Another view of these strange but beautiful flowers...here below....

And on another day when the light was quite different...here is another picture of this now very famous "for loosing weight" plant....

And....I got another couple of pictures of the "katydid"...the next day he was still there on the Pachypodum but had changed leaves and positions... And just one more, below.....take a good look at these back legs...I mean this guy has some amazingly long back legs, doesn't he?
I looked for him again yesterday and today, too...but, he is either gone or hiding really well...But he was there for three days!
More To Come.....
Flowers are admirable. They are really strange looking. It looks like an inverted umbrella. I see that that hopper is still there. Maybe he doesn't want to leave. He has a complete meal over there.
ReplyDeleteWell it's certainly easy to see the Hoodia flower in your painting when you see the real thing! AS soon as I saw the first photo (and before I read the name of it) I recognized them as your painting..
ReplyDeleteThe inhabitants of your garden are lovely and extraordinary--just like you. We are very fortunate to be living in this time and place when technology makes it possible for you to so graciously share your talents with the entire world.
ReplyDeleteMay the upcoming holidays with their focus on contemplation and spirituality bring you new insights and inspiration for your art and your life.
I have never seen anything like your Hoodia flowers around here. They are, amazing, strange however beautiful, like you mentioned... oh, I am sure the little guy will come back, I think he liked you taking pics of him !
ReplyDeleteHello from Norway - The Queer Chef pimped me here!
ReplyDeleteMy wife sais she har red a lot about hoodia plants but has never seen them before. They do look like they are from another planet.
If you like to a whole different world, come and see my wife's post on my blog about the Wild Mountains of Norway:-)
Love the pix! Are those Hoodia flowers where they get that Hoodia extract from? I think it's a weight loss drug but I'm not sure. Love the Katydid as well. I picked up a Praying Mantis off the pavement yesterday and put it on a shrub. Wish I had had a camera with me then. He/She was quite a spectacular looking creature!
ReplyDeleteHoodia flowers do look "other worldly." That's a perfect description. Now, we just need to see some little aliens posing next to them to make the perfect photo!
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are so pretty, it's no wonder you wanted to capture them on canvas.
ReplyDeleteYou *really* should think about a coffee table book of your garden photographs Naomi... They are very good.... You've got talent girl!
ReplyDeleteSo those are hoodia flowers. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures of your hoodia, and it is clear where your artistic muse came from.
ReplyDelete:-)
I'm so jealous of creative people - don't stop creating, Naomi!
Writer, singer, actress, phtographer, philosopher...Reniassance woman. That's our Naomi. I've missed you. This old body is giving out but Thank GD I can still appreciate my blessings. My doc told me to lay off the computer as my bum shoulder has been killing me. However, I don't know what's worse---not communicating with my friends or letting the shoulder swelling subside. I think next time I'll just stop whinning and keep writing!
ReplyDeleteHappy , happy New Year dearest Naomi.
Naomi, it always amazes me when I come here to visit and you have these beauuuutiful flower pictures ... springing from CACTUS! Now, I've always 'known' that there were "flower cactus" ... but I didn't realize there were sO many - or how beautiful their flowers are! You think of cactus and desserts as being dull, boring, drab... But you prove all the time that that just isn't SO! Your yard is just spectacular! I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI love that I can come here and see flowers I never even knew existed. Thanks for another good showing. :)
ReplyDeleteThese flowers do look like they would fit right in on a sci fi movie set. And perhaps the katydid is the star.
ReplyDeleteWhen I cleaned out the flowerbed with my wildflowers, it unearthed a wealth of tiny insects; a large wooly caterpiller rolled up into a ball, little ants scattered and a little white "albino" beatle as well.
The flowers look so soft. Pretty color.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this flower before. Very pretty in it's own unusual way. Thanks for sharing this info Naomi.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the painting of the Hoodia flower too! Very talented lady you are!!
The Hoodia flowers look very 'other worldly' as you describe, Naomi. They look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me here.
Wow! I've never seen anything like those flowers before. They are amazing. Definitely not from this planet.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are amazing, Naomi, just gorgeous! You have a fantastic garden!
ReplyDeleteNaomi, I have never seen Hoodia before, and I thank you for the pics. The resemble moon flowers, but not as large.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look like silk... pale and faded... do the hummingbirds like them? Great pix.
ReplyDelete~S
