Do you love looking at houses just for the fun of it? I always have...especially after I moved to Los Angeles back in the 12th Century....and of course when I was looking for my house 4 centuries ago....but I still would do it if I could get out and about...
Now, with the Internet, there is a whole new way to look at homes if you enjoy this pastime...and there is, for some of us, a certain amount of fun in looking at homes completely out of our reach...
Here is what $6,900,000. will buy you in Bel Air, California.... Take the tour cause it's pretty amazing... And after you do....here's my question.
Is this property worth $6,900,000?

Wow! That is a big price tag for two bedrooms. It obviously has modern furnishings which have clean lines but always seem a bit cold. The wall color is warm... except for that den/media room... I would have visions of "The Shining" and the child murmuring "redrum, redrum". Do love the pool and the view is beautiful. I see that there was hardware for drapes and curtains but none hanging. Wonder if they had them taken down to show the home. Hopefully the privacy is as it appears so you wouldn't need curtains. I would definitely need more bedrooms and a library for books and I would love to have a big room with counters along the walls and a big center counter to have as a sewing/scrapbooking/craft room.

I have a friend in Laurel Canyon whose house is the same size, with equally beautiful outdoor spaces, and it was only $1.6 or so. You're def. paying for BelAir.
ReplyDeleteBut... the materials, all that high luster fine wood, the granite/marble, the fixtures, and large open spaces, all the serene outdoor spaces... it certainly will never likely lose its value on the market. Esp. not in BelAir.
But $7 million. Oy.
In my mind... it's worth $700,000. (ha ha ha... ok, you can wipe the tears from your eyes after laughing so hard). If fairness were an issue, it shouldn't be more than that.

ReplyDeleteHi there :) .. I could buy a house and its own beach for that price over here in Nz! There was a beach house on a cliff (in Nz) It closes up entirely like a box when you go. I will try and find a photo.
ReplyDeleteI love touring homes! Now this is not my style, little to contemporary for me. And the price tag, well, I knew that homes in that area were pricey! Love the pool area though, with all the greens, that is beautiful.

Not sure if it is worth that much, but will say that while it is beautiful, it's not really homey. Very sterile as though it were a hotel.

ReplyDeleteNah! Not my style and too big. I did love the pool and the patio area and all that great stone. I have no need for a media room. I'd much rather have a farm with a modest home on it!! That kitchen looks bigger than our whole house!

It's a real nice house and all, but $6.9 mil?. It has an awfully small pool *giggles*. Goodness, the taxes on that house is something my brain just can't measure *LOL*. But it would not stop me from going and touring it:-). I love looking at houses too. Some houses I would love to go up and knock on the doors to ask for a tour.

ReplyDeleteI DO love looking at real estate - both on line AND in person! This particular piece I think probably IS worth the price NOT because of the house (which, if I HAD money, I would not buy) - but because of the grounds and all the beautiful stone work -- the steps and walls - and the beautiful pond. I wasn't crazy about the pool - I think for that kind of money the pool should be spectacular and a simple rectangle just isn't cuttin' it! The house is beautiful -- but I think OVERLY done? ... I was put off by some of their choices of marble - a little too 'gaudy' for me. I DID like the theater! I thought that was really nice... but again -- I HAVE seen nicer! Also... if I were to pay that much I would NOT want a view of high rise office/hotels/apartment buildings... I would want lake/ocean/bay view. JUST my OPINION! And you ASKED for it! LOL!

ReplyDeleteNah...It is beautiful but too much money. I'd rather have a huge horse farm with a Southern mansion. But the red room with Zebra print was awesome. I don't think I could spend that much money on any house period. Hell if I did I wouldn't be able to afford the taxes on it!!! lol. I'd rather all the kids go to great schools and pay for their educations instead.

ReplyDeleteNaomi... when you work with ceramic paints they have finished tiles that show you what color each color will be once it's fired and glazed. There really is NO way to make it come out looking like it looked before it went in the kiln. (unless you just didn't let them glaze it I guess...) But the paints are very "chalky" because they are MADE to be glazed and fired and so they sort of "melt" a little bit. It's really very WEIRD stuff! HARD to work with! Very hard to get smooth outlines, or smooth blending of colors... it's challenging to be sure! But it's also a lot of fun! I'll take some pictures of some other things I've done and post them soon.

ReplyDeleteOkay... you COULD paint them pastel colors -- yes. Just choose paints that will come out a lighter shade. BUT... everything comes out "shiney" once it's glazed. So it won't have the same "look" as the first plate. I'll try to paint something up in some pastels and show you. Don't know WHAT yet -- but this gives me something to work on!

ReplyDeleteI do look at homes online but generally in either Oregon or Montana as that's where I'm looking for a home right now-- rural... my price range is a bit lower than that... quite a bit!
