Naomi, all I can say is that the best thing about it is the stained glass window - plus I am really glad I don't live next door!!
Absolutely interesting Naomi ! Can't say I ever saw that house before. I imagine it will be difficult to sell to anyone unless they love Michael Angelo!
the video is a good effort to sell the house and at least you get to see a bit of the inside.
Hmm...One Venus and twenty David's...You think he's trying to tell us something?
I love Michaelangelo but this is a bit much. Just my take. The word 'tacky' comes to mind.
One does wonder what the thought process was which leads to so my Davids. I like classic statuary, but too much of something can be overwhelming. Nonetheless, I love the tour.
Cheers.
I discovered your blog today as I was looking through the internet for a photo of Seemah. I stumbled upon your celebration of Seemah's birthday in 2007 and the perfect picture of beautiful Seemah. I posted it to her facebook page with a link to your blog. I'm now perusing your more current writings. Your photos are wonderful and I'm so happy to have found your creative and interesting corner of the web. Sincerely - Valerie Elson
Hi,
I am with you, I much prefer the understated beauty of the stained glass window, to the ostentatious statues, which would probably have looked great, if there were just many less of them and they were tastefully positioned.
I have an uncle who lives in Glendale California, who has been making stained glass windows for the last 50 or so years.
As I have never seen his workshop or pieces close at hand, the nearest I have got to his work, is by looking at the window he made for Canterbury Cathedral, Kent, UK.
Look at that Rolls in the drive, guess it just goes to show you that all that money can't buy good taste. ;-)
However, wouldn't it be hilarious to dress the David's up with hats scarves, boa's, etc. for the various holidays? The place is so tacky you could just embrace the tacky! ;-)
Some people have their taste all in their mouth!
Quite a fascinating place, though. There must have been a good sale price on reproduction Davids at the local Dollar Store a couple of years ago.
I love stained glass windows. Also, I wonder what the Statue of David meant to him that he had so many. It must have spoken to him on some level.
Happy Tuesday to you, Naomi!
This post reminded me instantly of Tyrone Power's old house. It was Tyrone's, right? The one off of Sunset that was painted, what, lime green? It was back in the early 80's. All of the statues on the outside of that house had, um, pubic hair painted on them. It was hideous. Am I remembering this correctly? The 80's were a blur. Ha!
Too many Davids here for my taste, but you did remind me how much fun it was to drive the hills and look at the houses.
Much love,
Stan
Hey Stan....The house you are referring to was NOT Tyrone Powers house. Dear Gorgeous Mr. Power was long gone when that house was built....It was owned by a Sheik! And those statues were really Hideous. (lol) They make 'The Davids' look like Fine Fine Art!
That house and those hideous statues were all torn down and some other house or two now sits on that same property.
Being in the country all I could think of is how useful they would be as scarecrows! I think it would take me a while not to be startled by them. I appreciate that the owner want's to live more simply now and enjoyed the name of his video: 20 Naked Men on my lawn. It's beautiful inside but I was shocked that he said the upkeep on the place was $30,000 a month.
Thanks for this peek!
You do find the unusual Naomi. Goodness. It is odd how they are all a wee bit different. This person was absolutley obsessed with David. I wonder if he has enough now.
I vote for the window also.
Thanks for the heads up.
cool house and great photo's like usual.. i love seeing the different places you find..
I agree with the general consensus that less is more.
Sadly the video isn't authorised in this country. Boo Hoo!
It would be very boring if we all had perfect taste and I was happy to see that David was there in his entirety. So often bits seem to be missing. Thanks for the entertainment:)
Too many for me! All those things would have to go if I were rich enough to buy such a house. I enjoyed the inside tour. My goodness, the man has a twirling wardrobe!! The master bath is almost as big as our whole house!! And $30,000 a month to maintain?? Goodness gracious me!!!
Interesting post as usual dear Naomi!
I daresay the house is not confused with any others on the block.
Naomi, you always surprise us with views of Los Angeles! What an amazing big City with many
attractions, glamour and diversity of architecture.
I also prefer the beauty of the stained glass window.
Unfortunately the video isn't authorised in Brazil...
I hope you have a pleasant day!
A big (((HUG))) to you and dear Sweetie too.
DeAR NAOMI, MY COMMENT ON THE HOUSE OF DAVID. NORWOOD YOUNG IS AGOOD SINGER AND OBVIOUSLY HAS PAID HIS DUES. YOUR COMMENTERS HAVE SAID THE REST. ANYWAY, SOME PEOPLE THINK MY WORK IS REDICULOUS, SO PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES MUSNT THROW BRICKS.
ANYWAY, THANKYOU AND GLEN FOR COMING OVER. IT WAS A NICE VISIT. GUESS WHAT? I WORKED TWELVE HOURS THE NEXT DAY AND FINISHED THE GARAGE. NOW I AN ALL POOPED OUT.

Ps I cant help it those staues are terrible. One might be ok. Thirty six years ago I worked on murder by death and before they destroyed the molds on these original gargoles they made thm out of concrete for me, fifty five bucks each. Im so proud of them, a griffen a unicorn a lion an eagle and a bear. A twenty eight or twenty nine year old Harrison ford who live across the st helped me lift the heavy bear into the wet cement. Icant afford him anymore.
oh, dear lady! what a sight to behold, is it not! but i must say i am not at all opposed to being surrounded by 20 gorgeous men - however, not cloned one from the other - variety and spice and all that! ;)
thanks so much for the "hill views" of those magnificent ones there!
have a fab weekend!
LOL at GypsyWoman about the statues. Funny!
I was going to say they kind of reminded me of the Terra Cotta Soldiers. LOL
To each his own and all that. :)
What a fun post, it made me laugh. Thanks for sharing!
I don't have a lot of David's but I do have a concrete replica of that sculpture and about 3' tall in the master bedroom. I had been debating moving it outside but it's awful nice to see there everyday ;)
I NEVER thought anyone could make LA inviting to me, or even interesting, but YOU have. I thank you for that. The actress in me WANTED to like it.
That is true Los Angeles. It is made of a variety of tastes and it is where you can find such houses. I enjoyed the visit. I looked at the YouTube showing the inside. It certainly would take a special type of person to buy such a house – I don’t think I could stand looking at all those David every day.
How very strange! It almost looks like the Davids are beckoning to come up the drive and visit though. Do you think that is what they were going for? LoL!
Loved George's comment about Harrison Ford. hell yeah he could carry my statues any day. As for these ones well I do love all white and I do love buying more than one of something if I love it and I do love the David BUT it a little Over the top for me. BUT a home is about making it your won and so if he lvoes it I respect that at least. Loved seeing these photos though. More of the same please on your next trip out.
