WRITE A TINY REMEMBRANCE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

I found this on Bhakti the other day and thought it was a lot of fun! I have edited it a tiny bit because it is Christmas....but, don't let that stop you from being as creative as your dear little heart desires....

RULES:
If your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment here on my blog with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL CHRISTMAS MEMORY of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. And, if you feel like it, when you're finished leaving your comment, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) with the memories people create....(isn't this fun?)

Oh my, I can't wait to read what each of you remember....and as always, anything goes, my dears....

My most fond memory of you was our first date. We went to see Rocky - don't you remember? I think we went to McDonalds, but I'm not sure. Your parents didn't like me and your brother wanted to kill me (what ever happen to him?)Anyway, I still have the shirt that you gave me that Christmas. I'm way too big for it now, though, so I let my son use it to polish his gun.

here goes, the sleep deprived fiction of a frazzled mom.

Gosh, i remember a couple Christmases ago when you and i thought it would be fun to dress up as Mrs. Claus and hit the local Karaoke bar. I dont know where you found the matching little red velvet mini skirts but they sure were fun to wear. The fur trimmed bousties added the perfect touch of mrs claus festive (i think the real mrs claus would have froze to death in those little outfits though). I cant believe my husband let me out of the house dressed like that, but then, he always did like you, and let you get away with whatever you wanted. I love going out with you because you are just always so much fun (come by some time, we really need to go out... i dont get out much now that the baby is here)! Even i was shocked, however, when your turn came to sing Karaoke, and you climbed atop a table and belted out "rudolf the red nosed reindeer" and wiggled your hips! I was so embarrased! I hope you were able to find a cab home, and i guess i should apologize for leaving you there, but you seemed to be in "capable hands" as the last time i saw you, you were doing shots and playing hide the candy cane with a sexy off duty fire fighter!

gosh that was fun!

Interesting concept...Ok time to fake it!
My memory of you was when you came over on Christmas eve back when we were 10 years old (man, that was quite a long while back!), after a long trip from the US. I showed you my list of wishes i had for Santa because I was excited to get the Barbie dollhouse i've been looking forward to all year! Instead you made me cry! You told me there was no Santa and that any minute then my dad was gonna leave and get all suited up to be Santa. I didn't believe you and ran into the room and locked myself in. Your mom probably asked you to aplogize because you kept banging on the door to let you in. I remember getting all puffy eyed and looked (she had a pink skirt and striped tank top then -- i remembered!) blankly at you when you came in. You gave me your Malibu Barbie as your peace offering. Can't recall if i ever saw daddy come out in a Santa suit coz i fell asleep somewhere in between eating sweet ham and watching Rudolph reruns on TV.

My fondest Christmas memory of you was when we volunteered at the local homeless shelter. I couldn't believe when you pulled out this huge bag filled with hand knitted sweaters...must have been 50...by you! You said you worked on them all year long, everyone was crying. I know I was.

Then there was that mysterious surprise check at the end. $25,000! Everyone was in shock and I think Brother Daniel was floored. However, that arrived it was good to see new windows at the shelter and extra beds for those in need. Hugs!

Naomi, I had to dig deep, but I vaguely remember the time we crashed the party at Mike Nichols house (when he was married to Elaine May) and you played the piano while I lay atop it and crooned White Christmas with Dean Martin (Bing was in London then). I had on the red velvet dress with the split up to there, and you wore the slinky black number with the lacy decolletage. That night you broke the heel of your stillettos in the grating on 5th Avenue, and I gave a dollar to the poor drunk in the gutter, just before boarding our limo on the way to the Rainbow Room with Mel Torme and.....oh, I can't remember the other guy's name.....some wannabe, I guess. I think his name was Elvis, or Melvis...something like that. Great fun, Naomi! Remember?

I have fond memories of the time I saw you in the play "Silent Night." I met you backstage and later you took me downtown where I met several movie stars and got autographs. We ate Chinese food and then went around town giving money to homeless people. Do you remember how big that tree was in the town center?

naomi, i'm pretty sure you'll remember this. we were roommates then. we were both studying to become actors under stella adler and we were taking classes with a punk named robert de niro. he was kinda cool when we got to know him later on. he invited us to go skiing with him and his buddies in aspen. jumping at the chance to go on a trip for free, we went. boy, were we glad we did! the holiday spent there was one hook-up fest to another. we met all kinds of industry people. that's where we finally met our agent and the rest, as the say, is history. who'd ever thought that several years after that meeting with de niro, we'd both become very successful in films? what did your last movie rake in again? the one that topped the box office last summer? :)

Naomi, my favorite Christmas memory is that party we attended at Simone Signoret’s suite at the Bel Air Hotel in the early 60s, remember? I think Yves was here shooting a movie but he wasn’t there that night for some reason—I think the rumor was that he and Marilyn had sailed to Catalina that afternoon on Peter Lawford’s boat. Anyway, you brought the house down when you sang “Taking a Chance on Love.” Remember how Frank was so impressed he joined you on the last verse:

Now I prove again
That I can make life move again
I’m in the groove again
Takin' a chance on love.

Fantastic. If only Carole Cook hadn’t gotten into that hideous fight with Liz Taylor at the end of the song. Remember how Paloma Picasso tried to intervene and was practically pummeled to death? Roddy McDowell had to pry both of those dames off of poor Paloma which had Judy and Liza in stitches but, if I remember correctly, Simone was not amused.

Of course my favorite moment that evening was getting to sing “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with Betty Garrett and Frank Loesser accompanying us on the piano. Betty is such a generous performer she let me have the best lines:

I’ve got to go home
(Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there)
Say, lend me your comb
(It's up to your knees out there)
You've really been grand
(Your eyes are like starlight now)
But don't you see
(How can you do this thing to me?)
There's bound to be talk tomorrow
(Think of my lifelong sorrow)
At least there will be plenty implied
(If you caught pneumonia and died)
I really can't stay
(Get over that old out)
Ahh, but it's cold outside!

I miss those parties! Remember how Robert Mitchum was your Secret Santa and chased you all the way to the pool until Doris Day told him to buzz off? Simone and Liz then lit the menorah while Kirk Douglas sang the blessing. I still have that great photo of you, Tony Curtis, and Janet Leigh passing out the latkes. What a great night.

Do you remember the time that we were in London together and the Queen heard you were in town and sent for us to have tea with her? That was quite a surprise. She is such a dear friend of yours and of course when we got back to the states we found out that all the papers had our pictures on it with all the details of our tea with the Queen. That was such a wonderful trip...we must do it again! ;)

Do you remember that Christmas where we bought that toy, and couldn't figure out hwo to put it together?

The instructions were in Portuguese, so you popped open a bottle of wine and said you'd be able to figure it out anyway?

And you did?

That would have been the best Christmas ever except I never got to play with the toy, it was just for you.

Naomi, do you remember that Christmas that you came to the family farm for a visit? We had quite a bit of snow and we made snowmen and dressed them up with all those frilly clothes! Then we went back inside and had hot cocoa with marshmallows in it by the fire. That night we sat up late and talked and giggled until all hours! The next day we went horseback riding. You wanted to ride the white horse named "Trouble" and you ended up getting in trouble after he slipped in the snow and fell!! Thankfully you were both okay and you got back on and we continued the ride. Christmas morning we had a huge country breakfast and then we opened gifts. We spent the rest of that day with my family and just relaxing by the fire and talking. We had such a fun time and it's one of my favorite memories of Christmas!

Hay! Yeah, long time no see, huh? I will never forget the time you were babysitting me for Mama. You left the door to my cage open, and I had so much fun with your holiday decorations! You should have seen the look on your face when I chomped into the Christmas lights at the base of the tree. That image is still "burned" into my mind! Hrmph.

I remember the time when you & I streaked at the Dodger's game in 1988. The year they won the World Series, you remember, right?
Because of my speediness & ability to run short spurts, I managed to get away before getting caught.
But you got caught! And while I'm sure your readers don't know this, you were on the 11 o'clock Eyewitness News. They showed your mug shot & you nearly died!
By the way, how much community service did you have to do?

Oh my! Do you remember the time you and I went sledding and you didn't stop in time and ended up in the river, you were ok just a little soaked, and that would have been funny enough on it's own, but then you remembered that someone once told you, that if you got all wet and frozen, the best way to warm yourself up was to rub yourself all over with snow on your bare skin. Such a shame that the field we were in was right next to the local church and a service was just letting out ;)

We went world traveling together, dearie, don't you remember? Checked out all the hotties in Paris, wound up getting shipwrecked in Hawai'i for a week (which we didn't mind at all), and of course went sliding down all those snowy hills with the polar bears at the North Pole. OH YEAH I almost forgot - Santa took us for a ride in the sleigh, with Rudolph leading the way!

Do you remember that time we went from house to house, Christmas party to Christmas party of people we didn't even know? We carried mistletoe with us.
We cornered all the men and laid some sugar on them big time! Some of the women got mad, and I had to slug a few of them. You got drunk and started kissing the ladies too; apparently, you could no longer tell the difference. We ended the night by swimming in a fountain and adding bubble bath to it. We took off as soon as we heard sirens coming out way. What a holiday night that was!!!

I remember the Christmas you took pity on me and sat up to the wee hours sipping diet hot chocolate with candy canes melting down in them as we tried to decipher all those assembly directions. The sugar high and sleep deprivation got to us and we started cracking jokes about the sort of people that write the so called "easy to follow" outlines.

To this day I'm wondering how safe that bicycle is considering all the extra parts we had.

Now now, I must really be old. Because my favorite memory is the first or second Christmas you were in LA. Long before our friends were famous, or rich. When the best 10 of us could do was throw a potluck and make up pretend presents. Gosh we were lucky then that you had that little job because you made enough to keep the heat on, and to buy the ham for Christmas dinner. We were all so far from home and family and way too damn broke to travel. So we spent the day together and toasted the evening with three $1 bottles of rot gut, and the best gift any of us got was knowing that our big break was coming. Somewhere out there. And for some of us it came, and for some it didn't, and now we are older (God forbid we ever be "old"), a few of us are gone, a few of us hit the big time, but more of us are just average Joes. But all of us remember that Christmas!

Merry Christmas, may this one be as good as that first one we spent together!

Do you remember that Christmas Eve when your doorbell rang?
You weren't expecting anyone, so you were in your pyjamas, music on the stereo, drinking wine and decorating your tree with Sweetie's help.
When you opened your door and saw a stranger you looked nervous, but I smiled and said 'It's me - CQ'.

We had such fun that Christmas, visiting all your friends, drinking, eating and doing the 'Hollywood' thing....

You don't remember??
Maybe I'm thinking of next year! :-)
