.

I really like the picture of you blowing out the candles. That's a Hollywood ACTION shot!!

There is no way anyone could look at these photos, read your words and not be happy! All the joy you all have together is so obvious. And I feel quite privileged to be able to feel like I was there too. So do you only do Ladies Who Lunch for birthdays? I noticed a painting on the wall behind the closeup photo of Bridget - the face in the painting has so much character. did you paint it? (Sorry if I'm being nosey - I tend to really look at photos and happened to notice it. I hope it's not too hot down there, up here in the Bay Area we are coming on some HOT temps.

What a wonder afternoon with friends! Your cake looks so sweet! I love birthday cake. In the picture of you blowing out the candles, what is that piece of furniture behind you? Looks like a stove?? I love how your house is filled with light. My house is dark because of the layout and lack of windows in the living area. My dining room has light but I don't spend much time in there.

You had commented on the beach here and they are all mostly wide here in Northwest Florida. We have been having more erosion from the hurricanes and I can tell a difference in the size of the beachfront in some places. When we were little, the sand dunes were very high, but over the years and with the storms, they are washing away. But I feel so blessed to live in this beautiful place.
