shaking and baking

Well, we had a bit of an Earthquake this morning.
It awakened me-----it was 6:20 a.m.
It wasn't the worst one I have ever experienced, I'm happy to say----But it was a rather loud jolting one that certainly scared me awake---and I said out loud to no one...
"Oh, I don't like this....!"

But it didn't last very long at all, Thank God.....
The really scary ones are what they call 'rolling' quakes......it rolls and rumbles and gets worse as it goes on.....And those usually last a little longer than the loud jolting one, like we had today.....
Everything shook pretty good, including the bed, but I had no damage.
A photograph of my brother fell off it's perch and landed against the window in the living room near my piano----and a few hanging paintings went askew.....But, that was it!
A bit of a shock?  Yes, indeed.
And that's how my day began.....
How did your day begin?

More To Come........

Oh my - that's scary! So sorry you had a rude awakening like that. I guess that's why no one in California has pictures hung over their bed.

My day started out with a rainy commute, but was just fine once I got to work.

sure glad you are ok and that it wasn't a bad quake, and glad you were in bed and not standing to fall down!

Good God! My day began with my cat demanding breakfast, which wasn't quite as loud, I'm sure.

Oh! My dear Naomi! That is really very scary! I am so sorry you wake up with an Earthquake this morning.
And I am so very glad you are OK!
That video is scary too.
Many hugs!

Thank goodness you are unharmed and that it wasn't a 'rolling' one - they sound awful.
I have only experienced one in Greece and that was enough. The island where we were staying was littered with houses destroyed by previous quakes. The Greek people would leave the ruin and build a new house next door.

I have had far more normal start-ups than you, I think! So glad it wasn't worse and no major damage. Still, scary!

We had some earthquake tremors here once and, having never felt an earthquake before, I remember talking myself out of believing it and then seeing on the news that it was true. It was small compared to what you get there!

G'day there...I've just popped over from Riot Kitty's blog...I hope you don't mind.

How scary to be woken that way. Touch wood, I've never experience an earthquake or tremor of any description here in Queensland, Australia where I live. I've felt the earth move a few times...but that's another story!

I was the TV crew duck for cover under their desk a few times on our News bulletins...I'd be joining them if I'd been there!

I'm so glad you're OK, Naomi. Earthquakes have long particularly scared me because they can occur with no warning. One minute you're leading your life, and the next, well...

But I guess there's no such thing as a "perfect" place to live. Every spot on the planet has its unique risks. Even Montreal, where I grew up, is in an earthquake zone. My first one - a fairly shallow 6.0 magnitude quake - felt like a train was going right through my house. Incredible. And an incredible reminder who's in charge.

Only good things, my friend...

I heard about that earthquake and they didn't make it sound too bad on the news, but I can't imagine what you must've felt. So happy to hear you're alright. I think it's probably worse than a hurricane as you don't have any warning and anything can happen. What a jolt to your morning, I'm sure. I started my day today with my usual cafe con leche and a smile. It was a good day, my friend. Hoping your day today is better and less stressful. Hugs and much love, Ily xo

Seems the ring of fire has been having a few right now. Nothing here yet but we are warned someday it'll be a big one. I've been in a few where it upsets your stomach afterward. As a girl I was out in the yard when we got one significant enough that it made me go to my knees to feel grounded. I don't like them but who does.

We're a bit behind you on the shaking. We live very close to the Friday night earthquake epicenters.

More damage than in all the other earthquakes combined (I am an LA baby)- it was hard. sharp. But no one hurt and no structural damage.

Cleaned up broken glass until the wee hours of the morning last night. Anything which broke- I can live without.

We'll have to have a couple tradespeople to help us with miscellaneous repairs- but they were all told we are fine waiting a couple days. Other people got hit harder- help them first.

Oh blimey that's scary! I've never experienced an earthquake and I have to say I never want to. I'm glad it wasn't too bad and you are okay and there was no damage to your home!

I felt a quake while we were in Costa Rica about 10 years ago, and I never want to feel one again!

I had a cousin who lived in SOCAL and he told us about a "rolling" quake and described it. How awful for all concerned!!
