I have become obsessed with the beauty of this Succulent....It is most unusual, in every way.
And though it certainly is fantastic when you see the whole plant....It is even more fantastic when you isolate---in close-up----the different parts of this Succulent....
The colors alone are just stunning......But the different shapes that this plant encompasses just boggling the mind. Wherever you look...there is great great beauty....And just moving the camera slightly, allows for some slight differences that make you go..."Ahhhhhh...!"
I have a particular liking for the look of one color moving in to another color in an imperceptible way.....It pleases something in my psyche and I feel it in a visceral way.....
And I love seeing the edges of these pads with that beautiful dark red-to-shocking-pink-to-green look....I also love the contrast there of the dark red edge up against the green....Once again, the beauty of nature just takes my breath away.
The magical shapes with the variations in color.....I have no words.
I repeat myself. Stunning. Amazing. Breath-taking.
I probably have taken 500 pictures of this plant....maybe more. It is endlessly fascinating to me....I am never bored with what I see.

ReplyDeleteI've read and re-read your comment to me over three times now because I have always found you very wise as well as kind.
While my friend and my cousin would agree with your terminology, I think they both would agree about the heartache they brought to others through the course of their disease, and also that their behavior was a self-destructive choice borne of pain that they later changed.
I love them both dearly, and would never have been able nor willing to enable them, and feel no regret for that.
The tv show is 90% about enablers and self-pity - glorifies something that I believe strongly should not be portrayed like that.
Anyone who has fought the demon and emerged and stayed sober deserves much empathy, compassion and understanding.
The ones that don't... well, having seen the incessant havoc they wreak in others' lives with their addiction erodes my natural tendency to want to be protective or kinder.
There are two sides to it, I think... That of the victim of the alcoholic, and that of the alcoholic.
I hate Tammie for what she did to Mike and her two daughters for many years until she finally drank herself to death on her latest boyfriend's floor - leaving him to come home from an A.A. metting and find her dead... That's where this anger stems from.

I agree with you, Naomi! These succulents are certainly beautiful plants. Did you know that in my garden the succulents, cactus and agavea attenuata are plants that the angry ants don't attack?

These pictures really should be matted and framed and hung in a gallery so everyone can see how beautiful they are! The soft colours and forms remind me of an underwater scene, on a coral reef somewhere.

You do have a kind of O'Keeffe thing going on! It is amazing how many different looks you can achieve from the slightest angle adjustment. They are beautiful and I can see why you're hooked!
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether you can grow succulents outside in the UK Naomi - perhaps in very sheltered southern places. My parents moved to south west (and very warm) France in 2003 ~ their garden is a riot of lavendar, sage, rosemarym olive trees, figs and succulents (around the patio) - blissful! Thanks for visiting ~ it's a shame your answers didn't post on QotD :o(
