Here is a picture of those Hoodia Flowers I mentioned in my last post...'other-worldly' was the phrase I used to describe them...And I said I thought that they looked like they were from another planet. They are most unusual...as is the plant itself.Another view of these strange but beautiful flowers...here below....
Unfortunately they look like they were 'closing up' in this picture, above...And on another day when the light was quite different...here is another picture of this now very famous "for loosing weight" plant....
And one more, below....well, for now, anyway...(lol)
Somewhere I have more pictures of these very amazing flowers, but I haven't scanned them into my computer yet...When I get around to it, I'll post some more of these...but, don't hold your breath!And....I got another couple of pictures of the "katydid"...the next day he was still there on the Pachypodum but had changed leaves and positions...
And just one more, below.....take a good look at these back legs...I mean this guy has some amazingly long back legs, doesn't he?
I looked for him again yesterday and today, too...but, he is either gone or hiding really well...But he was there for three days!

Flowers are admirable. They are really strange looking. It looks like an inverted umbrella. I see that that hopper is still there. Maybe he doesn't want to leave. He has a complete meal over there.
ReplyDeleteWell it's certainly easy to see the Hoodia flower in your painting when you see the real thing! AS soon as I saw the first photo (and before I read the name of it) I recognized them as your painting..

I have never seen anything like your Hoodia flowers around here. They are, amazing, strange however beautiful, like you mentioned... oh, I am sure the little guy will come back, I think he liked you taking pics of him !

Love the pix! Are those Hoodia flowers where they get that Hoodia extract from? I think it's a weight loss drug but I'm not sure. Love the Katydid as well. I picked up a Praying Mantis off the pavement yesterday and put it on a shrub. Wish I had had a camera with me then. He/She was quite a spectacular looking creature!

Writer, singer, actress, phtographer, philosopher...Reniassance woman. That's our Naomi. I've missed you. This old body is giving out but Thank GD I can still appreciate my blessings. My doc told me to lay off the computer as my bum shoulder has been killing me. However, I don't know what's worse---not communicating with my friends or letting the shoulder swelling subside. I think next time I'll just stop whinning and keep writing!

Naomi, it always amazes me when I come here to visit and you have these beauuuutiful flower pictures ... springing from CACTUS! Now, I've always 'known' that there were "flower cactus" ... but I didn't realize there were sO many - or how beautiful their flowers are! You think of cactus and desserts as being dull, boring, drab... But you prove all the time that that just isn't SO! Your yard is just spectacular! I LOVE IT!

ReplyDeleteThese flowers do look like they would fit right in on a sci fi movie set. And perhaps the katydid is the star.
ReplyDeleteWhen I cleaned out the flowerbed with my wildflowers, it unearthed a wealth of tiny insects; a large wooly caterpiller rolled up into a ball, little ants scattered and a little white "albino" beatle as well.
The flowers look so soft. Pretty color.
