I'm so very glad to see you back on your blog, Naomi. I hope your health concerns are behind you. I haven't seen that Budapest Hotel film, but I would certainly like to. It sounds terrific. I saw Boyhood a couple of weeks ago.... loved it! And tomorrow I am going with a friend to see The Imitation Game, which should be interesting as I toured Bletchley Park and saw the Enigma Machine a couple of years ago.
So glad to see you this morning Naomi - I always check to see if you've posted. So sorry to hear about stressful events though! Just post when you feel like it - it's always good to see you.
Upon your recommendation - my next Netflix DVD will be The Grand Budapest Hotel. It truly sounds delightful. I'm glad you get to vote for it.
Great to see you blogging again!!
I started watching "THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL" and just couldn't get into it at all. It all seemed too surreal for me. Maybe I should try it again sometime. My partner liked it.
So good to see you back in action again Naomi. You have been missed and I hope your health issues are better.
I knew you would be watching all the films since you are a voter. I trust your opinion--you have never lead me wrong-- so this on is now on my list. Thank you. Am Looking forward to "more to come."
Be well my friend.
You have been so missed, Naomi. I'm glad to see your post.
I agree with every word you said in this post. I've seen a number of the movies (a couple more to come this week or next) and this is the one I would vote for. In fact, I've probably seen it six times on HBO this month and I think I'll probably buy the DVD -- it has such grace and elegance and charm. It is as much a confection as a Mendl's pastry. As much as I loved the dramas (especially Imitation) and admire the filmwork of Birdman or the commitment of 12 years or the power of Whiplash, this is it for me. I don't think it will win either, but if it doesn't get all the art/costume/make-up and music awards, my heart will be crushed. And Ralph Fiennes was robbed in the award category.
Wow! It was like the clouds parted and the sun came out! I was so happy to see a post from you today. I've been wondering if you were watching the nominated movies and what your picks would be. I haven't seen TGBH, but I'll make sure I do now. Have a great weekend!
this is definitely one I have wanted to see and your post inspired me to make sure i do.
Sorry to read about health issues and although I haven't been around to visit i hope you write more in the future because now I have more time in my life.
hi Naomi! As much as I love your posts, no matter what they are about, I am just glad to "hear from you" !! I haven't been to a movie in quite a while and haven't seen any that are up for Oscars .. like you, health and depression issues but still we plug along. I am glad you are getting to enjoy some of the movies before the oscars. I know how much you enjoy that!!
please take care..xoxoxo
I haven't seen "The Grand Budapest Hotel" but I heard it's really good.
Glad to see you are back :). We saw Grand Budapest Hotel and enjoyed it a lot. It reminded us of early Monty Python. Good cast. I don't see a lot of the films that are up for Oscars.
So good to see you! I loved that movie. The Bill Murray character cracked me up.
I hope you are doing better and glad to hear from you.
I was really happy to see that you had a post. I heard many good things about The Grand Budapest Hotel but lately, with my husband’s health issues, we have not been able to go out to movies. He is having his surgery to remove another cancerous tumor next week, and when he is feeling well again we’ll go to movies because I miss not having seen any for a while. I am happy that you are in California when I see all this terrible cold weather in the north. Take care of yourself and it is always a great pleasure to read your posts.
How wonderful to see you, Naomi. Usually I pop in every day to see if you've posted but I've been a little slack of late...I got waylaid in doing other things other than keeping up with my blogging mates and am now only trying to catch up.
I've not yet seen "Grand Budapest Hotel", but every review I've seen and read have raved about it. I think it will be "my kind of movie."
There are a lot of good movies around at the moment...so I've a few to catch up on.
Take care, Naomi...and know you're always in our thoughts and hearts. :)
My dear Naomi, I am so very glad and happy to see you back on your blog! Sorry I am belated here, I have been with bad internet...
You have been so very missed.
Love read your reviews, they are always wonderful!
I haven't seen Budapest Hotel, but I would like to see it soon.
Today I will watch the Oscar and I will think of you.
I hope your health issues will be much better soon!
Lots of Hugs and much Love!
I love reading your posts, especially during the awards season! Did you watch the Oscars? I had seen the Grand Budapest Hotel and was glad to see it win in several categories but I was vey diappointed that Boyhood didn't receive more accolades. I love going to the movies! I've stopped watching tv but I'm happy to go to the movies...any day of the week.
Sending you wishes of good days and good health.
So very glad to see this post. The Oscars wouldn't be the same without you.
Thank you for bringing this film to our attention. I can see from the photographs of Rafe that he could be a great comic actor.
I'm going to treat myself to this one.
I'm glad to see a new blog post from you (even though I'm a little late!).
I really want to see The Grand Budapest Hotel. Now I've read your post, I really must!
Take care of yourself :)
Hello sweet Naomi! I think of you especially at Academy Award time and look forward to your posts related to it. I tried watching The Grand Budapest Hotel but couldn't get through it. Maybe I didn't give it a long enough trial.
Check out the movie Still Mine! It's a small movie out of Canada, a love story on life and aging that will make you cry, but it has a good ending. I LOVED it.
Hi Naomi! I was just checking in to see if you did a review of any more of the Oscar nominated films, and to see what you thought of Birdman and Boyhood. I loved Boyhood and thought it was a daring and ambitious move to spend 12 years making a movie and allowing your actors to age. I haven't seen Birdman yet. The trailers didn't appeal to me, not sure why. Oh well, I await your return and your reviews. Hope you're doing well.
Hi Naomi, Great to see you are back blogging!
I also enjoyed the Grand Budapest Hotel, which we saw at the Electric Cinema when it first came out.
I liked the crazy capers aspect as well as the stunning cinematography.
Just about every scene could be a super photograph in its own right.
And the largely tongue in cheek acting of the main cast. Whip crack speed - blink and you'd miss something, often quite unpredictable!
Best wishes.
Hello Naomi...so glad to see you post again and know that you are enjoying the movies. Prayers are going up for you to feel better. Wondering if you enjoyed the rainy weather out there recently! hugs from Sandy in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Welcome back to your own blog!! And I agree with you... it is the kind of movie that should have won. Loved it!!
You know I haven't been able to sit and watch a good film in a while but I must tell you again how much I love your recommendations and put everything you suggest in my queue (if/when they're available on Netflix). I will be looking for this movie and thanks for sharing your review.
I'm also hoping today's a good day for you. I was thrilled to see your post because it tells me you're up for writing and you do it so beautifully. Your personality always shines through and I'm glad that you decided to keep going with it. The blogging world would not be the same without you.
Hoping to chat with you again soon, my friend. I have a new job (see my blog post). It is right u my alley. More on that later. Hugs, Ily xo
Naomi: I just sent you an email about Spoon River being staged in Toronto. Make sure my email didn't get lost in your spam file.
Hi Naomi! Welcome back! I saw this movie last week through a streaming service here and it was really funny. I love the movie's feel and in a strange way it somehow reminds me of Amelie.
Best wishes from Bergen :)
Hi Naomi - Lovely to see you around again.
A further note about that Budapest movie. Did you notice that they shot it in all kinds of different formats.
Some of it is in Academy Ratio, some 16:9 and so on.
The different eras and flashbacks all get their own appropriate formats!
Just sayin' hi, Naomi. xoxo
Thinking of you tonight, my fellow night owl. Hoping you are well. oxox
Once again, I am late getting here. Darn Facebook takes all my time now. I hope you are feeling better, Naomi. I miss you.
Happy Easter to you and hope all is well in your world.
Happy Easter, Naomi. Take care and best wishes. :)
Hi Naomi. Just checking in, missing your posts. I hope you had a nice Easter and had friends come over to spend the day with you. I've been thinking about your cactus garden and the little birds that nested in the light at your house one year, or two? I can't remember. I was wondering if you have a nest there again this year and whether you have any new babies? I hope your health isn't causing you any troubles, and that you'll be back posting again soon. I miss you!
Boy, I understand. Hang in there.
Hi Naomi, just checking in again to see how you're doing, and to let you know we'll be moving this summer, but I will keep blogging and posting on these changes. Hope you're still able to view the blogs even if you can't write just yet.
I loved this film too --fanciful and full of humor and heart! Glad you're watching lots of films, and hope each one takes a bit of the edge off the health issues and other stresses! Be well, Naomi!
